[Bug 1624765] Re: wifi broke after 16.04 upgrade
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I upgraded from ubuntu 14.04 LTS to ubuntu 16.04 LTS. My wifi was working fine in previous version. But, after upgrade wifi broke. It won't show any wifi networks and I couldn't enable wifi from ubuntu panel on top right corner. I tried almost all suggestions in this page and few other askubuntu pages with same problem: http://askubuntu.com/questions/62166/siocsifflags-operation-not-possible-due-to-rf-kill But, nothing worked. Here is my console output: ~$ sudo rfkill list 0: dell-rbtn: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: yes Hard blocked: yes 1: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 7: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no Then, I ran "sudo rfkill unblock wifi" but that didn't fix anything. Finally, the only thing that worked was: sudo modprobe -r dell-rbtn I don't even know if this is the right way to fix it. [Bug 1624765] Re: wifi broke after 16.04 upgrade
After upgrade, my hardware switch for wifi (accessed by Fn + function key) stopped working. But, all other function keys to control display brightness, volume, mute have been working fine. There are some pages on askubuntu.com which discuss the same problem that I have. But, they talk about re-installing broadcom drivers, etc. I checked mine and I seem to have a qualcomm device instead of broadcom. See below: ~$ lspci -vnn | grep Network 06:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 / AR9565 Wireless Network Adapter [168c:0036] (rev 01) Subsystem: Dell QCA9565 / AR9565 Wireless Network Adapter [1028:020c] -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1624765 Title: wifi broke after 16.04 upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1624765/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1624765] [NEW] wifi broke after 16.04 upgrade
Public bug reported: I upgraded from ubuntu 14.04 LTS to ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Please fix the 16.04 kernel and OS upgrade package so that other users don't face this problem that cost me 2 days. Thank you. [Bug 906643] [NEW] ls hangs after using sshfs mount on a sub-directory
Public bug reported: Using lucid LTS on both client and server machines. Recently, I installed fuse and did mount on sshfs in a sub-directory in my home directory. Here was the command: sshfs -o idmap=user my-user-on-remote@tagz-2:/ /home/my-user-name/tagmount/ After this ls on the sub-dir tagmount worked and I could see files from server. But, after weekend when I again tried to do ls or used konqueror to see files in that dir they both keep hanging. Even ls ~ keeps hanging and even Ctrl-C cannot kill it. I just had to do kill -9. strace shows hanging on stat64 on the sshfs mount directory. I saw Bug #264313 which is similar but the work-around specified there doesn't work for me. I think neither this nor Bug #264313 should be closed. These should be considered high priority bugs as nothing should hang without recourse. In the meantime, please let me know if there is any work-around. I am still unable to do ls or use dolphin in the home dir. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: sshfs ** Tags added: sshfs -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/906643 Title: ls hangs after using sshfs mount on a sub-directory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/906643/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 857816] Re: X fails to start on boot
No longer able to reproduce - there was a BIOS update meanwhile - not sure if that fixed it or updated packages. I do however see a separate issue - lightdm just brings up the cursor - in the background the VT is still there and keyboard keys produce gibberish but I realize that's a different issue - will open a new one for that. [Bug 314813] Re: root user consuming more power.
Battery preferences in both the scenarios are same. Conky is running in both sessions. With the age of the laptop, now the gap between battery backup available in normal user session and root user session has increased and is some where around 15-20 minutes. Thus normal user still continues to provide more backup. [Bug 314813] Re: root user consuming more power.
Firefox was opened as I was posting the reply on the bug from user 'root'. In general when I freshly login as root I get starting backup of 1 Hour 10 Minutes. If I immediately switch user to normal user I get around - 1 Hour 25 minutes So I don't think Firefox made any major difference. [Bug 362678] [NEW] KDE4 NetWorkManager Unusably buggy
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: knetworkmanager So I tried to use Kubuntu Jaunty RC LiveCD on 3 different machines and 2 different Access Points and KDE4 NetWorkManager failed horribly - HP Mini (Broadcom WL module was loaded automatically) , HP 6910p (Intel 4965AGN) , Macbook Pro2,2 (ath9k). Clicking on the SSID of my wireless network resulted in add network dialog first. After adding all the details, it was followed by 2 more unexplainable dialogs asking for the same network credentials. Upon entering the credentials and clicking OK instantly there was a notification that connecting to the network had failed. This whole sequence was repeated each time I clicked on the SSID in list. Opening the Manage Connections dialog - I found that same network was added for as many times I had attempted to click on the SSID! Selecting and removing the network resulted in blank screen - no VT switch possible, no other interaction possible. Had do hard reboot. I dared to do the installation on the Macbook Pro and the on-disk install and this time around I was able to connect after going through a similar sequence for few times but it constantly lost connection to the AP and spewed warnings about having active connection but an empty connection list or something like that. (The lost connections are due to ath9k I am fairly certain - that got relatively better after upgrading the kernel to 2.6.30-rc2 but the speeds were horrible - will file another issue for that.) Re: [Bug 267241] Re: Xorg fails to start with more than one display adapter
On Fri, Mar 6, 2009 at 9:34 PM, Bryce Harrington br...@bryceharrington.org wrote: I've done some analysis into this bug (as well as a number of other related dual-card bugs) this week. This patch changes the behavior such that when it gets into this error condition, rather than giving up and erroring out, it should make X select the card with the highest busid. The use case I'm imagining here is where a user is having problems with their on-board video and have purchased a second card to override it. Don't know whether that use case is a good match to folks' issues here, so am open to discussion on that. Correct me if I am wrong but I *think* that would not be the most common use case - in case of machines having built-in video and a discrete card, the BIOS completely disables one of them depending on what is chosen in BIOS. (At least the HP desktop I had did this - it had Intel GMA on-board and when I put in a nv 8400 GS - I was allowed to choose one - the other was completely 'gone' for the OS). (I have no idea what the case is with Laptops using 2 cards which allow for runtime switching between low-power / high-power - but since I have heard of no problems with MacBooks which have this feature - I suspect that only one is visible.) Your patch seems like it will pick the last one seen - whether or not it will work obviously depends on whether or not people have connected output to the last one seen by Xorg. The most common case in relation to this issue would be where people actually have 2 discrete cards and BIOS allows one to be set to primary - the second one is still visible to the OS. Figuring out what the BIOS's notion of Primary/Secondary is may be easier I think to determine where to output. I will put the 2nd card back in my workstation and see if I can find any clues. [Bug 279885] [NEW] No Way to correct mount options
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I have a internal sata disk formatted with one single ext3 partition. I click on the volume in Nautilus-Places and it mounts fine. However after mounting I try to incorrectly change the mount options or path - there is no way to correct it once the Properties-Volume window is closed. With the wrong mount options, attempting to mount shows error as expected (although the error message isn't exactly helpful, but that's another bug) - but the Properties menu option is no longer accessible (at least I did not find it anywhere) and thus the volume can never be mounted again. The Properties window should validate the options and force the user to correct the wrong ones or go back to the previous ones before closing / applying them. That way this situation will not arise. Well the options are editable using gconf-editor tool (/system/storage) - they aren't part of fstab and I was able to find the right keys to unset and it can mount now. Re: [Bug 243446] Re: Upgrade tool crashed
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 107188 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/107188 Hello Michael, Thanks for the quick reply and suggestion. Actually, reading bug report on launchpad, I came across the work-around of doing text mode upgrade. Somebody suggested this: Edit DistUpgrade.cfg so that it only tries to do the upgrade in text mode since python can't load the libs for GTK, and QT has the memory issue. So, I followed that and although that also resulted in an error at the end but it seems I could upgrade to gusty. /etc/lsb-release shows gusty as I would have liked. Not sure if the installation is fine in other ways. Are there more robust checks to ensure integrity of upgrade / installation?? By the way, I had a crash while upgrading dictionaries as part of the version upgrade. I am attaching file: /var/crash/dictionaries-common.0.crash Should I file a separate bug on this? Re: [Bug 243446] Re: Upgrade tool crashed
Hello, I have been running ubuntu (I think edgy) 6.04 and I tried to do dist upgrade from Adept Manager. I did see it crash in the middle. But, there are no files in /var/crash. After that I tried to do dist-upgrade twice and both times, it crashed in the middle - but with a slightly different error. Now, I get out of memory error when it crashes. So, I am not able to upgrade and I am stuck at 6.04 (or 6.10). If you could help I will highly appreciate it! I have attached both files in /var/log. Let me know if you need anything else. [Bug 215728] Re: High CPU Consumption
Alexander - your last question was If you see this, please stop any firefox running, backup your urlclassifier3.sqlite from your .mozilla/firefox/... profile. then remove that file from your profile and restart firefox. Does this help? And it was answered 3 times - Chris Coulson (2 times - helped initially but file grew and had the same problem) and Nick B (1 time - did not help any.) Setting it to Confirmed again. ** Changed in: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- High CPU Consumption https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/215728 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
