[Bug 43961] Re: Power down after shutdown does not work...

2007-06-05 Thread magicwind
Sorry, guys. I was too glad that day.
Later when I tried #sudo rmmod pcmcia, sometimes the laptop could turn off
the power, but sometimes it could not.
Anyway, it gives me an option which could increase the possibility of
shutting down properly.
However, I'm still wondering why shutting down links with probability. Why
sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Weird!

[Bug 43961] Re: Power down after shutdown does not work...

2007-05-21 Thread magicwind
I have found a solution which works(at least yesterday and today) on my laptop.
My laptop is BenQ S73 with intel centrino duo T2050 and ATIx1600. I installed
Ubuntu Feisty.
I found that before shutdown, remove the pcmcia module as follows:

#sudo rmmod pcmcia

Then the computer COULD turn off the power.
I don't know the exact reason, and I have called the manufacturer. They said
that my has PCI express slot INSTEAD OF pcmcia slot.
So, for some not-so-old computers, maybe it is worth having a try.

I have tried uBo's method to remove the module snd-hda-intel (sudo rmmod
snd-hda-intel), but unfortunately it doesn't have any effect.
Anyway, how can I see more detailed logs besides the simply System power off
words after the log daemon has shut down, I want to confirm whether it is a
kernel bug or a bug related to my laptop's merchandiser.

[Bug 43961] Re: Power down after shutdown does not work...

2007-05-06 Thread magicwind
Hi all. I have the same problem on my 1 year-old BenQ S73G laptop.
I am using Ubuntu Feisty. My computer has a Core duo T2050 CPU with ATI x1600
graphics card, and I'm using ATI driver in the restricted area.
below is the summary of my situation:
***
reboot: works well
halt: systems stops at Will Now Halt. My hard drive seems to have been
properly stopped, but the power doesn't off, and CPU in infinite loop(cpu fan
makes noisy sound)
suspend: screen blank, but power does not off, either. Can not resume.
hibernate: almost same with halt, but can resume.
***
The odd thing is: sometimes hibernate DOES turn off the power(about 1 of 20
poweroffs). And I know this problem also affects Fedora Core 5 or 6.
I have tried kernel options: acpi=force, lapic,, but of no help.
My logs of lspci, dmesg, lshal are attached.
Thnks in advance
