I finally got the 0.8.3 debian package patched with the n-trig.patch and
it mostly works now. I saw in another bug-report that the kernel driver
is updated in the latest git kernel. So far we're getting close to
feature parity with jaunty.

[Bug 422359] [NEW] Wacom does not support 2.6.31 kernel and n-trig

2009-08-31 Thread markginter24
Public bug reported:

The n-trig digitizer in my Tx2 works in jaunty (with patches and such
found in ubuntuforums).

The patch is included in the 2.6.31 kernel - but the wacom tools / wacom
x-driver / wacom driver do not jive. The X log file reports that the
n-trig is not supported by linuxwacom.

It appears the 0.8.4 of the linuxwacom would fix this.

I tried two different configurations - both with DRI off:
1. I added the DRI off line to the xorg.conf file and allowed both the sideport

2. I left the DRI off line in the xorg.conf file and turned off the shared

Neither one allowed me to resume from suspend.

[Bug 298369] [NEW] Suspend / Resume broken HP dv8000 2.6.27

2008-11-15 Thread markginter24
Public bug reported:

Intrepid Ibex, AMD64bit processor, kernel 2.6.27-8-generic

The laptop suspends. When attempting to resume, the harddrive light
stays solid, the laptop backlight does not turn back on and the keyboard
does not respond.

Fedora 9 properly suspends/resumes. Opensuse 11.1 beta 5 properly
suspends/resumes (s2ram -f) so it is possible for the laptop to
suspend/resume properly.

[Bug 197135] Re: need to blacklist xpress200m when using ati driver

2008-03-08 Thread markginter24
Actually - you don't need xgl. Just installing the fglrx driver through
jockey-gtk allows you to log in (after rebooting) and enjoying compiz.
It appears as though compiz in 64bit runs smoother than compiz in 32bit.

The issue is the difference between fglrx and ati/radeon drivers. The
newest fglrx appear to support compiz while the ati/radeon driver
complains about it being an xpress200m -- allowing for 3d acceleration
but no compiz.

I concur on the trying to switch to vt's 1-6 on the live cd. It just
doesn't happen.

But - with 64bit Alpha 6 I didn't have to install xgl.

Maybe a quick blurb during the installation with ubiquity about You
appear to have an xpress200m chipset. For compiz support click now to
download and install the latest proprietary fglrx driver -- and then
the ability to do that in installation would be good.

But - I suspect that if the proper memory stuff is released in
documentation (from AMD) then it all becomes a moot point in the next
year.

[Bug 197135] Re: need to blacklist xpress200m when using ati driver

2008-03-07 Thread markginter24
I have an HP dv8000 with the xpress200m. When it boots from the Hardy
Live-CD's (32 or 64 bit) it will get to the point where it tries to load
compiz and then fails. When it fails it kicks back to GDM, auto logs
in, fails on compiz and back to GDM. I have to log into the x failsafe
terminal and run the install from there. Then - on the first boot I
have to log into the x failsafe terminal and figure out how to install
the fglrx driver. Once fglrx is installed and I reboot I can log into
my GNOME session no problem.

The problem is compiz - but even when you try to start compiz by hand
(compiz --replace) from the command line it doesn't crash you out of
your session -- it just tells you that there's an xpress200m and it
won't start compiz. Now - why it feels compelled to not quietly fail
and return to metacity on log-in is beyond me.

Just thought I'd mention this.

My thinking was that maybe it is a common error by WM's that is specific
to how they speak to openoffice? Thus it would apply to Metacity? I
really don't know -- I'm trying to find out if this is the intended
behavior or not. Would seem to me to be a step back from a usage
standpoint if the intended behavior is to no longer report to the window

The problem appeared the moment they enabled the ability to assign the

[Bug 156272] impress lacks window list entry in dual head

2007-10-23 Thread markginter24
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-impress

Starting with Impress 2.1 -- when in a dual-head display the
presentation window is no longer listed in the window-list applet in the
panel. This is regardless of desktop environment/window manager. When
a presentation is started in single-head mode it is listed in the
window-list applet, but the moment dual-head is used it is no longer
listed in the window-list applet. We have a setup where we use virtual
desktops to run multiple presentations so we can easily switch back and
forth between them without having to put them into one big presentation
file. We are no longer able to do this since the presentation that is
first started will not go to the back when you switch desktops. I've
attached pictures of a single-head and dual head setup with some simple
notations to point out what's happening.

Thanks!
