I made one change that seems to have fixed problem for me (or at least made it occur much less frequently). In the CompizConfig Settings Manager, I set the value for Desktop Wall -- Viewport Switching -- Wall Sliding Duration to 0. It was previously set at 0.3. After that change, I have not
