[Bug 1785060] Re: Evince cannot open cbr-files based on rar v5

2020-09-22 Thread linuxcub
"Expired" is a bad change! With Ubuntu 18.04 I could read any CBR file with
Evince. Just installed Ubuntu 20.04 and Evince cannot do it any more!
I have a workaroud, but is this necessary to install Kubuntu's okular? These
are quite some packages!
Does "expired" mean, I will never be able to read some CBR files with evince?

Thanks, siggi2

viz.,

sudo apt update

Reboot, login into 'Gnome on xorg', Wacom stylus and tablet now
recognized

Log out, login on 'Ubuntu', now Ubuntu does it too :)

Usually I use my Wacom Intuos CTH-450/K with Gimp. Now I tested it with Krita.
Seems that all functions of the board are supported, including varying line
width with varying stylus pressure. But only after I installed gnome, see above
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1753525/comments/2
This will still give the developers something to work till April.

No, I don't! My Wacom looks like this
http://101.wacom.com/UserHelp/en/TOC/CTL-4100wl.html

"About Wacom Intuos"

" >> Assign Settings in Wacom Tablet Properties" shows the stylus with
its two buttons

The tablet has 4 buttons, at each top corner, two on the left, two on
the right. If I press one of teh bottons, a menu appears, like "Show
onscreen help, assign keystroke, etc."

I'll attach screenshots from my Ubuntu with the next post.

[Bug 1575887] Re: Intuos Art / Intuos Draw 2015 isn't detected by the wacom properties window

2018-03-05 Thread linuxcub
Jason,

here is the link: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
control-center/+bug/1753525

Hopefully some other uses with Wacom tablets try Bionic. I doubt it, it
is a development branch.

The strange thing with Bionic is, the gnome-control-center was already
installed in my version (daily build plus all updates), but this did not
help as it did with my Ubuntu 16.04.

Please note that not only the stylus is not recognized but also the 4
buttons could not be programmed, like they could be programmed in my
gnome-modified Ubuntu 16.04.

As an aside, my Debian - Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) 64-bit Gnome
3.22.2 - does these things out-of-the-box, no trickery needed.

Thanks,

Siggi

"Package ubuntu-themes not installed and no hook available, ignoring
Gtk-Message: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged."

I do not understand it :-(

If I follow this link, I get to https://launchpad.net/~smusnmr/+oauth-
tokens and read

"

you revoke an authorization, that application will not be allowed to do
anything in Launchpad on your behalf.

Does it mean I should authorize again and leave the authorization on
indefinetly? Should I leave my notebook on and not logout out of launchpad?

[Bug 1743710] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.04: since 2018 all dropdown menus black and unreadable

2018-01-17 Thread linuxcub
Public bug reported:

Since 23018 all dropdown menus in my Ubuntu 16.04 LTS have a black background
and the text, i.e., file-save-as options are unreadable. After a fresh install
the menus are ok, but after the first necessary updates, same problem! The
menus if firefox and thunderbird are readable, but e.g., Libreoffice writer,
Gimp you name it, are not. I have described this in detail in
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2382505=13730458#post13730458
and also my workaround to solve it,
changing the file /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
But I am afraid, with the next bigger Ubuntu update the error will be back
again?

I see that in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/964705
the "Cancel" workaround was used already. Sorry.

However I should add, that with my Ubuntu 16.04.1 I had also to add a new file
/lib/udev/rules.d/70-usb-modeswitch.rules
to get networking with my Aldi/Medion Mobile Huawei E173:

# own udev rules for Aldi/Medion Huawei E173
ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="12d1",
ATTRS{idProduct}=="1446", RUN+="/usr/sbin/usb_modeswitch -v 12d1 -p 1446 -M
'55534243123456780011062001'"
ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="12d1",
ATTRS{idProduct}=="1436", RUN+="/bin/bash -c 'modprobe option && echo 12d1 1436
> /sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/option1/new_id'"

(Modified from https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/USB_ModeSwitch/). Probably
nother 16.04 bug.

[Bug 1650792] [NEW] Ubuntu 14.04.1 System policy prevents modification of network settings for all users

2016-12-17 Thread linuxcub
Public bug reported:

Same bug as described for Ubuntu 15.04 (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/964705)
is still in my Ubuntu 16.04.1! My workaround is simple but strange:

After switching on my notebook, booting into Ubuntu 16.04.1, and being
at the login screen, before having logged into any user, the SIM-PIN
menu appears. I key in the SIM-PIN, hit the button, then I am
asked again for the SIM-PIN, this time with the error message "PolicyKit
authorization failed: challenge needed for
org.freedesktop.ModemManager1.Device.Control". My workaround:

Hit the button

After that, I am able to log in and connect with my Aldi/Medion Huawei
E173 USB stick to the network, if I am an AdminUser. For a user without
Admin-rights it is a little bit more complicated after having logged in:
he has to unlock the SIM pin again, then he is asked for the Admin
passwort because necessary administrative rights. He has to hit
twice, but then he can connect to the network without any knowledge of
the Admin-paswort. Strange!

Will Ubuntu 16.04 sometime come to the point of enabling mobile
networking as simple as it was with Ubuntu 14.04?

Thank you,

siggi2

2012-11-03 Thread linuxcub
@Robert Ancell, @Mark Shuttleworth:

you wrote ...you can use another greeter...

Where do I find a save one?

In Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS i386 gnome classic (no effects), I changed
'/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf' from
'greeter-session=unity-greeter' to
'greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter', and wow, after reboot my system crushed,
only low resolution and no way to fix anything, because my mouse was gone!

I had to chroot from a Live CD into my system and restore the previous
lightdm.conf.

So, please, where do I find a list of greeters, and how do I install
them in a save way?

Thanks,

linuxcub

Re: [Bug 283410] Re: no IP assignment with ndiswrapper for AVM fwlanusb Stick, yet older kernels work fantastic

2008-10-25 Thread linuxcub
Hi Bryce,

I don't know whether this helps, but I just see that kernel 2.6.24-21
behaves as badly with WLAN as does kernel 2.6.24-19, in Hardy.

Thanks,

Siggi

Hi smusnmr,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log
file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to
your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

[Bug 283410] Re: no IP assignment with ndiswrapper for AVM fwlanusb Stick, yet older kernels work fantastic

2008-10-22 Thread linuxcub
Just booted Ubuntu Intrepid beta LiveCD (32 bit) and...
...AVM Fritz!Stick WLAN USB (2005)/Ndiswrapper/wpa_supplicant yielded a
terrific, WPA2 encrypted, connection to the internet!

Hopefully a stable version of Intrepid will come soon!

Very happy,

I've got no internet connection without the patch, too. To get the
patch, I need an internet connection!!! Biiig problem!!!

Will this bug be fixed in kernel 2.6.27-7?

[Bug 283410] [NEW] no IP assignment with ndiswrapper for AVM fwlanusb Stick, yet older kernels work fantastic

2008-10-14 Thread linuxcub
Public bug reported:

With the older Kernels of Ubuntu 6.10, 7.04,7.10, ndiswrapper wrapped the
windows XP driver of the AVM FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick (2005) beautifully. Yet with
Ubuntu 8.04 and the new Kernel no IP address is assigned anymore! For details
see:
http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/FRITZ!WLAN_USB_Stick#getestete-Kombinationen

Will this bug be fixed?

This is bad, because AVM is a popular seller of German WLAN boxes/sticks:
http://www.avm.de/en/index.php3
and many German users depend on the WLAN stick mentioned above. I own one,
too, and would not like to buy the newest WLAN equipment, just to be able to
run Hardy.

Nils Kassube's solution for Bug #200589: (fwlanusb crashes the system)
does not work for me (as for others), since I have as only means to get
to the Internet with Ubuntu, you guessed it, my Fritz!Stick.

Sadly, I (as other users) have to run the new Hardy with the old kernel
2.6.22-14 (which works with ndiswrapper), and have to be stuck with it
(forever?).

Full with hope,

siggi

Re: [Bug 145333] Re: no power management for a PC

2008-02-03 Thread linuxcub
Thank you for your mesage.

After having updated to Kubuntu 7.10, standby/hibernate, when activated
by user... these problems have gone, but: when I am inactive, screen
saver goes into sleep after the preset time, as before, but PC does not
go into standby after the preset time. Since I have the same problems
with WinXP, I guess this must be something I have to configure directly
in BIOS.

What happens when you run
sudo pmi action suspend
in the terminal?

Also, the output of
cat /proc/acpi/sleep
could be helpful. More likely than not this is a problem with the Linux kernel,
not Kubuntu itself.

[Bug 145333] no power management for a PC

2007-09-26 Thread linuxcub
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu 7.04

1) Supend button in the log-off menu: monitor switched off, green LED on
my PC flashes (as it does with Windows XP standby), but nothing else
happens, irrespective what I set in kmenu system settings monitor
display power saving. Not even after one hour, PC is not switched off
(as it would with windows)

2) When I leave my running Kubuntu, screen saver takes over after the
time delay I set. But nothing else happens, no standby, let alone
hibernate. The PC keeps running forever.

3) I cannot set power options with Kubuntu on my PC. When I run
guidance-power-manager in a terminal, I get this response: this is not
a laptop,...quitting .

4) The same holds for /etc/X11/xorg.conf: When I open this file, there
is no sectrion ServerFlags! Apparently only available for laptops,
too.
