[Bug 480712] Re: 9.04 kernels on Intel D101GGC locks for 1-15 min, after unlock the date differs from hwclock
1) The bug is reproducible on Karmic 2.6.31-15-generic 2) Have set various video memory in BIOS: 32, 64, 128, 256. Have combined various DDR400 RAM modules: 1024Transcend+512Samsung=1535 Single, 512Samsung+512Samsungetc=1024 Dual Channel. The bug is always reproducible (Memtest86 shows no errors). 3) Maybe caused by a clock generator of PIIX4? www.lm-sensors.org/wiki/FAQ/Chapter3#SMBustransactionsonmyPIIX4simplydontworktimeoutshappen.Why Some chips which mainboard makers connect to the SMBus are not SMBus devices. An example is the 91xx clock generator chips. When read, these devices can lock up the SMBus until the next hard reboot. This is because they have a similar serial interface (like the I2C), but don't conform to Intel's SMBus standard. Why did they connect these devices to the SMBus if they aren't compatible? Good question! :') Actually, these devices may support being written to, but lock things up when they are read -- 9.04 kernels on Intel D101GGC locks for 1-15 min, after unlock the date differs from hwclock https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/480712 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

For the last 10 days or so i have been using it and without any hang ups. I still get those overheating error messages, system has never hanged since then. 2.6.18-6-686 #1 SMP Fri Dec 12 16:48:28 UTC 2008 I have been using it continuously. I don't know exactly what was the problem, and what that netinst cd didn't or did install, But i am pretty much happy with the way it is working now -- 9.04 kernels on Intel D101GGC locks for 1-15 min, after unlock the date differs from hwclock https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/480712 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

1) The D101GGC motherboard has a very hot (for fingers) radiator in the center. Maybe lockups correlate with the chip temperature?
