[Bug 192443] Re: Removing a user does not remove its main group

2009-05-11 Thread markor
I confirm this bug in Xubuntu Jaunty/9.04 64-bit

Actual result of this bug is that normal desktop user, using GUI application
for removing and
adding the same user name, is not able to do that. And that should be basic
thing on every OS
to be able to remove and add user with the same name. I suggest rising priority
to this bug.

[Bug 332790] [NEW] updatedb.mlocate slows applications to unusable state, while running

2009-02-21 Thread markor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mlocate

Every time updatedb.mlocate is running its scheduled task, it occupies hard
disk and its bandwith
so user space aplications become slow and unresponsive.

Every time it runs i am mostly unable to do normal work on my machine an i need
to wait
couple of minutes, doing nothing until that updatedb.mlocate thing is done.

I think that this is user-unfriendly behavior of updatedb.mlocate and I think
that
it should run with some kind of lower priority to dissk, not disturbing user
experience
and nor destroying Ubuntu usability for those few minutes.
I even switched time when that update runs , according to irc channel support,
and it still bugs me and destroy usability when i use computer at that time.

Current behavior: updatedb.mlocate occupies whole disk bandwith when it is run
on scheduled time,
not allowing user space applications to run and turn system in unusable state
during that run.
Crucial user-space actions are affected during its run.

Wated behavior: updatedb.mlocate should run at lower priority at disk usage to
avoid
blocking Ubuntu computer for the time it runs.

I run Xubuntu Hardy amd64 8.04.2/LTS

[Bug 319748] Re: /media is exluded of indexing in /etc/updatedb.conf

2009-02-21 Thread markor
Maybe that is default setting since if every media is indexed when is mounted
to /media
that would mostly kill your usability of that media.
Also, i think that, that database of files on /media is mostly useless if media
is not present and so.

It would be nice if user could easily set that behavior IF he wants that new
media that is inserted first time, be indexed. But it is question how it would
display results for media not present
and is there that indexing every removable media separately even implemented?

[Bug 113312] Re: locate knows about files on my encrypted partition

2009-02-21 Thread markor
I confirm that reasoning about this bug is right. Index if encrypted partitions
should be encrypted itself.
Thomas, does this indexing and putting index to unencrypted, also happens when
default
ubuntu default encryption is used?
Since /etc/locatedb.conf should be considered if some non-standard encryption
method is used.
But if standard encryption method is used, then this bug should be considered.

[Bug 133638] Re: user should be informed that updatedb is running

2009-02-21 Thread markor
I think that reasoning for this bug are right. I myself was affected with
system non responsive
and not knowing what is going on for a long time.
I even closed (and killed) all my running apps, only to find out that system is
doing something
I cant stop or minimize its usage, so it would definately inform user what is
going on, if we
want to stop it user from using its computer for several minutes.. while system
is doing something..

[Bug 330368] [NEW] seamonkey does not release memory when tabs and windows are closed and it use too much RAM

2009-02-16 Thread markor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seamonkey

Seamonkey 1.1.14 from ppa on Hardy/8.04 LTS amd64. (Same goes for 1.1.13
na 1.1.12 etc)

I currently have just one windows open, no additional tabs and seamonkey is
using more then 1GB of RAM.
I started seamonkey, like , in the morning with multiple tabs, used mail etc,
it quickly grows to more then 500MB.

I used it all day in multiple windows and many tabs, but I closed it now. i
have just one window,
but seamonkey keeps using more then 1GB of ram (I have 2GB on machine, thanks
god).

So I think it is a serious bug that seamonkey does not release memory to the
system after closing
tabs and windows.
I suppose it is upstream, also.
I don`t know if it is flash related or something but is have the same
enourmous, never getting lower, memory demands, no matter what flash version is
used.

[Bug 327251] Re: Seamonkey will not show email addresses in address book

2009-02-16 Thread markor
I don`t think I understand this bug report.
You have have Personal adresses and Collected adresses.

Also you can choose in EditPreferencesMailNewsgroupsAdressing ,
wheither collected adresses should be put in Collected Addresses or in Personal
addresses.

When you click on +Adresss it opens Personal Adress book by default.
If there is no addresses in Personal adress book, there will be no addresses
displayed.

Do you think there should be default to open collected adresses instead of
personal adresses?
What for?
There is reason why Different views are there. I would like to separate
collected addresses
from any mail I recieved from my Address book, like it is now.

[Bug 329616] Re: Multiple instances of xfdesktop started simultaneously

2009-02-15 Thread markor
I confirm this bug report. I am testing Xubuntu Jaunty 9.04 amd64, 20090216,
xfdesktop start so many times and never stop starting. if fulls up memory (1GB
and Up) with xfdesktop`s
processes and starts to go on swap (My machine has 2GB of ram, 1792MB for
Linux, 256MB for integrated
graphics).

I cannot log in to Xfce because of that and need to go to killall xfdesktop
with Ctrl+Alt+F2.
(And killing X with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace)
I temporarely removed xfdesktop with aptitude from command line and I can log
on Xfce
but without desktop and also there is no Xfce Menu anymore.

It is major block for further testing and bug reporting for me.

i tried to force previous version of xfdesktop in synaptic but with no
luck.

[Bug 329398] [NEW] numlock function and light reversed: ps/2 keyboard hardy amd64

2009-02-14 Thread markor
Public bug reported:

After last update (2.6.24-23) in Hardy/8.04LTS, amd64, Numlock on PS/2 keyboard
works in reversed way:
Numlock is on by default and numeric keys works but light does not light on.
When Numlock is on and light is on, numerical keyboard keys does not work, but
acts as cursor keys.
Therefore, light function of numeric keyboard is reversed then usual.

I installed jaunty testing on another partition and Numlock light on keyboard
behaves as usual,
so, PS/2 keyboard is not broken

I use Ps/2 Acer keyboard, usb Logitec mouse and 690G AM2 board from
Biostar, using integrated Graphics on VGA port. Keyboard Numlock works
like before on every other OS, but my updated Hardy amd64.

Actual behavior: Numlock is off when numeric keyboard are on
and numlock is on when numerik keyboard function is off.
Desired behavior: Numlock should be on when numeric keys function is on and
vice versa.

[Bug 326777] [NEW] flash content in seamonkey does not stop after tab is closed.

2009-02-07 Thread markor
Public bug reported:

Using Seamnkey 1.1.12 and 1.1.13 (1.1.14 is unavailable yet - Bug #315344 ) on
Xubuntu 8.04.2LTS/Hardy 64-bit.
Using newest Noscript extension with flash and javascript enabled for current
web page.
When user plays any Flash content on a web page opened in a browser tab (
youtube video, etc)
and then close that tab, content continue to play inside flash.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start Seamonkey (with flash installed)
2. Open new tab (Ctrl+T) nad Go to page with flash (youtube.com) with
Seamonkey.
(Enable javascript and flash content if not enabled previously)
3. open any video or flash content (possibly one with audio)
4. While flash still active, close tab opened on that web page that uses flash
5. Flash continues to play even after closing web page tab (if audio present it
can be heard)

Desired behavior: Flash content inside web page should stop running when tab
for a web page is closed:
Actual behavior: Flash continues to play in the background, eve after page is
closed.

/Also there is huge memory usage in Seamonkey that grows over time and does not
drop down
/but it is unsure to me if that is due this bug cousing memory not released or
some wider Seamonkey bug.

[Bug 314327] Re: Problem opening Gmail account

2009-02-07 Thread markor
I cannot reproduce bug on hardy 8.04.3/64bit with Seamonkey 1.1.12 an
1.1.13.

Consider that opening gmail in standard mode use a bit more bandwidth then in
html mode.
You can try to use Noscript extension to turn off Google scripts if you want to
enforce
automatic loading of basic html interface.

I think that this is actually not Seamonkey bug, but we need one more
confirmation
from someone using 32-bit Ubuntu.

[Bug 316727] Re: mousepad search/replace function broken

2009-01-16 Thread markor
I can reproduce it while editing /boot/grub/menu.lst and string to search and
replace
is long (UUID of disk).
UUID=d34a15b0-c44b-42e9-88a2-b122f01ba07b to replace it with string /dev/md2

Actually it is not easy to reproduce.
If you do open mousepad open text file select and copy string to replace
go to SearchReplace and enter new string replacing will be done well.

**But if you firstly use Find function to find string inside text file
**and THEN you use Replace function then you get new string beside old one in
text instead of
**replacing it.
** Also bug can be reproduced ONLY if mousepad is run as root, using gksu.
(If you use sudo mousepad, it works fine, only if you invoke it with gksu, bug
can be seen)

New steps to reproduce:

(Provided you saved Test123.txt inside /tmp/Test123.txt)
ALT+F2(or from bash) , type: gksu mousepad /tmp/Test123.txt
use Find function to search for string
UUID=d34a15b0-c44b-42e9-88a2-b122f01ba07b.
Now Use Search/replace function to replace
UUID=d34a15b0-c44b-42e9-88a2-b122f01ba07b
with /dev/md2. (With match case and replace all at once on)
You get old string intact, with added new string to the right.

So, since Bug does not appear when using sudo, Maybe there is some
gksu to mousepad glitch..
 gksu: Version: 2.0.0-5ubuntu3.8.04.1
 mousepad: Version: 0.2.14-0ubuntu1

Also I attached Test123-1.txt with texttoChangE to be replaced with newstring
** Also, notice that bug appears only if New string is shorter then string that
you are replacing.

[Bug 316344] Re: Updated 2.6.24-23 kernel does not start X with fglrx 8.12 ATI driver

2009-01-16 Thread markor
It seems that problem is with ATI fglrx 8.12 driver.
Version of 8.12 driver (made to deb`s) refuses to work with 2.6.24-23 if
packages are made under 2.6.24-22.

I rebooted with vesa, installed ubuntu-repository fglrx, made 8.12 fglrx debs
under 2.6.24-23
and not ATI driver works with 2.6.24-23.
So this means that anyone that installed ATI 8.12 driver on 2.6.24-22 on Hardy
should make new packages and re-install them in Hardy/2.6.24-23 kernel.

After that, fglrx made for 2.6.24-23 can not be started under 2.6.24-23 anymore.
So i think this is ATI bug for making kernel-dependent deb`s and not
Distro-depended.

I confirm that this bug cannot be reproduced anymore on Hardy.

[Bug 316727] [NEW] mousepad search/replace function broken

2009-01-13 Thread markor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mousepad

Using Xubuntu 8.04.1 LTS amd64. (Also observed on 32-bit hardy and newer
versions of mousepad)
mousepad versions with bug: all the way up to 0.2.14-0ubuntu1 (tested on Hardy)

mousepad (Xfce default text editor) has, like any editor, SearchReplace
function
that opens mini-window with Two Boxes: `Find what` and `Replace with` and
`Match case` and `Replace all at once` options.

How to reproduce: Load an medium size text file with multiple repeating text
strings.
Start mousepad and activate SearchReplace function, enter string to find and
string to replace with.
Make shure `Replace all at once` option is selected.
Press `Find and Replace` button

Results:
Replace is done by not replacing string found in the text file, but adding new
string after
found string, thus not doing replace but findadd new string after.

Desired results:
Replace function in mousepad should actually replace strings it founds.

Current workaround:
Do not use mousepad. Use gedit or leafpad or nano editors instead until solved.

I think this is major bug to Xubuntu since, mousepad is default text
editor in this Ubuntu variant.

[Bug 315338] Re: Failed boot after update [hardy] amd64 -2.6.24-23 , fglrx

2009-01-12 Thread markor
Hi Steve,

- I manually change root instead of UUID Because 1) UUID was set for
wrong partition (first partition with linux instead of right one) 2)
boot partition UUID was right but it refused to buut with UUID set.

- I don`t know. Installer takes first ubuntu installed partition if finds and
points all menu.lst options to that partition. why? I don`t know.
To my experience on every kernel update, UUID is changed and reseted. (So since
I need manually to
ovveride it every time after update ,so that I can boot to my system, It is
updated every time.
As I said, I always set to /dev/* device after kernel update so I can even boot.
Maybe I shoud keep it set to UUID but I would`n change to /dev/* in the first
place
if on first update, it would`n set UUID for all menu items to first partition
it finds, e.g. /dev/sda2,
where i always have newer system i suppose to be testing.

I think that main bug here is that after recent update, I cannot start X at all
with 2.6.24-23 ,
with same menu.lst settings I can boot to 2.6.24-22.

There is no way for me to avoid to have wrong menu.lst on every Hardy kernel
update
if I have one more Ubuntu/Linux installed beside Hardy.
Hardy updates sets all menu.lst items to UUID of the first installed partition
and not required ones.
So I do backups every time, and repair all items on menu.lst every time kernel
updates, so I can even boot.

[Bug 315338] Re: Failed boot after update [hardy] amd64 -2.6.24-23 , fglrx

2009-01-12 Thread markor
Maybe we should focus on this:
- updating menu.lst procedure fails to select proper system partition where
Ubuntu is installed
and direct all items in menu.lst to first Ubuntu-installed partition on first
disk it finds
And newest beahvior is this too:
- Even with proper UUID for /boot partition in menu.lst,
System fails to boot until grub name of partition is put in boot= line. (It
was mistake on first post)

[Bug 246470] Re: installing of lightning 0.8 doesn't work

2009-01-09 Thread markor
Try installing one from hardy-backports repository
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy-backports/lightning-extension
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy-backports/i386/lightning-extension/download
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy-backports/amd64/lightning-extension/download

It is still in 0.8 version. hopefully it will be updated to 0.9..

[Bug 246470] Re: installing of lightning 0.8 doesn't work

2009-01-09 Thread markor
I am setting this as Fix released
as hardy-backports repository includes 0.8 version of lightning-extension
package.
It hopefully will be updated to 0.9 and after that lightning should be
integrated with Thunderbird 2.0
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy-backports/lightning-extension

** Changed in: thunderbird (Ubuntu)

[Bug 315338] [NEW] Failed boot after update [hardy] amd64 -2.6.24-23 , fglrx

2009-01-08 Thread markor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I use Xubuntu 8.04.1/hardy amd64.
Tonight around 02:00 UTC i downloaded huge hardy update with update-manager and
installed.
During install update asks me what to do with menu.lst and install maintainer
version selected
and I agreed. After that, I restarted computer.
System failed to boot due to malformed /boot/grub/menu.lst , selecting any menu
item.

I needed to boot to rescue shell from alternate cd , mount /boot
and to edit items in menu.lst to previous settings to boot system.

2.6.24-23 kernel will not boot computer (It restart system when getting to X)
(I use latest fglrx ATI driver, version 8.12)

Previous 2.6.24-22 does boot but only after thi modifications:
Not working:
title Ubuntu 8.04.1, kernel 2.6.24-22-generic
root8a3bf030-dc45-4697-9c6e-a8a80a80011a
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.24-22-generic
root=UUID=e37d69c4-3c26-4919-abd3-18fc8723dbcd ro quiet splash
initrd /initrd.img-2.6.24-22-generic
quiet
Working:

title Ubuntu 8.04.1, kernel 2.6.24-22-generic
root(hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.24-22-generic root=/dev/md2 ro quiet splash
initrd /initrd.img-2.6.24-22-generic
quiet

(I use raid device /md2 as root for my installation but you put your HD
partition where your ubunut is,
like /dev/sda1 or /dev/hda2 etc..)

Also, root uuid it OK but UUID in kernel line is used from first Ubuntu
installed partition on disk,
instead of right one. After changing root= line system won`t start until root
line is changed not to reflect
UUID but root partition name.

New 2.6.24-23 kernel does not work even after menu.lst modification. (maybe
fglrx 8.12 trouble?)
I hope it helps with changing update, before all users or 64-bit xubuntu or all
ubunut
had failed to start their systems after todays update..

So I assume this is multiple bug but it all happend after update. It could be
dissolved in 3 bugs:
- Kernel 2.6.24-23 in update does not work / does not work with Ati proprietary
driver version 8.12 (restart)
- updating menu.lst procedure fails to select proper system partition where
Ubuntu is installed
and direct all items in menu.lst to first Ubuntu-installed partition on first
disk it finds
- Even with proper UUID for /root partition i menu.lst, System fails to boot
until grub name of partition is
  put in root= line.

** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 297789] Re: Seamonkey should be updated to 1.1.13

2009-01-03 Thread markor
We post bugs because we Love to see things fixed to the benefit to us and the
other users.
That is all about development process. We contribute, it comes back to all.

Seamonkey itself is in Universe repository and that means that it is not core
of Ubuntu but included
to user`s request. So Core staff does not seems to provide support nor the same
care as to the supported products. Therefore, it is not productive to call
people so-called.
let`s do all we can to make Seamonkey stay and be updated in *Ubuntu.

[Bug 297789] Re: Seamonkey should be updated to 1.1.13

2009-01-03 Thread markor
Hi.
I can download and install 64-bit binary from seamonkey-project.org but It`s
not the point.
I Need to do that to my notebook computer, to my VM installations, to my
friend`s computer, etc etc..
I would rather make all effort I can and is in my power to make newer SM
available to *Ubuntu
then just solve problem for myself temporarily.
I myself made SM 1.1.13 for Hardy when it was available in Jaunty repository. I
still don`t know how to do that for a version that is not in a repo but I will
learn..

[Bug 77702] Re: Memory leak in xfce4-menu-plugin

2009-01-02 Thread markor
I am using Xubuntu Hardy/8.04.1 LTS amd64/x86_64 version
My xfce4-menu-plugin can grow to insane values, sometimes over 200MB
Currently while I am writing this it is 148MB since I am runing it few days now.
(As seen from System monitor)
I removed menu plugin from panel and added it again few days ago and
upon start it takes about 12MB..

[Bug 296185] Re: seamonkey spontaneously closes without warning

2009-01-01 Thread markor
I suggest you to reinstall seamonkey from synaptic.
Also if you use any addons take a look at description. For example mnenhy on
mozilla.org
does not work well with seamonkey 1.1.12 but version 0.7.6 works well.
I would like to know on what https:// page you were when it close itself.
Also, modern theme is present in default seamonkey installation, there is no
need to
install it as add-on. Please report if this bug is still reproducible.

[Bug 311227] Re: Flash 9 causes stopping and starting of video on hulu.com

2008-12-25 Thread markor
The same thing happens to me in Firefox 3 when I am opening video in new window.
Video plays and I can hear sound but where flash with video should be, it is
empty and white.
When I closta that tab and copy/paste adress to new opened tab, it plazs, until
another video
is trying to play.
In Seamonkey 1.1.12 and 1.1.13 closing tab does not stops flash video from
playing, sound is heard in
background, but opening video in new tab does not gives white square, but plays.
I use Xubuntu 8.04.1/Hardy amd64.
Also I use proprietary fglrx driver 8.9 and mow 8.12 , installed from debs.

[Bug 21202] Re: firefox doesn't work with gtk clipboard management

2008-12-22 Thread markor
I think I am not experiencing this bug.
I use Xubuntu Hardy/8.04.1 amd64 with current Firefox 3.0.5.
I currently run Glipper (1.0-1ubuntu1) with XfApplet(0.1.0-3ubuntu2) inside
Xfce panel.

When I copy text in Firefox and then close firefox I can paste text.
It is also listed in the Glipper Clipboard list. I am not sure, maybe this bug
is fixed for Firefox?
Or I am not good at reproducing it/don`t understand bug report?

[Bug 136803] Re: Thunderbird download all old messages

2008-12-19 Thread markor
The same thing is happening when using Seamonkey mail. (SM mail and thinderbird
are
close-related and share most of the code base )
When You have many messages in your mail box and you are left with no free
space on drive,
then it tries to re-download all messages.
This should be (And I am sure it already has being) reported upstream,
because I managed to experience it even on M$ Windows , before I switched to
Xubuntu amd64.

[Bug 290857] Re: Quirky Seamonkey Error Messages

2008-12-17 Thread markor
Ok, since I have no such trouble on Hardy/8.04.1LTS I can only think Bug is
Interpid-related.
You could try starting seamonkey from the command Line and then look at the
output in case
seamonkey crashes or put message again and eather post that log here or see for
errors in log.

Since I cannot reproduce a bug, try to first backup/copy your .mozilla directory
and try after that to use it and see if it repeats.

It`s nothing wrong with being stuck with 1.1.12, all Ubuntu editions but
testing/Jaunty ane on it now.

Thing I personally do is to compile Seamonkey for Hardy from testing source,
the moment it is available in testing ubuntu repository. (*.dsc *.orig.tar.gz,
*diff.gz).
I follow procedure found in package debian-reference I installed from synaptic.
After download i do sudo apt-get build-dep seamonkey , dpkg-source -x *.dsc ,
cd seamonkey*, dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -us -uc
And i get packages for Ubuntu i am currently using and I install then with
cd.., sudo dpkg -i *.deb
One can also install binary package from seamonkey-project.org if it is badly
needed.

(Personally I just don`t like that ubuntuzilla.wiki.sourceforge.net solution.
I am using 64-bit Seamonkey and I am doing well without 32--bit now..

But the propper way it just to wait until repository has fresh Seamonkey and it
will upgrade to it automatically. (or to post a bug about it, like I did for
Seamonkey 1.1.13)
Seamonkey latest bugfix/security release is 1.1.14.

[Bug 297789] Re: Seamonkey should be updated to 1.1.13

Since Seamonkey 1.1.14 is released it would be good idea for Seamonkey package

PDK I am not sure how to reproduce this bug. I am using seamonkey 1.1.13 on
Hardy/x86_64
and I am not experiencing this bug in everyday work.
I could test on 8.10 but ,again, I am not sure how to reproduce a bug.

Visiting what pages this bug shows up? Did you try 1.1.13?
Did you tried to use Seamonkey as another user or to make another clean profile

if messages re-appears again?

[Bug 256505] Re: FireFox too slow take all CPU

2008-12-11 Thread markor
Most probably user is not blocking Flash on pages he is using.
It can be achieved by using Noscript addon.

Therefore, Flash is using all cpu and flash is cause to computer being
unresponsive.
Reporter could contact those sites owners and complain about high cpu usage
and also disable Flash with Noscript.

According to packages.debian.org, there is Iceape 1.1.13 available i their

So, Seamonkey 1.1.13 for Ubuntu should be made available.
I take a look to other distributions releases and they all updated this
security-related
release to version 1.1.13 (Debian, Fedora, Slackware, OpenSUSE) so why not
Ubuntu to be up-to-date with faster release-build-test-repository release

Also, besides, builds for Jaunty and Interpid, Update for Hardy/LTS should be

So I could not tell it is confermed.

Whould you be so nice to tell,
- Do you use mail component of seamonkey suite
- what addons you have installed on top of seamonkey,
- from what sources plugins are being installed
- and to start seamonkey from command line and use it that way untill it
crashes, copy/paste
its command-line output to some text file and attach it here as a file so we
could see what
output does it gives. (and compare with mine)

Noscript usually disables javascript on non-approved pages and that is what

Please clarify where (on on what page) button for installing addons is not

On addons.mozilla.org or inside Seamonkey itself during *.xpi addon install?

Also, note that there is a certain Timeout ofter star *.xpi addon install and

[Bug 260891] Re: Kernel not running stable with SB600 USB Controller

I am also experiencing this problem with USB Hub not recognized after plugging

Also peripherals plugged to USB hub are not recognized the second time, after
putting it in ISB , plugging it out and plugging it back again.
it is mostly annoying ,specially for USB flash memory that could be mounted
and used only Once
before restart.
I am using Xubuntu 64-bit 8.04.1 LTS and I am not planing to move to non-LTS
distribution for some time.
What should I do to make normal use of USB on LTS release?
Does this means that Ubuntu server behaves the same way as desktop. e.g. If I
want to backup
server to external USB HDD, I could do it only once without restart?

version till Interpid/8.10 is 0.4.3

Newer version of xfce4-xkb-plugin 0.5.1 include very convenient way of choosing

New Look of xfce4-xkb-plugin: http://beranger.org/blogo21/new_xkb-plugin.png

Current behavior: xfce4-xkb-plugin does not include solution to define layout

If the eject button is pressed again briefly after first time, then it can be
opened..
Tested on amd64

[Bug 287416] [NEW] network slow and system freeze after new kernel

2008-10-22 Thread markor
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-21-generic

I am using Xubuntu 8.04.1 (upgraded automatically from 8.04) on amd64, using
Amd X2 3600+, 2GB Ram and 2 Seagate Hdd`s in software Raid.
I am also using Sagem 800 E3 modem for ADSL and ueagle-atm driver.
This is the way I am getting on the internet:
~$ cat /usr/bin/eagleup
#!/bin/sh
modprobe ueagle-atm
modprobe br2684
br2684ctl -b -c 0 -a 8.35
ifconfig nas0 up
pon dsl-provider
After installing latest updates few days ago (2.6.24-21) I experieced noumerous
problems,
including: Slower work, Adsl ppp connection behaving crazy (web pages do not
open fully
and opening is VERY slow and unpredictable).
Internet radio playing begins and then Stops after a minute.
Also, Every download is slower by at least 40 percent and it stops randomly
during download
so it is completely unpredictable..
As the cherry on top when I shut down network interface of adsl, then all
programs locks up
stop responding, i cannot log out because buttons t\does not respond and after
killing X
with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace trying to shut down, system won`t go down even if I
press Ctrl+Alt+Del..

After selecting previous kernel: 2.6.24-19 in GRUB, everything behaves
nicely..
Internet is now Very fast like before, no freezing and everything is like it
was before.

So, my conclusion is that there is something wrong with current 2.6.24-21 in
8.04.1 for amd64.
Steps to reproduce: Just update Ubuntu amd64 to latest kernel and watch your
adsl performance and lockups.
Desired behavior: Network tranfers should not be interrupted and programs
should not freeeze, like with 2.6.24-19
Workaround: Use 2.6.24-19 kernel until problem is solved.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Visibility changed to: Public

[Bug 253772] Re: Resume after hibernate on KDE 4.1 reveals an unlocked session

2008-10-22 Thread markor
I am using Xubuntu 8.04.1 i386 on my Asus eeepc 701 mini-laptop.
When I go from Hibernation, the system is UNLOCKED to anyone who
get a hand to my computer.

So because of this Ubuntu behavior, All my data could be stolen
even if I use truecrypt , because session is Unlocked every time
you resume from hibernation..
So I consider this Unloced from hibernation truely a security risk.

Just to mention, I am using Xfce, so it is Ubuntu-related, not just Kde-
related problem..
