[Bug 726496] Re: Cannot use Unity or Classic desktop with effects after the latest nvidia+xorg update

2011-04-30 Thread nltnjnns
I am experiencing this same problem. On a complete install (amd64), the
loaded nvidia driver is 173. Installing current and restarting results
in a screen which looks like the Unity screen, but does not respond to
mouse clicks.

Re: [Bug 89160] Re: Cannot connect to router/server/proxy with bad TCP Wscale implementation

2008-04-22 Thread nltnjnns
My problem was solved when I

edited /etc/sysctl.conf

and added the following two lines

net.ipv4.tcp_wmem = 4096 16384 131072
net.ipv4.tcp_rmem = 4096 87380 174760

This seems a little geeky, and I would hope that the Ubuntu developers
somehow address this issue in future releases. (It wasn't a problem in
7.04; appeared in 7.10 and continued in the 8.04 (beta).)

From some particular web servers, a machine running feisty cannot get an
HTTP response. However, machines running most other OSs can get an HTTP

 How to reproduce the problem:

Use wget or any web browser to try to retrieve the file from this URL:

The client resolves the host, establishes a connection, and sends an HTTP

[Bug 220848] Re: Firefox doesnt display webpage after clicking link

2008-04-22 Thread nltnjnns
This sounds like a problem that I was having. It isn't FireFox. It
wasn't there in 7.04, but was in 7.10. I am on 8.04 (beta) now.

Go to Terminal enter this to edit the sysctl.conf file --

gksudo gedit /etc/sysctl.conf

add the following two lines

net.ipv4.tcp_wmem = 4096 16384 131072
net.ipv4.tcp_rmem = 4096 87380 174760

restart your machine try again.

I know this is geeky, and perhaps a permanent solution will be coming
from the Ubuntu folks.

If this doesn't solve your problem, re-edit the above remove the 2
lines. Just to be safe.

Re: [Bug 209359] Re: Once I leave a web page return, I receive the following message: The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

2008-04-16 Thread nltnjnns
Hi -

I truly appreciate all of your effort. I was not able to fully load this
page. It would partially load, and then just 'spin'.

While it was spinning, I pressed the Get Started button. Then it
eventually timed out with the following message:

Connection Interrupted
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try
again.

This happened on several attempts.

After receiving this error, I immediately went to youtube watched a
video. So my network connection was working properly.

Thanks again. It sounds like you have a suspicion as to what the problem
is. If I can help further, please let me know.

2008-04-04 Thread nltnjnns
Hi John -

I tried it with Ephipany also with Firefox 2. On the initial pass through
the webpage, it sometimes works. However, when I try again, the webpage
just spins and times out.

I have great network reception, and can go to other pages without problems.
I even downloaded both Ephiphany Firefox 2 between attempts at going to
the trouble sites.

Again, the main one is www.frontlineplacement.com -- my wife uses this for
work.

I have IE and Firefox 2 on my Windows PC, and never have this problem going
to the site. I even alternated Ubuntu Windows in the same time frame.
Ubuntu typically has the spinning problem; Windows never does.

The same issue occured with Ubuntu 7.10 Firefox 2.0.

I truly appreciate all of your help.

If I can help in anyother way, please let me know.

I don't think it is a Firefox issue, for what it's worth. Could I need
another piece of software not included in the Ubuntu 8.04 install?

If i can send any other diagnosis information, please let me know.

Thank you so much.

Hi Basilio -

Thank you so much for looking at this and providing your results.

I don't think it is a network problem, because I have a separate Windows PC,
with Firefox and can get into all of the sites immediately.

I tried your suggestion of loading Midori. When I go to any of the problem
sites, it just hangs and does nothing.

Since you are able to go to the site, you must have software on your machine
that isn't on mine. Any idea on what else I may have to load in order to
display these pages? The most important one is
www.frontlineplacement.com/education -- my wife uses this for work.

Thank you for all of your help!
