[Bug 1536915] Re: Continue button grayed out in 2 steps of install

2016-04-25 Thread kingu
Exclusive to a Thinkpad x200 machine. Same results using dd and unetbootin to
load the image onto a USB-drive.
Same USB-drive works on an Asus eee 1215n.
Ubuntu also affected. Drops straight to desktop on both, no choice between
install and run.

[Bug 296867] Re: empathy needs to support OTR encryption

2014-05-04 Thread kingu
Just because the conversation is encrypted end to end doesnt mean you
cant log locally. Dont know how empathy does this, but in pidgin it can
be set up easily. There is even an option to omiss the conversations
that are encrypted.

I dont really like that distinction, because it implies all encrypted
communication is sensitive. Rather its best to moreso always encrypt so
that you dont draw attention to something by said connection.

[Bug 543366] Re: vuze wont start

2010-03-28 Thread kingu
Azureus/vuze looks for the symbolic link swt.jar in /usr/share/java which
should point to the current version in that directory.
At present this is swt-gtk-3.5.1.jar, but the link is missing, so it isn't
found. Thus, it refuses to start.
Navigate to the directory cd /usr/share/java and create the link sudo ln -s
swt-gtk-3.5.1.jar swt.jar

Rather than kill debconf frontend i rebooted, and all was well.

I'm sure i didn't have any terminals open, but i think i closed one earlier as
it was downloading something.

dpkg(27308) is the parent process, which lead me to that conclusion.

dpkg--configure -a says i have to reconfigure libpam-modules, but then
i get:

debconf: DbDriver config: /var/cache/debconf/config.dat is locked by
another process: Resource temporarily unavailable making it full
circle.

So can I just start dpkg again?

2009-08-15 Thread kingu
Take suggestions and put up a vote in the forums.

2009/8/15 José Tomás Atria jtat...@gmail.com

I just wanted to chip in with a +1 to Matthew. I was (am?) one of the
more vocal critics of the name decision, and stated my position in
very strong terms above (something i later apologised for), but I too
think that the whole point of the bug report was to submit the issue
to the sanction of the community council. Since the CC discussed it
and reached a solution, even one that i personally don't agree with, i
think the bug report should be closed.

You can't win 'em all, and i think that community is very much about
accepting things even when they don't go your way.

 just my two cents...

On Sat, Aug 15, 2009 at 11:15 AM, Paul Sladenubu...@paul.sladen.org
 wrote:

 Status in Ubunet: Incomplete
 Status in Ubuntu: Confirmed

 Bug description:
The usage of the word Ubuntu in the context of Ubuntu One is inconsistent
with the Trademark Policy outlined at
 http://www.ubuntu.com/aboutus/trademarkpolicy

Specifically of note are the following:

The objective of the Ubuntu trademark policy is to encourage widespread
use of the Ubuntu trademarks by the Ubuntu community while controlling that
use in order to avoid confusion on the part of Ubuntu users and the general
public, to maintain the value of the image and reputation of the trademarks
and to protect them from inappropriate or unauthorised use.
The danger of confusion among users and the general public about whether
this new service is part of or associated with Ubuntu is extremely high.

there is no commercial intent behind the use
The service has clear and stated commercial intent.

what you are referring to is in fact Ubuntu. If someone is confused into
thinking that what isn't Ubuntu is in fact Ubuntu, you are probably doing
 something wrong
The service is not Ubuntu and has no association with Ubuntu as a product
or community. It merely runs on and works with Ubuntu, on equal footing
with other applications like Apache, Firefox, or an Ubuntu user's blog.

there is no suggestion (through words or appearance) that your project is
approved, sponsored, or affiliated with Ubuntu or its related projects
unless it actually has been approved by and is accountable to the Ubuntu
 Community Council
I am not aware of any such approval or even discussion by the Community
 Council at this time.

If you are producing new software which is intended for use with or on
Ubuntu, you may use the Trademark in a way which indicates the intent of
your product. For example, if you are developing a system management tool
for Ubuntu, acceptable project titles would be System Management for
Ubuntu or Ubuntu Based Systems Management. We would strongly discourage,
and likely would consider to be problematic, a name such as UbuntuMan,
Ubuntu Management, ManBuntu, etc. Furthermore, you may not use the
Trademarks in a way which implies an endorsement where that doesn't exist,
or which attempts to unfairly or confusingly capitalise on the goodwill or
 brand of the project.
The service clearly falls under the latter list of examples similar to
UbuntuMan, and as such is named unacceptably. Furthermore it appears to be
attempting to capitalize on the brand, which is similarly explicitly
 prohibited.

 Proposed fix:
Rename the service to not include the words UBUNTU, KUBUNTU, EDUBUNTU, and
XUBUNTU nor any mark ending with the letters UBUNTU or BUNTU, or in an
acceptably non-ambiguous manner such as Cloud Storage Solution for Ubuntu.

[Bug 301189] Re: Vuze's updater will not upgrade to 4.0.0.4

2008-11-29 Thread kingu
Whats wrong with just updating the package to 4.0.0.4 from package
management? It seems to work quite well. I removed the 3.0.0.1 package
and manually installed the 4.0.0.4 from azureus.

The one at http://www.getdeb.net/comment/1566 seems to be incompatible
according to the comments.

This package is not correct
 By dalonso, 2008-11-06 22:26:50
This package should not be in the Intrepid category. The package depends on
gtk-swt-3.2, that is incompatible with xulrunner-1.9, the version of gecko that
comes with Intrepid.

You should rebuild it with gtk-swt-3.4, otherwise the Browser is not
working. It's true that it works as long as downloading of torrents, but
without the browser it is like using transmission.

So, please, please, rebuild with the correct dependencies so I can use
this great program!!!

I cant comment on this, but 4.0.0.4 seems to work fine using the classic
UI, it even retained my settings and more importantly stopped the update
loop.

I dont know about ubuntu policy, but why is there an ancient version in the
repos? Since the package has been broken in the past in ubuntu i suggest stop
pulling hacks out to fix it and just stick with the regular stable releases.
Either that or disable the auto-update check in vuze. There seems to be a lack
of communication between the MOTU and the Vuze team. Hope it can be fixed soon
:)

[Bug 105420] Re: both iwlwifi and ipw3945 are unable to turn off rf_kill

2008-08-30 Thread kingu
I got it to work on a fresh ubuntu 8.04 install, then when i updated the kernel
it was gone again.
Going back to the old didnt do the trick, nor did a reinstall.
The solution lies in the Bios version, because the killswitch button does not
work.
This was confirmed by trying another card known to work.

Solution:
I was able to get it to work with the latest firmware (B0G)
Its available from fujitsu-siemens
http://support.fujitsu-siemens.com/Download/ShowDescription.asp?SoftwareGUID=7F5DC06C-7C41-453C-A791-2D9039BB73FAOSID=665F4A20-6E31-43C3-82C2-D98CE773007CStatus=TrueComponent=Flash%20Bios%20for%20AMILO%20Pro%20V3505
Dont worry about the XP category selection, BIOS is the same regardles of OS.
Burn .ISO to disk and boot. Press F12 to select CD during post.
Write FLASH when prompted.
