[Bug 1910754] [NEW] package nvidia-340 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/lib/udev/rules.d/71-nvidia.rules', which is also in package nvidia-kernel-common-390 390.141-0ub

2021-01-08 Thread Alexander Norton
Public bug reported:

As I don't really know what the cause of the problem is, all the
information that I can give is that I installed the updates that were
given. Prior to this the graphics were working properly. I can only
access a single screen size and if I try to change it I am told that
Full Screen is not available in this profile which is marked at present,
nvida. if I try to initiate another profile I either get the same
message or that profile is not available. I am sorry that I can give
you no further information but this is all I know.

[Bug 1830473] Re: Does not handle glyphless fonts, as used by tesseract

2019-05-25 Thread sarah norton
What is Norco, and can you buy Norco online?
When you decide to buy Norco online or look for ways to buy Norco online
overnight, you must know everything about the drug before buying it from an
online pharmacy and starting its intake. Norco is a prescription drug
prescribed for the treatment of the pain that requires an opioid medication and
cannot be treated by any other pain medication. The drug contains Hydrocodone
as one of its main components, and, therefore, it is considered a Schedule II
controlled substance. You should also remember if you take the drug in a larger
quantity or take it beyond the prescribed limit, the drug will make a patient
dependent on it for a long time.

[Bug 1750937] Re: 4.4.0-116 Kernel update on 2/21 breaks Nvidia drivers (on 14.04 and 16.04)

2018-02-24 Thread Thomas Norton
Thanks to the instructions posted by @cjjefcoat I was able to get 116 up
and running on my machine. The only difference was that after purging
the toolchain ppa I had to run update-alternatives to get gcc to point
to gcc-5.

[Bug 1750937] Re: 4.4.0-116 Kernel update on 2/21 breaks Nvidia drivers (on 14.04 and 16.04)

2018-02-23 Thread Thomas Norton
I purged the -116 packages and then re-installed them but it didn't
help. What's worse, is that now Unity doesn't work in -112, but
fortunately my Gnome session still works fine.

Here are the commands I executed to reinstall the -116 kernel:
sudo apt-get purge linux-image-4.4.0-116-generic
sudo apt-get purge linux-headers-4.4.0-116-generic
sudo apt-get purge linux-headers-4.4.0-116
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-xenial

My gcc version is 6.3.0-18ubuntu2~16.04

Can someone help?

[Bug 1539206] [NEW] Screen not locked when coming out of suspend/hibernate

2016-01-28 Thread Jesse Norton
Public bug reported:

If I lock my screen with `ctrl`+`alt`+`l` it takes me to the lock
screen. If I then decide to shut my laptop it suspends correctly. When I
reopen my laptop it resumes, but the screen is not locked. It just takes
me back to my desktop without me needing to enter my password, even
though it was locked before it suspended.

I am running Ubuntu 15.10 with lightdm 1.16.6 and unity 7.3.2. My power
settings are set so that when the lid is closed it suspends and "Require
my password when waking from suspend" is checked. The gnome-screensaver

[Bug 1412687] Re: Caffeine 2.8.3 doesn't work automatically for hibernate/suspend mode.

2015-02-20 Thread Benjamin J Norton
This version of caffeine does not work to prevent screen saver or
suspend. The last version that worked for vanilla Ubuntu is 2.6.2 (bzr
559) which I have had to fall back to. Versions after it wouldn't even
run, up until 2.8.3 upon which I was initially pleased to see the
indicator open up when I attempted to run the program, however, it does
not prevent screensaver when initiated manually or automatically.

[Bug 1287171] Re: light-locker breaks x11vnc as service

2014-07-07 Thread Benjamin J Norton
Not sure if this was exactly my problem but I always try to see if someone
already opened a bug.
I was using light locker and when I closed my laptop and opened it again... I
would log back in, the login screen went off but it didn't come back on. I am
guessing that it did log me back in but the screen stayed off.

For me it fixed it to install intel graphics driver via:
https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/2014/intelr-graphics-
installer-1.0.5-linux after installing their driver, light locker works
fine.

[Bug 778543] Re: Evolution mostly (?!) fails to save sent email to IMAPs sent folder - the mail is saved in local folder instead

2014-06-11 Thread Benjamin J Norton
Thanks to the bug report I figured out what I had to do. I didn't know
that I had to change the setting in accounts to use imap folders instead
of local. This was one a few things I didn't like about Evolution but
now it's working. I don't know why the defaults are to use locla folders
when you setup an imap emaill account you obviously want to keep mail on
the server. There are severl settings that I have to remember to change
with Evolution when fresh installing but I love the program. Even better
that Thunderbird.

[Bug 733349] Re: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking its Launcher Icon

2014-01-26 Thread Benjamin J Norton
Mark Shuttleworth is a dick. Linus Torvalds IS Linux, Richard Stallman
IS GNU, Mark Shuttleworth IS a dick. Clicking on a focus's icon should
minimize it. Period. If if were not so, no one would be scratching their
head wondering why some dumbass is telling us how prominent the minimize
button is (which is, for some reason, on the opposite site of the window
header from where it's always been) Sometimes you should let people have
what they want instead of only getting what you like Mark.

[Bug 1075792] Re: Slow Unity 3D performance in 12.10 Quantal Quetzal

2013-01-21 Thread Benjamin J Norton
I'm not sure if this is a problem or not. I believe it may just be the
delay while it is getting content and links from the internet. I toggle
off the search online and then it's fine. Not quite as quick as Precise
Pangolin but it doesn't have the crazy long delay... I like the online
results though, so I re-enabled and am going to deal with it.

[Bug 1077561] [NEW] flash movies won't leave fullscreen mode with esc key

Public bug reported:

When watching flash movies I click on the full screen button it displays
a message saying to leave full screen hit the escape key, however it
doesn't immediately to this, it requires clicking on the screen,
sometimes multiple times, then hitting escape in order to get the flash
movie to successfully leave full screen mode.

[Bug 1077267] [NEW] Setting language localization doesn't set system-wide

2012-11-09 Thread Benjamin J Norton
Public bug reported:

I am running Precise 64 bit... when I install and set localization to US
English it doesn't set language system wide.. by that I mean Thunderbird
uses Australian English dictionary, Firefox initially uses British
English and other applications, Drivel for example will continue to use
other English language dictionary (not sure which one but it likes
favourite not favorite). I know that I can go from application to
application changing them all but it really is wasteful to have to do
so... I don't understand why at install time your language selection
cannot do this. Also, in regards to Drivel, it will continue to use
other English unless I delete all other language packs from
/usr/share/hunspell/ and these other languages seem to come back every
time Firefox upgrades. This is very frustrating. I refuse to believe
that it is not possible to have the install process language settings
respected system wide.

[Bug 982485] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver

I installed the latest 295.49 drivers and I now have no gui at all. I
can only use command line on any tty[1-6] apart from tty7. When I switch
to tty7 I see some login reports (e.g. mountall: Disconnected from

no keyboard response. I have to switch to another tty to interact with
my laptop.

[Bug 980476] Re: privacy settings do not prevent activity logging

2012-04-26 Thread Benjamin J Norton
I see now that I was wrong about privacy not preventing logging... When
I set privacy to off so that it will not log activity it does indeed
stop activity from being logged as far as what files I have viewed and
what applications I have recently used... The problem I see is basically
only related to Movie Player... which continues to show what I have
watched after closing Movie Player and reopening... the movies/videos
are still listed... Is there something else I have to do to get Movie
Player to respect privacy settings... or is it not intended to control
Movie Player??

One thing to consider is that the Optiplex 390 Small Form Factor
motherboard may be different than the other members of the series. I
just got a SFF, and could not load 11.04 (no media found), but I was
able to load 10.04.

[Bug 439448] Re: notification area shows wrong icons. erratic behaviour

2009-12-13 Thread norton
Ubuntu 9.10, amd64, clean install. Had this exact problem on two machines, one
had nvidia, the other amd,
so it's not a graphics card problem. If it's a problem with a stuffed config
file, then it's getting that way either
by default, or when I've customized my panels. It's a bug, someone fix it
please.

[Bug 462169] Re: nmbd dies on startup when network interfaces are not up yet

2009-12-06 Thread norton
I just wanted to add what I know.

On a Celeron D 2.53, 650i, 4 GB, I did not have this issue, or at least I
didn't notice it.
When I switched over to AMD X2 4800+, 780G, 2 GB, I began to experience this
issue.

For what it's worth, if I reboot warm, the issue only occurs about half the
time.
If I reboot from cold (power off and or AC all the way off), it reproduces
itself reliably.

The 0.0.0.0 address listed in the log someone provided earlier looks like a
clue.
So just for fun I set the network from DHCP to Manual fixed static IP, and now
several
totally cold boots later, nmbd runs OK all by itself without needing anyone to
hold its hand.

It's not a perfect solution, especially if you have lots of PCs to
manage, but for me it's fine.

My guess is that on a faster CPU maybe with multiple cores, there is a
serialization issue
where nmbd gives up just before DHCP has successfully set the IP address. I'm
just guessing
based on the single-core machine not really having this issue.

Thanks, btw, for the great OS, I shall not ever buy windoze again.

I would suspect you have accidentally pressed the Insert key on your
keyboard. Tap it again and see if that corrects the problem.

dragboxes are left after any attempt to select multiple icons.

This is a fresh install of Hardy release candidate on a Dell Optiplex 745
desktop. No problem during the installation, even though at the end the
system didn't reboot. It got stuck at the eject CD and press Enter screen.
However, first boot failed. The system froze with a blank screen when the
gdm login should appear. Booting in rescue mode and choosing resume normal
booting worked. However, the system freezes when the gdm login should appear
after logging out, and when restarting the computer (I get some network
manager stuff, the splash screen reappears, and nothing happens). Suspend to
ram and resume works. I tried booting normally several times, and sometimes
 it works, sometimes it freezes.

The only unusual message I found in the logs is this:
 gdm[5561]: segfault at 0800 eip b77254c7 esp bfe65568 error 4

The graphic card is Intel 82Q963/Q965 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev

There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-

 test.

 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer

Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the

spending an hour trying to figure out why knetworkmanager randomly decided
not to see my wifi card after months of proper behavior, I found a bugreport

[Bug 220135] Re: Hard lock booting/logging out/restarting [Q965]

2008-07-24 Thread David Norton
I just had it lock directly after logging in, too. Also using kernel
2.6.24.19 and intel driver package 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu13.4.

The lock-on-login occurred after I did a hard shutdown because it locked
(same lock) after idling.

Sorry, I don't know any way to reproduce it (though I know it's happened
at least once before), and the logs have probably been overwritten by
now.

windows OS and they use software for file sharing
that overload the connection (there is a 100MBs connection).
I can't modify any setting of the network and the switch because is not mine,
the property is an Hostello and there'isnt any sysAdmin.
I have looked the log files (that i attach) to find some info, the message
found before any crash was everytime like this:

Jul 8 21:35:20 fulvio-laptop dhcdbd: message_handler: message handler not
found under /com/redhat/dhcp/eth0 for sub-path eth0.dbus.get.host_name
Jul 8 21:35:20 fulvio-laptop dhcdbd: message_handler: message handler not
found under /com/redhat/dhcp/eth0 for sub-path eth0.dbus.get.nis_domain
Jul 8 21:35:20 fulvio-laptop dhcdbd: message_handler: message handler not
found under /com/redhat/dhcp/eth0 for sub-path eth0.dbus.get.nis_servers
Jul 8 21:35:20 fulvio-laptop dhcdbd: message_handler: message handler not
found under /com/redhat/dhcp/eth0 for sub-path eth0.dbus.get.interface_mtu

The provided logs file are picked from the log viewer of gnome.
For example you can look in the logs file attached for the crashes of 21:37
8/Jul/08 22:09 del 8/Jul/08 22:17 del 8/Jul/08 22:42 del 8/Jul/08

The problem happens everytime i use the internet connection. Everything is
perfect when i use kernel 2.6.22-14-generic (the kernel of ubuntu 7.10) (see
provided kernelUse.txt file where you can find my menu.lst og grub)
i haven't modified or recomipiled the kernel.

On 13 jul i have installled all the available updates with the update manager,
but the problem is the same.

I have also tried to modify the timeout and retry entry in my
dhcp3_client.conf , but the problem is the same.
If you have some idea email me: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Thanks!!

[Bug 249208] Re: Change Nice to Priority in System Monitor

2008-07-16 Thread David Norton
Shouldn't the value in the 'nice' column change as well?

A 'niceness' of -20 has the highest priority, but that doesn't make any
sense if you don't know what 'nice' means in Unix terms.

Maybe you could turn it into a percentage, with nice -20 being 100%
priority, and nice 19 being 0% priority

Well, it says Totem, but the fact that it also occurs in VLC makes it

[Bug 249267] Re: cannot update ubuntu

2008-07-16 Thread David Norton
It looks like the update-manager is finding the word sudo in the
source list (at /etc/apt/sources.list) and choking on it (That's not
normally something it finds there).

Perhaps you can edit it yourself with a text editor. If you post your
/etc/apt/sources.list, I could try to walk you through it.

[Bug 249267] Re: cannot update ubuntu

2008-07-16 Thread David Norton
Since I believe the problem can be traced to a corrupted sources.list
file and the user reports no problems after a reinstall, I think this
can be labeled as a non-issue.

Here's how my .mailcap file looked originally, before I modified it:

/home/anorton/downloads/jdk1.5.0_12/jre/bin/javaws %s

I've attached the output of dpkg -l | grep '^i'.

[Bug 221746] Re: Assigning storage space fails if acceleration enabled

2008-05-01 Thread Peter C. Norton
mshu, it will fail when selecting OS type == unix and subtype ==
solaris10, and probably others, too. That's just what I ran into.

I'm using the package from -proposed, and it also fixes the problem for
me.

Thanks,

-Peter

[Bug 206864] Re: Unable to set max_cstate on hardy kernel

2008-04-26 Thread Alan Norton
FYI, passing the kernel boot param 'processor.max_cstate=2' will work ONLY if
you have the ACPI Processor compiled into the kernel (aka NOT as a module).
Recompiling the kernel with CONFIG_ACPI_PROCESSOR=y will allow you to set the
max_cstate upon boot.

This is probably not an acceptable solution for the majority of users,
but it is a workaround.

[Bug 206864] Re: Unable to set max_cstate on hardy kernel

2008-04-25 Thread Alan Norton
Setting 'options processor max_cstate=2' in /etc/modprobe.d/options did
not solve the issue on Dell D420.

I'm going to be compiling a custom kernel for TuxOnIce anyway. Does
anyone have any idea what kernel options I might try to get rid of the
noise or expose the processor options in
/sys/module/processor/parameters/?
