[Bug 275423] Re: intrepid madwifi ath5k with AR242x not detecting all wireless networks and link speed is very poor

2008-11-06 Thread nclm
The backports package was updated again because the first time the new
wireless compat was not included. From changelog:

  * Really update to wireless-testing master-2008-10-31
Somehow either git failed me, or it was pilot error,
but the last upload wasn't master-2008-10-31. This also
includes the b44 driver.
-LP: #293217

Please try again updating the package...

2008-11-05 Thread nclm
After the latest update of the linux-backports-modules package with the
new wireless-compat, the messages from Antoines log, I had too before,
are gone and the connection is rock solid. I don't even experience
packet loss anymore - I had a few with ath_pci before

2008-11-05 Thread nclm
After the latest update of the linux-backports-modules package with the
new wireless-compat, my wifi connection with ath5k is rock solid and I
don't encounter packet loss anymore I had before with ath_pci. Still got
very few ath5k phy0: noise floor calibration timeout (2412MHz), but it
doesn't seem to influence my connection. All other dmesg errors and
wireless-compat backtraces are gone...

[Bug 267761] Re: Wireless on Atheros 5213A drops often, is slow, and ath5k_pci consumes large amounts of CPU

2008-10-30 Thread nclm
The ath5k in backports-modules worked much better than the one we have
in the current ubuntu kernel but I think the new compat-wireless stack
is making trouble. I had the same backtraces in my dmesg as they were
mentioned in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-
modules/+bug/275423/comments/10 so I'm back at ath_pci.

[Bug 275423] Re: intrepid madwifi ath5k with AR242x not detecting all wireless networks and link speed is very poor

2008-10-23 Thread nclm
I've now experienced a much better performance and no more error
messages in dmesg since I've installed the linux-backports-modules-
intrepid-generic package after Loïc Minier told in Bug #275692 that
there's a newer version of ath5k in the backports-modules pkg.

I've still blacklisted ath_pci.

[Bug 269253] Re: ath5k with AR5424 fails at startup or resume

2008-10-20 Thread nclm
I get these unable to reset channel and noise floor calibration
messages too (ath5k only - ath_pci blacklisted). They are appearing
frequently in a few minutes and decrease my tranmission rates because
the transmission alway hangs shortly. On the other hand suspend and
resume works fine while on ath_pci I don't get my wifi connection back
after resuming.

These messages seems related to: http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive

The xorg.conf is an initial version of 8.04. No changes from me.

I think in Xorg.0.log you can the TMDS-1 comes last:

(II) intel(0): Output TMDS-1 connected

[Bug 221297] [NEW] Wrong resolution for DVI connected Monitor on startup

2008-04-24 Thread nclm
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I have a Thinkpad T61 with an Intel X3100 GMA. I also have the advanced
mini dockingstation with a DVI connector. The Problem is that the intel
graphics driver seems to prioritize the wrong way. VGA comes first,
then LVDS and then TMDS-1. So when I boot up with the laptop docked in
and the external monitor connected to TMDS-1 I'll get only the
resolution of the internal monitor (WXGA) instead of SXGA+.

Everytime this happens I must execute xrandr --output TMDS-1 --auto
--output LVDS --off.

Strange to say VGA comes first so when I connect my Monitor via VGA
instead of DVI everything applies as expected.

[Bug 199099] [NEW] [PATCH] cpuidle: avoid singing capacitors

2008-03-06 Thread nclm
Public bug reported:

A lot of thinkpad users have problems with some sort of high pitch noise
(see http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_high_pitch_noises ).
There is a patch and some ongoing discussion about that noise in general
at: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.power-
management.general/10039/focus=10088

Perhaps this patch should be applied to ubuntus current kernel to avoid
