[Bug 1913290] [NEW] winebrowser mailto opens Linux browser not mailer

2021-01-26 Thread Elizabeth Lock
Public bug reported:

I use Wine to run MS Office 2003 with a lot of fairly complex VBA. Most of it
works, but when I send a mail message to winebrowser mailto in Access VBA it
now gets opened in Firefox, not Thunderbird.

Dim DoMail As Long
DoMail = Shell("C:/windows/system32/winebrowser mailto:; & EMailAddress &
"?subject=Blah" & stSalutation & stText ... etc

Composes message correctly in Thunderbird under Wine 5.0.3 but goes
wrong in Wine 6.

I am using Lubuntu 18.04 LTS; I can tell you the overrides and
winetricks installations necessary to get Access VBA going if you wish;
it's fairly involved.

I have had to roll back to Wine 5.0.3.

[Bug 1325228] [NEW] light-locker mutes audio on lock, does not un-mute

2014-05-31 Thread Simon Lock
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Release:14.04

Xubuntu 14.04 LTS x64
light-locker 1.4.0

Using light locker mutes audio on lock (either on screen saver or via
light-locker-command -l) but does not un-mute audio at lightdm login /
resume.

My user account belongs to 'audio' group.

I would expect either audio to un-mute on unlock or an option not to
mute audio for the locked session.

[Bug 1296012] Re: cpuspeed display no graph

2014-05-15 Thread Nick Lock
This is related to the bug in kernel 3.11 described here:

https://lkml.org/lkml/2013/9/7/126

As the contents of /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/stats/time_in_state are
incorrect (and never update), firstly there is a strong chance that the plugin
will return values below $MINHZ - resulting in NaN being recorded.

Setting $MINHZ to 0 manually in the plugin code then returns 0 values on
the graph, as the type is set as DERIVE... as the values returned from
time_in_state never change, the derive is always zero. ;)

A kernel upgrade will probably fix the problem - the above page says
that the patch was submitted for 3.12-rc1. You could either wait until
3.12 is released for Saucy, or upgrade to Tahr which has 3.13(?)

[Bug 1166542] Re: Brasero stalls nomalizing mp3's

2013-08-08 Thread Joshua Lock
There's a bug in the normalisation pipeline since the port to GStreamer
1.0, I'm not entirely certain but I think it may be a GStreamer bug.

Whilst I continue to try and figure the root cause out and determine a
proper fix I've pushed a workaround which disables the normalisation
step of the transcode plugin, so that audio disc burning at least
completes:

[Bug 1084851] Re: No system-wide proxy for automatic proxy setting method

2013-04-16 Thread Joshua Lock
Of that I'm not really certain. I filed this report because as a user
the behaviour surprised me that some things would be able to access the
network and others wouldn't.

Having dug into the problem a little it's apparent that it's not trivial
to solve - that doesn't mean that it's not worth solving, though.

Perhaps Ubuntu could integrate the PACRunner project[1], or something
similar, and teach the various network dependant tools to talk to that
rather than relying on environment variables?

Or perhaps the tools can be taught to use libproxy[2]?

At the very least maybe we should alert the user that the automatic
settings will result in various things, such as software installation,
possibly not working.

I suppose which resolution is chosen depends on how much of a priority
seamless networking on proxied connections is for Ubuntu and the
engineers involved.

[Bug 1088124] Re: GtkRecentMenu always returns the most recent item, rather than the selected item, when calling gtk_recent_chooser_get_current_uri()

2012-12-10 Thread Joshua Lock
HI Sebastien,

As mentioned in comment #2 this bug is not present on Fedora 18 (gtk+
3.6.2) nor can I reproduce on Fedora 17 (gtk+ 3.3.4), I can certainly
file the bug upstream but I'd like to at least reproduce the issue
elsewhere first.

I did a bit of extra digging and nothing jumps out in a quick diff of
upstream gtk+3.6.0 to upstream gtk+3.6.2.

Further there's not delta of gtkrecentchooser.c,
gtkrecentchooserwidget.c, gtkrecentchoosermenu.c and gtkrecentmanager.c
between the Quantal bzr branch and upstream.

[Bug 1088124] [NEW] GtkRecentMenu always returns the most recent item, rather than the selected item, when calling gtk_recent_chooser_get_current_uri()

2012-12-08 Thread Joshua Lock
Public bug reported:

GtkRecentMenu always returns the most recent item, rather than the
selected item, when calling gtk_recent_chooser_get_current_uri().

I noticed this in some code I was working on and after spending some
time banging my head against it I decided to try and replicate the issue
in some other programs.

To reproduce the problem in MyPaint I took the following actions
1) Open several files with File-Open, so that the File-Open Recent menu has
more than 1 item in it
2) Select an item other than the first (0th) in the File-Open Recent menu

What happens:
The current item remains open.

What I expect to happen:
The selected item is opened.

Changing my code to use gtk_recent_chooser_get_current_item(), rather
than _get_current_uri(), results in the same issue.

[Bug 1088124] Re: GtkRecentMenu always returns the most recent item, rather than the selected item, when calling gtk_recent_chooser_get_current_uri()

2012-12-08 Thread Joshua Lock
To see the issue with the demo program follow these steps:

1) run the program with python gtk3recent.py and select File-Open Recent, this
will show the 5 most recent entries in the users' GtkRecent history.
2) select the first item in the list, the label in the window will show the uri
of the first item
3) select any item in the list other than the first, the label in the window
will *still*/*again* show the uri of the first item

Expected behaviour on selecting item other than the first:

The uri of the selected item will be shown

Actual behaviour on selecting item other than the first:

The uri of the first item is shown

I've also run the sample code on an updated Fedora 18 Beta, with gtk+
3.6.2, where the program runs as expected.

P.S: Please ignore the python3 shebang in the test program, Python3 is
not required.

[Bug 785271] Re: regular applications should have a Open New Window menu entry by default

I only discovered the middle-click to launch new window feature by
searching for and reading this bug report. It would be much more
discoverable if this were a menu entry in the right-click menu of the
Unity launchers.

[Bug 1084820] Re: Save Copy As with file opened from Firefox results in restrictive permissions

2012-12-03 Thread Joshua Lock
Hmm, interesting. It's expected that cp would result in the same
permissions as the tmp file. It's the G_FILE_COPY_TARGET_DEFAULT_PERMS
flag which should set the permissions to the defaults for the
destination directory.

I was wondering if the issue is in GLib but the test program mimics the
GLib paths without replicating the bug.

I'm kind of stumped as to where to look next...

[Bug 1084820] Re: Save Copy As with file opened from Firefox results in restrictive permissions

2012-11-30 Thread Joshua Lock
I don't think that this bug is in Evince itself. I've been taking a look
at the code and found that in ev_xfer_uri_simple() libdocument/ev-file-
helpers.c:419 the call to g_file_copy() passes
G_FILE_COPY_TARGET_DEFAULT_PERMS

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
branches/ubuntu/quantal/evince/quantal/view/head:/libdocument/ev-file-
helpers.c#L419

which according to the glib docs Leaves target file with default perms,
instead of setting the source file perms.

[Bug 1084820] Re: Save Copy As with file opened from Firefox results in restrictive permissions

2012-11-30 Thread Joshua Lock
Some debugging information.

The temp file opened by Firefox in Evince:

user@computer:/tmp
$ stat -c '%n %a %A' Some\ Pdf.pdf
Some\ Pdf.pdf 400 -r

The same file saved in my home directory using Save a copy:

user@computer:~/Documents
$ stat -c '%n %a %A' Some\ Pdf.pdf
Some\ Pdf.pdf 400 -r

user@computer:~/Documents
$ umask
0002

The resulting file should be 664 though, right?

[Bug 1084820] Re: Save Copy As with file opened from Firefox results in restrictive permissions

2012-11-30 Thread Joshua Lock
I just wrote a simple test program (attached) to try and replicate the
code path where the file is copied and it results in a file with 664
permissions.

Seems the bug *is* in evince, but it's not a bug that upstream can
replicate.

[Bug 961017] Re: Fails to report crash (“Network problem”)

2012-11-29 Thread Joshua Lock
I think Stephan is suggesting that the proxy settings aren't exported to
the environment in which apport is executed.

Certainly I've just tried to report an Ubuntu bug using apport and it
failed to communicate with a similar message and I am using a proxied
connection.

If I sudo su root - (the user I assume apport runs as) and look for
proxy related settings in env there are none.

[Bug 1084820] [NEW] Save Copy As with file opened from Firefox results in restrictive permissions

2012-11-29 Thread Joshua Lock
Public bug reported:

A common usage pattern of mine is to download PDF's through Firefox by
clicking the link and selecting Open with, on occasion I'd like to
keep the PDF's so use the File-Save a Copy As menu item in Evince to
save a copy in my home directory.

The files are copied with the same permissions they have when downloaded
by Firefox to tmp (r) - this leads to the protected badge icon
being displayed over the file in Nautilus and a file which is less
accessible (from a privileges perspective) than others created and saved
to my home directory (with the default permissions of rw-rw-r--).

I think it would be good to remain consistent with the default
permissions when effectively creating a new document rather than
maintaining the more restrictive permissions of the temporary file.

[Bug 1084840] [NEW] Install additional software button launches dialogue(s) which refers to Python (2.7) as the calling application

When I click the Install additional software required to use this
format button in the Preferences | Music window the spawned dialogue
boxes all refer to Python (2.7) as the triggering application, i.e:

Required plugin could not be found

Python (v2.7) requires to install plugins to create media files of the
following type: Vorbis encoder

I'd at least expect the name to be the application name (Rhythmbox), or
even better the X-GNOME-FullName key of the desktop file Rhythmbox
Music Player.

These should probably be a separate bug report, but the following issues
also stand out to me:

1) the English in the Required plugin could not be found dialogue is a little
awkward
2) The media files type isn't actually a media file type, but the name of the
required software component.

Ideally the not found dialogue would read something like this example:

Required plugin could not be found

Rhythmbox Music Player needs to install plugins to create media files of
the following type: Ogg Vorbis but they were not found.

I'm using a computer with a proxy configured via the network applet (and

however I'm not sure how to go about debugging this, any pointers would

Steps taken:

* Click clock - Time Date Settings
* Select Clock tab
* Check Time in other locations
* Click Choose Locations
* Click +
* Type New Yo
* wait ~30s nothing happens

Expected results:

[Bug 688102] Re: networking fails while in use (atl1c module?)

2010-12-16 Thread Nick Lock
Unfortunately, I am now unable to reproduce the fault!

After posting this report, I removed 2.6.32-26 and reinstalled 2.6.32-25
as the requirements to have a functional backup server became a little
more pressing :)

After the request to try slabtop, I switched back to 2.6.32-26, which
has remained stable through two unattended backup cycles (previously
unstable), and one high load attempt where I manually initiated a full
backup run. No problems were encountered...

As I cannot provide any further information at this point I would like
to apologise for wasting your time on this issue, and ask for the
possibility of revisiting this report in future if I can come up with
any more useful information?

[Bug 688102] [NEW] networking fails while in use (atl1c module?)

2010-12-09 Thread Nick Lock
Public bug reported:

First time bug-reporter here, so apologies if I've missed anything!

Since upgrading our Bacula server to 2.6.32-26 at the end of last week,
we have been unable to make backups due to the box losing its network
connection *while scheduled jobs are running*. The box is a Foxconn
NT330i
(http://www.foxconnchannel.com/product/Barebones/NT330i/index.html), and
we have identical boxes running 2.6.32-25 and 2.6.35-23 for other tasks
without issue.

Symptoms: box loses connectivity with the rest of the network whilst
network is in use (unknown % of capacity, but port is limited to
100Mb/s) , becomes unpingable but continues to operate. Box operated
correctly on previous kernels (eg 2.6.32-25). Syslog records errors like
this when failure occurs:

[Bug 611485] Re: [needs-packaging] needs-packaging: sigil

2010-09-25 Thread Duncan Lock
There's a PPA here, with a working up-to-date build of Sigil in, if that
helps any:

https://launchpad.net/~ikuya-fruitsbasket/+archive/ppa

I've tested this package on Lucid and it works well. The package is much
better than the binary installer direct from Sigil
(http://code.google.com/p/sigil/downloads/list), as it puts the short
cuts in the correct places, with the correct permissions and installs
into /usr/bin, rather than /opt/sigil.

[Bug 546392] Re: gwibber crashed with ValueError in render()

2010-04-04 Thread Duncan Lock
I've now switched to the nightlies (currently
2.31.1~bzr706-0ubuntu1~daily1) and I'm still having this problem. I get
exactly the same console output as in #4 and gwibber still won't start.

Hmmm... figured it out, duh. Gwibber won't start with a non-integer
default application font size, like the error says. Mine was
intentionally set to 10.5 point in System - Preferences - Fonts -
Application Font. sbas's is set to '8.599609375' (huh? Where did you get
that value from?). If I set mine to '10', Gwibber starts ok - sbas,
could you try changing yours to '9' and seeing if that fixes it for you
too?

I'm going to re-title this bug to reflect the actual cause.

Is there any way to get this updated version of CUPS if I'm running Karmic,

[Bug 544636] [NEW] java.lang.ClassCastException: com.lowagie.text.pdf.PdfDictionary cannot be cast to com.lowagie.text.pdf.PRIndirectReference

2010-03-22 Thread Duncan Lock
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pdftk

Since upgrading to 9.10 (Karmic), I've been getting an error processing
some pdf files with pdftk.

I get the error trying to process pdf files which have been printed from
OpenOffice Writer - but the same document 'exported' as a pdf file from
OO Writer (via File - Export as PDF...) - rather than being printed -
works fine with pdftk.

I'm using the version of OpenOffice that comes with Karmic
(Openoffice.org 3.1.1 OOO310m19 Build:4920, synaptic says openoffice
.org-writer 1:3.1.1-5ubuntu1.1). I think this is the same version of
office that I was using in Jaunty before upgrading, as I was using this
PPA with Jaunty (https://launchpad.net/~openoffice-pkgs/+archive/ppa),
so I'm guessing this might be something to do with the newer version of
CUPS-PDF that comes with Karmic?

My two test case pdf files were created by from a completely blank OO
Writer document both exported then printed to pdf - one works with
pdftk, the other doesn't. I've attached them to this bug.

I get this error when I try to process the printed one:

dun...@duncan-desktop:~/test$ pdftk blank_pdf_printed_settings_default.pdf
output printed_output.pdf
Unhandled Java Exception:
java.lang.ClassCastException: com.lowagie.text.pdf.PdfDictionary cannot be cast
to com.lowagie.text.pdf.PRIndirectReference
   at com.lowagie.text.pdf.PdfStamperImp.close(itext-2.1.5.jar.so)

This command also produces a zero length file called printed_output.pdf.
Doing the same thing with the exported pdf produces no error:

dun...@duncan-desktop:~/test$ pdftk
blank_pdf_exported_settings_default.pdf output export_output.pdf

and creates the export_output.pdf, as expected. All three pdf files
appear to work fine in evince.

This bug is a problem because the 'Export as PDF' feature in open office
doesn't produce faithful pdf's in all cases - printing to PDF seems to
work better - but now pdftk doesn't like my printed pdf's, thus messing
up my workflow. If there's any more information that I can provide that
would help debug this issue, please just let me know.

[Bug 289886] [NEW] Firefox resizes whole browser on javascript pop-up

2008-10-27 Thread Duncan Lock
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

When middle clicking the chart displayed on this page:

http://junkcharts.typepad.com/junk_charts/2008/10/vanishing-act.html

the image opens in a new tab, then the javascript attached to it runs,
re-sizing the whole browser window.

Clicking the chart normally, opens a new window which then gets resized
by the javascript - the intended behavior.

[Bug 178485] Re: Evince printing unprintable PDF marks

2008-07-17 Thread Duncan Lock
This is happening to me too - when printing postage labels downloaded from the
UK's Royal Mail. They have non-printing bits over the top - these are wrongly
printed by Evince - making the labels useless, but not in Adobe Acrobat Reader
for linux, v8.1.2 which behaves as expected and displays the text but doesn't
print it.
I've attached one of the PDF's which is affected.

** Attachment added: Royal Mail postage label, with non-printing text - which
prints.

[Bug 178485] Re: Evince printing unprintable PDF marks

2008-07-17 Thread Duncan Lock
This has two reports - with details - and two example PDF's which
reproduce the problem, so I don't think this is Incomplete anymore.

** Changed in: evince (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete = Confirmed
