[Bug 131292] Re: dell dimension 9200 - reboot doesn't work
Yes, reboot=b helps. Thanks. BTW: doing it the way that Mark Favas pointed out is not the optimal solution - because it doesn't survive running the update-grub script. I've found that the more bulletproof way would be to add it in the commented out (!) kopt line, and run update-grub. Like this: # kopt=root=UUID=4efbf7b3-1188-4769-8e69-e9e131ac1936 ro reboot=b Yes, it's a commented out line and in spite of that, it seems to be used by update-grub for generating the proper entries. Luckily it's all well documented in the stock menu.lst. Any plans for a permanent fix (I mean, one that makes reboot work properly out-of-the-box, without messing with config files), in feisty or gutsy? -- dell dimension 9200 - reboot doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131292 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Seems that the bug was caused by using (apparently incompatible) MS Tahoma font copied to the font directory by me. Deleting the font has fixed the problem completely. Although I doubt anyone would try using Tahoma in Linux, the problem may potentially appear with other broken fonts, so maybe it's worth investigating, maybe not. -- thunderbird 2.0.0.6 crashes in libgklayout.so https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/135386 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Another update, after further testing/several reboots: - halt works, both with HD install and liveCD (I was wrong in my initial description!) - reboot doesn't work, neither with HD nor liveCD of Feisty; it hangs the machine to the point of having to hold the power button pressed for 10 seconds - no key combination (like changing consoles) seems to work, probably because the system is fully shut down (awaiting the system reset which for some reason doesn't happen) - I haven't found any interesting log entries, perhaps because all filesystems are already unmounted when the system hangs I have yet to test it with 7.10. -- dell dimension 9200 - shutdown doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131292 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 114720] Re: qjackctl main window doesn't show on fiesty
Happens here too. I think the author's intention was to make the window topmost and a tool window at the same time - but he forgot about the topmost thing so the window lurks near the bottom of Z-order on a crowded desktop. The only way to get to it is minimizing other windows one by one. Confusing at first, even more to novice users I guess. Unchecking Keep child windows always on top and restarting eliminates (or sidesteps) the problem. I don't know Ubuntu policies about those minor bugs - is there any hope it will be fixed as an update to Feisty (at least by unchecking keep on top by default)? -- qjackctl main window doesn't show on fiesty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/114720 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 131292] dell dimension 9200 - shutdown doesn't work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-lowlatency halt or restart won't work - the machine freezes after shutting the system down (the black progress bar goes to the end), the only way to get it to boot is holding down the power button for 10 seconds (the Dell case doesn't seem to have a proper Reset button). Note that, although closed source nvidia driver is loaded, the same thing also happens without the driver (it doesn't seem to be a bug in the closed source module). [Bug 99152] bcm43xx driver still not working well on Lenovo 3000 N100
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kernel-image-2.6.20-13-generic-di The firmware extracted from Windows drivers is version 4 and the driver says it doesn't support it (numerous messages in dmesg). The firmware downloaded from the unofficial site http://debian.cafuego.net/dists /feisty-cafuego/bcm43xx/ doesn't work particularly well, it deadlocks on ping -f to the nearest wireless gateway, with no chance to rmmod it. The same laptop works great with ndiswrapper, so it's definitely a question of lack of support for relevant firmware and/or a bug in the driver. ** Affects: linux-source-2.6.20 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- bcm43xx driver still not working well on Lenovo 3000 N100 https://launchpad.net/bugs/99152 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
