I don't know what happened, but it looks like a rebuild initramfs
(update-initramfs) when installing old plymouth packages
(0.9.5git20210323-0ubuntu1) solved the problem. Now plymouth
0.9.5git20210406-0ubuntu1 works as well. I don’t know how it’s
connected. The memtest86 memory test did not reveal

New version of plymouth (after 0.9.5git20210323-0ubuntu1) makes login
black screen and does not return a picture. Only the mouse cursor is
visible on the black screen.
Previous plumouth combination of packages:
libplymouth5_0.9.5git20210323-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb
The fact is that: 1) the system touches the device (sr0) when the user does not
touch the device (at boot and constantly while the system is running),
2) these calls from the first paragraph cause errors.
We want to 1) fix these errors, 2) remove unnecessary calls to the sd0 device.
