I'm reopening this bug because there are a couple of problems with the restricted ati driver. Sometimes the mouse cursor is messed up, firefox 3 is slow when i'm scrolling, some video games are lagging. I checked the description of the ati driver in synaptic, it says only Ati Mobility FireGL V5000 is supported but not the V5200. It still might be a problem, that Ubuntu recognizes the card as X1600. The very same thing is happening to me in Hardy. I clicked on the clock applet and gnome-panel is freezed now. I just made a discovery. When I boot from Hardy Alpha 5 live cd using normal mode I get that huge resolution. When i try to reboot it freezes at the end. When i boot using safe graphic mode I get a decent desktop and it won't freeze when I reboot. It just ejects the cd and turns off when I press enter. I just installed the new alsa driver 1.0.16 RC2 and the sound works! \o/ If Hardy will have the new version then it's gonna be OK. There is a problem though: my laptop has only one speaker, it's on the left side. If I mute the left channel and max out the right one there's only noise. If you're using headphones it's terrible cuz you hear only noise from the right side.. Seems like this bug has been fixed because Hardy Alpha 3 starts with no problem. The resolution is almost correct, the screen displays the proper 1280x800 resolution but real resolution is somewhat bigger because some parts of the desktop doesn't fit in. The resolution cannot be changed during the live session. After installing the latest OSS driver i have sound from both the speaker and the headphone, but if I plug in a headphone it doesn't mute the speaker. The other problem is that my logitech USB speakers stopped working. I couldn't switch between the inner speaker and the USB speakers anymore. I tried it with another user, bug still occurs. I created a 10 seconds video to demonstrate it, maybe my explanation is just not good enough. I have Hungarian ubuntu, but i think it's easy to follow what I'm doing. First I click on Places-home which takes me to /home/krychek/file:/home, then i delete /home/krychek/file: , then I click on Places-home again and it takes me to /home . Sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm using gutsy. I deleted the /home/username/file: directory and everything is fine now. I don't know what created that file: directory, I didn't. Then I recreated the /home/username/file:/home directory and clicking on Places-home drives me back to /home/username/file:/home. So it's broken again. Ok, I've found the .gtk-bookmarks, I'm attaching it. I don't have /home/username/file:/home listed in .gtk-bookmarks. I have file:///home listed in it. Did you try to bookmark your /home directory (not /home/username) and then create /home/username/file:/home and then click on places-home?
