Hi Micheal,

Any update on the logs shared. Also, from the jounalctl logs shared
looks like the checksum for linux packages are not matching as shown
below from 'journalctl' logs.

Hi Micheal,

Still, we are able to repro the issue on 16G with latest build
https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/daily-live/pending/.

Please find the crash files generated during installation failure occurs
and dmesg logs for further analysis. Also, when Installation fails
'sosreport' is not generating when we execute the command 'sosreport' on
the shell.

[Bug 2058191] Re: Getting SIGSEGV and SIGILL in many programs

2024-03-20 Thread Eduardo P. Gomez
Reading my crash dump, i noticed a interesting thing. Here is the back
trace:

Downloading separate debug info for system-supplied DSO at 0x7ffe5ecc5000

Core was generated by `/opt/brave.com/brave/brave --type=renderer
--crashpad-handler-pid=5837 --enable'.

Program terminated with signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
#0 0x58e16cb3b49e in ?? ()
[Current thread is 1 (LWP 1)]
(gdb) bt
#0 0x58e16cb3b49e in ?? ()
#1 0x7ffe5ec93780 in ?? ()
#2 0x in ?? ()

The first backtrace is located inside the brave binary as (gdb) info proc
mappings says:
Mapped address spaces:

Start Addr End Addr Size Offset objfile
   [...]
  0x58e16bb4b000 0x58e1778ad000 0xbd62000 0x2e1c000
/opt/brave.com/brave/brave
   [...]

The second backtrace doesn't show in the mapped address list. But as the
previous output says it's related to a "system-supplied DSO". I Googled
it and a guy named fche on stackoverflow said "system-supplied-DSO means
a shared library provided directly by the linux kernel such as VDSO". Is
this right?

If that's true, does this mean we have a big kernel issue?

[Bug 2058191] Re: Getting SIGSEGV and SIGILL in many programs

2024-03-19 Thread Eduardo P. Gomez
In dmesg log, i saw a line starting with "mar 20 02:04:10 eduapps
whoopsie-upload-all[8574]" which was written by whoopsie that gave me a
brave crash log.

brave crash log is big but gives good info of what's going on. if you
search for the word "SIGSEGV" you will find where the error occurs.

I will check other versions. I think the 6.5 might be working

I can try as many kernels as you want. Just give me some time to get
back home.

23.10 was working alright, but I don't remember which kernel I was using
in this version.

[Bug 2058191] [NEW] Getting SIGSEGV and SIGILL in many programs

2024-03-17 Thread Eduardo P. Gomez
Public bug reported:

Okay, recently I upgraded to 24.04. I'm getting some SIGSEGV and SIGILLs
from time to time. Sometimes the entire computer freezes and i can't
even turn down unless i hold the power button for 5 secs.

I tought it could be the kernel version, so I upgraded from Ubuntu's
6.8.0-11.11+1 to mainline 6.8.1. However, it didn't fix.

Here are some softwares i got SIGSEGV or SIGILLs:
 - code-insiders (vscode)
 - brave (Brave browser)
 - bun (node.js alternative)
 - node.js

I know i should upload more logs, but I didn't find the errors in syslog
or journalctl.

is there a mean to get the lpr command generated somewhere ?

[Bug 1893302] Re: SDDM freezes on system boot

2024-02-28 Thread Hans P . Möller
currently testing this, I will update as soon as I have another issue or
when enough time have passed without

create a custom file: snap-apps.sh
In directory ~/.config/plasma-workspace/env
In the file write down:

export XDG_DATA_DIRS="$XDG_DATA_DIRS:/var/lib/snapd/desktop/"

Save the file and make it executable with:
sudo chmod +x snap-apps.sh

[Bug 1968887] Re: Save As Dialog Box does not get focus in Ubuntu 22.04

2022-05-26 Thread Ulrich P. Klein
Same problem here with google-chrome-stable 101.0.4951.64-1 and firefox (snap)
100.0.2-1
I'm using ubuntu 22.04, cinnamon 5.2.7-4, mutter 42.0-3ubuntu2.

Which is even more annoying: When I change the directory, sometimes the
file is not saved at all. This is repoducible for some directories,
ohters work. No rule found up to now

This makes the save dialogue fairly unusable.

[Bug 1849084] Re: Freeze on system-resume caused by kwin and amdgpu driver

2022-03-22 Thread P. B.
After 23 months without this Standby/Resume bug, it has now reappeared - See
#30 above
System; Lenovo V155-15API (V155 Series)
Processor; AMD Ryzen 5 3500U
Graphics adapter; AMD Radeon RX Vega 8
Memory; 12288 MB (Windows partition)

Dual booting Windows 10 & Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS (Ubuntu being main OS on separate
partition)
Bug present under both Ubuntu & Windows
In Windows I once again ran the AMD Driver Auto-detect tool & let it install
the drivers it detected as needed or needing updating. This fixed the problem
in April 2020 but it has had no effect in 2022.

In the Windows partition Lenovo want to install a BIOS upgrade, but I'm
concerned about possible effect on the dual boot.

[Bug 1960947] Re: Graphical issues for GtKGL in software rendering

2022-02-16 Thread J-P Nurmi
I can confirm that libgtk-3-0 3.24.20-0ubuntu1.1 from focal-proposed
fixes the rendering issue.

I have tested with:

1) the attached minimal test case:

gcc -o testcase testcase.c `pkg-config --cflags --libs gtk+-3.0`
./testcase

2) a full-blown flutter app:

snap install --classic flutter
flutter config --enable-linux-desktop
flutter create test_app
cd test_app
flutter run

[Bug 1960947] Re: Graphical issues for GtKGL in software rendering

2022-02-16 Thread J-P Nurmi
Hi all. The conditions for reproducing the issue: CSD + OpenGL + swrast.

Notice that the GTK GL example doesn't use CSD i.e. it doesn't set a
custom GtkWindow titlebar. I have attached a small test case that
reproduces the issue.

[Bug 1948928] [NEW] plasma-discover unable to open temporary cache

2021-10-27 Thread Hans P . Möller
Public bug reported:

When runing plasma-discover it can't open temporary cache and show installed or
available for installation apt package. When running in console output is:

when using Qt HiDPI scaling.

** (process:19673): CRITICAL **: 08:00:47.395: Unable to open temporary
cache: Unable to open temporary cache file: Permission denied

Running with sudo solve the issue but is not recomended.

This happens in a Kubuntu 21.10 updated from 21.04 in which plasma-discover was
working w/o problems.
Also happens in Lubuntu 21.10 updated from 21.04 in which plasma-discover was
also working.
In both 21.10 installation muon is working w/o problems (w/o need of sudo) so
it doesn't appear to be a cache problem.

[Bug 1878279] Re: MSFT0004:00 06CB:CD98 Touchpad/trackpad mouse randomly not recognized from any given boot

2021-09-22 Thread Petteri P
I am not sure what has happened with my Ideapad 5-14ARE05 laptop, but it
just seems that this problem has disappeared. I assume some update fixed
it finally.

I running 5.11.0-34-generic #36~20.04.1-Ubuntu

I have many other problems with the machine such as it does not suspend
when the lid is closed and behaves strangely with my bluetooth headset.
This laptop with Linux has really worn me out...

[Bug 1877038]

2021-08-20 Thread Z-paul-p
(In reply to Neha Kochar [:neha] from comment #11)

> Sorry for the delay in getting this finished. We don't currently have
anyone available to work on this. We will prioritize this as soon as we
can. Windows works because of the work in Bug 1508115.

I appreciate the work that you guys for free and I understand that
resources are tight. Is there some way we could provide some financial
support to address this specific issue?

How can Firefox claim to be all about Privacy, Security and Speed when
it doesn't support the greatest improvement we have ever had to all of
those things when it comes to logins? I expected Firefox to be the
very first to get this working, not the last.

Again, I do really appreciate what the developers do but I really think
that this issue deserves to be a top priority and I'm sure there are
plenty of people who would be willing to fund it.

[Bug 1481835]

2021-07-07 Thread 8-mail-p
Code pointers:

- All CLICK and SHIFT+CLICK operations for grouping Drawing objects
handled in ./sw/source/uibase/docvw/edtwin.cxx:2770 :
https://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/sw/source/uibase/docvw/edtwin.cxx?r=216a43bc#2770

- SHIFT+CLICK occurs in:
https://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/sw/source/uibase/docvw/edtwin.cxx?r=216a43bc#3470

- Select objects : SwFEShell::SelectObj:
https://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/sw/source/core/frmedt/feshview.cxx?r=715797bc#177

- Marked object list:
https://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/include/svx/svdmark.hxx?r=40595834#230

- Types of forms of content:
https://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/sw/inc/editsh.hxx?r=1feb59c3#130

- Mark object:
https://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/svx/source/svdraw/svdmrkv.cxx?r=8a850eed#1877

You can read the full-detailed blog post of my 2-week research on this
bug: https://bayramcicek.com.tr/libreoffice-
dev/2021/07/05/week-03-04-gsoc.html

(I don't want to write everything in the blog post here because it's too
long), just want to point out:

All selected objects store in rMrkList list:
const SdrMarkList  = pDView->GetMarkedObjectList();

Output of SAL_DEBUG( rMrkList.GetMarkDescription() ); (in
SwFEShell::SelectObj):

For shapes: "shapes"
For 2+ shapes: "2 shapes"
For draw images: "Image with transparency"
For text box: "Text Frame"
For raster images: "[Drawing object]" (defined as #define STR_ObjNameSingulNONE)

rMrkList.GetMarkCount(); always increases by 1 when selecting drawing objects
via SHIFT+CLICK. But always gives 1 when selecting raster images because
pOldSelFly = ::GetFlyFromMarked( , this ); always return an address
and this causes rMrkList doesn’t add the second selected raster image to itself
and do unmark it.
(if we force rMrkList to add raster images to itself by removing the
pDView->UnmarkAll() line, this time, debugging warns "warn: /*...*/ frame is
not accessible." )

I don't understand why images handled different in Writer and
Draw/Calc/Impress.

IMHO, should we get rid of writer-images and convert them into drawing
objects as like in the Draw? Otherwise, from my point of view, it seems
a bit complicated to group raster images and raster What do you
think?

Thanks.

2021-06-19 Thread Petteri P
Regarding my previous post what happened is that the touchpad started to
work again out of the blue. Before this the system had difficulties to
shutdown. The shutdwown process lasted for minutes and during that the
system displayed a message "i2c_designware AMDI0010:00: controller times
out". This lasted for a long time. So long that I had time to take a
photo of it which is attached.

Eventually the system managed to shutdown and now I that I turned on the
system the touchpad works again. Bizarre.

[Bug 1878279] Re: MSFT0004:00 06CB:CD98 Touchpad/trackpad mouse randomly not recognized from any given boot

2021-06-17 Thread Petteri P
Thanks for the instructions. So I added the line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash pci=nocrs" and updated grub. I
rebooted the machine at least five times and the touchpad never worked -
I had to use an external mouse. This is a bit different in a sense that
this seems to be consistent whereas usually the touchpad completely
randomly works every now and then.

I think I will keep the settings as they are just to see if the touchpad
randomly starts to work again. I mean the position of the moon might
have an effect on this ;-)

Let me know if I can be of any help in further testing.

Btw, my kernel was just updated to 5.8.0-55-generic.

have very little knowledge in this area. I am running Lenovo Ideapad 5

As an example regarding 3/4 where exactly should I add the "pci=nocrs"
or regarding 4/4 what should I replace "" in order to run the

[Bug 1902836] Re: package firmware-b43-installer 1:019-4 failed to install/upgrade: installed firmware-b43-installer package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2021-05-25 Thread Dagmar P
It seems to be the same bug.
I got WiFi again by blocking/blacklist all WLan-drivers (the b43 packages ...)
except STA-packages.
But with every update process, daily, it tries to update/install the
b43-firmware. That takes long, and gives back an error report every time.

[Bug 1922893] Re: virtualbox modules fail to build on hirsute for kernel 5.11

2021-05-22 Thread Hans P . Möller
@mrvanes could you please give mre info on how to do it?
In understand that there is a modificaton to do in
/var/lib/dkms/virtualbox/6.1.18/source/vboxdrv/SUPDrvTracer.c

but "...add the following immediately preceding the indirect jump at
SUPR0TracerFireProbe..." doesn't is clear enough for me, and also wich is the
best way to "reinstall" virtualbox-dkms w/o a new download that would uno the
changes in the file
Thanks!

loading the parsing the entire package dependency graph repeatedly once

[Bug 1921156] Re: cannot upgrade kernel on ssd booting raspberry pi 3b

2021-03-25 Thread P Sampson
Yes, thanks for this. Even whilst posting I had the feeling it would be
something like that because of a similar wobbly installing the 64bit
ubuntu on a pi 4, when followed with ssd transfer.

Probably due to /boot/firmware not being a thing for ubuntu generally
but only for raspberry pis? I think there's possibly a dodgy article out
there - with a script to automate the job of moving to ssd - which used
to be applicable (before /boot/firmware was introduced) but is no longer
so? Which is a shame because it was only somebody trying to be helpful.

So the relevant fstabbery

/dev/sda1 on /boot/firmware type vfat
(rw,relatime,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,codepage=437,iocharset=ascii,shortname=mixed,errors
=remount-ro)

and kernelimgconfity

do_symlinks = yes
do_bootloader = no
link_in_boot = yes

being restored to 'normal' (for a pi) fixes everything. I daresay there
may be some unsettled dust remaining in the /boot and /boot/firmware
directories but the kernel installation does seem to do an awful lot of
backing up and maybe tidying up is part of it.

Thanks again.

[Bug 1921156] [NEW] cannot upgrade kernel on ssd booting raspberry pi 3b

2021-03-24 Thread P Sampson
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
Release:20.04

linux-image-5.4.0-1029-raspi:
  Installed: 5.4.0-1029.32
  Candidate: 5.4.0-1029.32
  Version table:
 *** 5.4.0-1029.32 500
500 http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports focal-updates/main armhf
Packages
500 http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports focal-security/main armhf
Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I gather it's something to do with /boot partition having to be vfat and
you cannot do symlinks there. But I don't know what to do about it.
There was some post about editing /etc/kernel-img.conf but all that
seemed to do was to kick the problem down the road to where a different
link couldn't be made.

This is on an ssd-booting system with mounts
/dev/sda2 on / type ext4 (rw,noatime)
/dev/sda1 on /boot type vfat
(rw,relatime,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,codepage=437,iocharset=ascii,shortname=mixed,errors=remount-ro)

and the altered kernel-img.conf file is, currently:
do_symlinks = no
do_bootloader = no
link_in_boot = no

2021-03-10 Thread P Sampson
Slightly confusing as there appear to be two tickets about this in my 'area',
both with the
same id (#1915409), one tagged just 'Ubuntu' and the other tagged 'Ubuntu
Groovy' and both
referring to raspi4 64bit, both posted on same day (presumably when I'd been
checking the
installation and my reacting to error popups whilst desktop was starting -
seems likely more
than once).

I'm happy to say that this installation failure of linux-image-5.8.0-1015-raspi
5.8.0-1015.18
has gone away and that the apt update/upgrade is no longer seeing any of this.

However, I'm getting something similar on an almost contemporaneous install of
raspi3 32bit
focal-fossa which is not going away. Turns up every time I update/upgrade.

[dots]
Setting up linux-image-5.4.0-1029-raspi (5.4.0-1029.32) ...
Failed to create symlink to vmlinuz-5.4.0-1029-raspi: Operation not permitted

dpkg: error processing package linux-image-5.4.0-1029-raspi (--configure):

[dots]
Errors were encountered while processing:
 linux-image-5.4.0-1029-raspi
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
[end]

I gather it's something to do with /boot partition having to be vfat and you
cannot do
symlinks there. But I don't know what to do about it. There was some post about
editing
/etc/kernel-img.conf but all that seemed to do was to kick the problem down the
road to
where a different link couldn't be made.

Anyway, that's a different issue - and not your problem :)

No dialog box conveniently pops up (to allow a bug report to be posted) whilst
booting
as it's a headless server! All I've got is google :(.

[Bug 1809972] Re: Samsung SSD 750 EVO doesn't support queued TRIM command

2021-02-24 Thread Gregory P Smith
This also happens on the brand new Samsung 870 EVO.

And based on https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=203475 and
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=201693 a variety of other
Samsung 8* devices on a wide variety of SATA controllers (it doesn't
seem controller related).

At the very least, the upstream change
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=ca6bfcb2f6d9deab3924bf901e73622a94900473
is wrong and really needs to be rolled back... And adjusted further
given this issue was filed for a 750 which that change didn't even
cover.

The patch attached to this issue does exactly that.

Distros should patch that change out in their kernels.

[Bug 1913061] [NEW] systemd-coredump not available for systemd 245.4-4ubuntu3.2

2021-01-25 Thread Georg P
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I am trying to install systemd-coredump, but it fails with the following
error message:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 systemd-coredump : Depends: systemd (= 245.4-4ubuntu3)
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Following discussion on my question i am opening a bug report (link to
question:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+question/695171)

As far as i understand i have a version of systemd for which no systemd-
coredump exists (or is at least not specified). It seems like this
wasn't necessary for many users that had an older version of systemd-
coredump installed and simply held the older package, but leads to this
error if systemd-coredump has not been previously installed.

Thanks a lot,
Georg

echo -n ":0a:00.0" | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/unbind
sleep 5
echo -n ":0a:00.0" | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/bind

[Bug 1873439] Re: Logitech BRIO webcam fails with "xhci_hcd 0000:02:00.0: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD ep_index 2 comp_code 13"

2021-01-14 Thread Tais P. Hansen
I have a similar issue with my Logitech Brio. Used with Google Meet I
can usually get through one meeting after which the webcam hangs and the
camera light stays on, even through a reboot. A combination of
unplugging, rebooting and replugging seems to be necessary to recover
it.

The webcam has the newest firmware (2.4).

I have it connected to an ASMedia controller as well.

0a:00.0 USB controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1042A USB 3.0 Host
Controller (prog-if 30 [XHCI])

Moving it to a different port on the same controller does not fix it, so
presumably the controller crashes. Moving it to a different controller
seems to work.

00:14.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 9 Series Chipset Family USB
xHCI Controller (prog-if 30 [XHCI])

Note that this is a fairly recent issue for me. I have not always had
the issue. I suspect the upgrade from Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04 or a recent
kernel update is where this issue started appearing.
