[Bug 256749] Re: Unable to mount location -- Internal error: No mount object for mounted volume

2011-05-12 Thread matthew72
still get this error in 10.04, with gvfs-mount NAME where NAME is listed
by gvfs-mount --list. it works with gvfs-mount smb://server/share.

[Bug 256749] Re: Unable to mount location -- Internal error: No mount object for mounted volume

2011-05-12 Thread matthew72
i also tried to mount the device (a luks encrypted one this time), this
is the result:

$ gvfs-mount -d /dev/sda5
Enter a password to unlock the volume
The device 320 GB Hard Disk contains encrypted data on partition 5.
Password:

(gvfs-mount:5120): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_mount_get_root: assertion
`G_IS_MOUNT (mount)' failed

(gvfs-mount:5120): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_file_get_path: assertion `G_IS_FILE
(file)' failed
Mounted /dev/sda5 at (null)

(gvfs-mount:5120): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion
`G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

(gvfs-mount:5120): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion
`G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

an icon appeared in the gnome-panel saying a device was added, but
strangely it didn't create the desktop icon (not that i care much, but
gvfs-mounting an smb share instead gives the desktop icon but not the
notification in gnome-panel, and the same happens if i mount the
partition in nautilus). the mountpoint was created anyway, and the mount
was successful, so gvfs-mount -d seems to be a viable workaround. too
bad gvfs-mount --list doesn't say the device; is there a reliable way to
get the device node (i mean /dev/whatever) from its name?

[Bug 668337] Re: package codelite-plugins (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/codelite/abbreviation.so', which is also in package codelite 0:2.6.0.4189-ubuntu0

2011-04-15 Thread matthew72
i installed codelite from the ubuntu repository and it works fine without
plugins.
but i also tried to install codelite-plugins and got the same error (trying to
overwrite '/usr/lib/codelite/abbreviation.so') :
'/usr/lib/codelite/abbreviation.so' is in both codelite and codelite-plugins
packages, i'd guess because of some refactoring like splitting plugins out of
the main package.
i still didn't try to use the dpkg divert trick to rename one of the two out
of the way, i guess that will allow me to install the plugins.
anyway i think one of codelite and codelite-plugins should be fixed: either all
plugins go in codelite-plugins, or some go in codelite and the rest in
codelite-plugins (maybe codelite-plugins-extra if so?) but definitely each
plugin better stay in one package not both.

[Bug 93603] Re: RFE: Add more php5 extensions (like php5-gmp)

2011-04-05 Thread matthew72
sorry, my bad... i even missed it's in phpinfo() output. i've been
mislead by a post somewhere (perhaps intended for php4) saying it should
be enabled in php.ini with extension=simplexml.so (which was causing
an error of course) and the existence of a php-simplexml package in
other distros. should have checked better first.

i guess simplexml is another obvious one, unless i'm mistaken it should
be enabled by default on php5 but i couldn't find out how to get it on
ubuntu lucid. might be my fault anyway, i'm pretty new to php.

[Bug 551521] [NEW] terminal output window can only be resized to grow

2010-03-30 Thread matthew72
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

the terminal output window can only be resized to be wider or taller, and once
done cannot be resized back.
the size persists across invocations; i don't know whether it always behaved
like this or
in my case, i mistakenly made it taller than the desktop and now part of it
sticks in another viewport; the window bounces up and down when clicked to
allow me clicking the close button -- btw, thanks to whoever has been so nice
to implement this functionality.
i looked for synaptic data files in /root (it's started by gksu) and in my home
but didn't find anything about the terminal window geometry (but found main
window geometry). i suppose it's an external applet not part of synaptic, any
hint as where do i find the geometry setting to reset it by hand?

[Bug 479826] Re: gnome-panel consuming 100% of CPU and driving up memory

2010-03-11 Thread matthew72
It happened to me after adding a new panel:
- right clicked top panel, New panel
- panel appeared at the right edge of the screen
- right clicked new panel, Properties
- set orientation to Top
- the panel stacked below the existing one
- checked auto-hide
- all panels turned empty at once, the system froze with 100% cpu used by
process gnome-panel, also using an increasing amount of memory
then I had a hard time gaining control of my box, the system was nearly
unresponsive, the process would immediately restart when killed, rebooting
didn't solve it. In case it happens to somebody else, here's how I got out of
trouble: I didn't exactly know what to do but it had to be something with
gnome-panel settings in my home folder, so i switched to a text-mode console
(ctrl-alt-f1), logged in, find -iname *panel*|less showed lots of results,
among which i found:
~/.gconf/apps/panel/general/%gconf.xml -- at the bottom i found two entries for
the default top and bottom panels as well as a third one called panel_4,
which i removed
~/.gconf/apps/panel/toplevels/panel_4 -- i removed the whole folder
then i rebooted and finally resumed breathing...
