[Bug 2063813] Re: cloud-init schema validation failure for: 'broadcast' (24.04)

2024-04-26 Thread petski
You can reproduce this by running `cloud-init schema --system` in the
debug shell. As you will see there, it finds that the network-
config.json is invalid (so the cloud-config.txt is valid!)

The server iso [1] uses subiquity version 24.04.1, which has cloud-init
23.4.4-0ubuntu0~22.04.1 built in.

The fix for the issue you're observering is in cloud-init 24.1.1 or
higher [2], as that contains the fix for this issue [3].

Refreshing the installer via a directive in your autoinstall.yaml
wouldn't help, because the schema is invalid, so it doesn't get there...

```
refresh-installer:
  update: true
  channel: latest/edge
```

... however, one could run `snap refresh subiquity
--channel=latest/edge` by hand at the shell prompt after the error
occurs. From there, the install will continue to run.

[Bug 2048921] Re: [SRU] ubuntu-advantage-tools (30 -> 31) Xenial, Bionic, Focal, Jammy, Mantic

2024-03-13 Thread petski
This change has some undesired side effects:

Our PXE installs, which use the autoinstall feature [1], were based on Ubuntu
22.04.0 (the initial release from April 2022).

This base image has ubuntu-advantage-tools 27.7~22.04.1 on board.

During installation, `unattended-upgrades -v` is executed by curtin, which
wants to upgrade to ubuntu-advantage-tools 31.2~22.04

This process end with exitcode 1, probably because ubuntu-advantage-tools is
`kept back because a related package is kept back or due to local
apt_preferences(5)`.

Because `unattended-upgrades` exits with 1, the install bails out.

Ubuntu 22.04.4 - at this moment the latest point release - has a more modern
version of ubuntu-advantage-tools, and we don't see that behavior there, ..
but... The side effect is that a fresh install now results in an install that
(still) needs to do a upgrade:

The following NEW packages will be installed:
  ubuntu-pro-client
The following packages will be upgraded:
  ubuntu-advantage-tools ubuntu-pro-client-l10n
2 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

[Bug 371103] Re: aMSN fails to launch when msntranslator or gnotify plugin is used

2010-02-17 Thread petski
Thanks John.

New patch is available:
 - https://code.launchpad.net/~petski/ubuntu/jaunty/amsn/amsn-fix-371103 or
 - attached to this comment#

 subscribe: ubuntu-universe-sponsors

** Description changed:

+ SRU justification
+ Impact: Users that use certain amsn-plugins (such as the popular gnotify and
msntranslator plugin) can't start amsn.
+ Resolution: With the help of an upstream developer, amsn's upstream
source-code was patched
(http://amsn.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/amsn?view=revrevision=11166). The
debdiff is a backport of that patch.
+ Patch is available:
+  - https://code.launchpad.net/~petski/ubuntu/jaunty/amsn/amsn-fix-371103 or
+  - attached to comment#19
+ TEST CASE: Install the amsn-plugin gnotify or msntranslator and try to
start amsn. Amsn will crash.
+ /SRU justification

[Bug 77980] Re: mtop failed to install (wrong/no password)

2009-09-14 Thread petski
This piece of software is mainly maintained by volunteers in their spare
time. As always, help is more than welcome.

I've made an attempt to fix this bug [1], but this fix wasn't approved
by MOTU [2]. To fix this issue, one should dig into the dbconfig
documentation. The main thing to figure out is how to create a database
user without creating a database, using dbconfig. Indeed, this shouldn't
be too hard. (Maybe you can even look how packages like 'mytop' [3]
resolve this problem)

Therefor, I just removed my assignment for this bug.

[Bug 398102] Re: pppoeconf overwrites DNS server

2009-09-04 Thread petski
When you run pppoeconf it will eventually ask You need at least one
DNS IP address to resolve the normal host names. Normally your provider
sends you addresses of useable servers when the connection is
established. Would you like to add these addresses automatically to the
list of nameservers in your local /etc/resolv.conf file? (recommended).
I wonder what your choice was.

Before you run your test, could you please check if ppp is running (ps
waux | grep ppp)? If it does, please stop it before you re-run your
test.

[Bug 228399] Re: Closing lid results in kernel panic visible on VT-1

2009-09-02 Thread petski
I've disabled the hack in /etc/init.d/hotkey-setup by commenting out
lines 28-36. After I did that I booted with the new kernel.

$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.28-15-generic (bui...@crested) (gcc version 4.3.3 (Ubuntu
4.3.3-5ubuntu4) ) #51-Ubuntu SMP Mon Aug 31 13:39:06 UTC 2009

Closed lid, and no panic :) Good work guys :)

Two remaining questions:
- What happens to LP #157691 ?
- IMHO hotkey-setup needs some extra code as suggested in comment #31 of this
bug

2009-07-10 Thread petski
The patch wasn't in Karmic at the time this bug was created. I can
confirm the patch is Karmic.

The patch isn't in Jaunty, but it would be nice if it can be included.
Don't know how to reproduce the bug and why I was suffering from it,
while others did not (just a guess, but I would expect more simular bugs
if it were the case). Unfortunately, the vlc-developer who created the
patch didn't had the time to explain the root cause to me.

[Bug 228399] Re: Closing lid results in kernel panic visible on VT-1

2009-05-12 Thread petski
As a null-test I've commented out lines 30-34, which contain a
workaround for this bug, in /etc/init.d/hotkey-setup and rebooted to
2.6.28-11-generic, which is currently in jaunty-main. Closing lid caused
a panic again (as expected).

I've installed Andy's amd64 deb's afterwards and rebooted to
2.6.28-13-generic #44~lp228399apw1. Closed lid; no panic this time!

IMHO hotkey-setup needs an extra condition just before line 30 in case
Andy's fix will hit the archive (pseudo-code: if kernel-version
2.6.28-13; then apply workaround).

Thanks for your time and effort Andy! Great job!

[Bug 371103] Re: aMSN fails to launch when msntranslator or gnotify plugin is used

2009-05-07 Thread petski
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Please find the debdiffs for jaunty and karmic attached.

I've build a jaunty version of the package in my PPA. So for those that
can't wait for the SRU or those who want to test the new package:

$ sudo sh -c 'echo deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/petski/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/lp371103.list'
$ sudo sh -c 'echo deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/petski/ppa/ubuntu jaunty
main  /etc/apt/sources.list.d/lp371103.list'
$ sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com
ADC679189D1D1B6701310AA9427DCBF475C3
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade

Please remove /etc/apt/sources.list.d/lp371103.list once SRU has been performed
(status of this bug is Fix Released):
$ sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/lp371103.list

SRU justification: Users that use certain amsn-plugins (such as the
popular gnotify and msntranslator plugin) can't start amsn. With the
help of an upstream developer, amsn's source was patched. The debdiffs
are a backport of that patch.

I managed to reproduce your error in a test-script. Find it attached.

I have the idea that somewhere, somehow, some script does a package
require http, which results in the conflict. Maybe in

[Bug 371103] Re: aMSN fails to launch after upgrading to Jaunty

2009-05-05 Thread petski
Thank you for your bugreport.

There might be an unwanted version of http.tcl somewhere on your
filesystem (in ~/plugins/ ?). Please find all files with the name
http.tcl on your filesystem and send us the output of the command.

 p...@workmate:~$ sudo updatedb
 p...@workmate:~$ locate http.tcl

If there's a version of http.tcl in ~/plugins, please temporary move
it somewhere else to see if that makes a difference. If it does, please
try to figure out where the file comes from and let us know.

If we're not lucky, we need to find out which PATH amsn uses:

- edit the file /usr/share/amsn/amsn with your favorite editor. Since the
file may only be modified by root, please edit it as the root user (i.e.
gksudo gedit /usr/share/amsn/amsn)
- find line 169, which begins with lprepend auto_path [file join utils]
- add these three lines underneath line 169:
   puts $auto_path
   puts $program_dir
   puts $HOME
- save the file
- execute amsn from the commandline again. Wonder what is says. In my case it
says:

 p...@workmate:~$ amsn
 utils utils/linux /home/pet/.amsn/plugins /usr/share/tcltk/tcl8.5 /usr/lib
/usr/local/lib/tcltk /usr/local/share/tcltk /usr/lib/tcltk /usr/share/tcltk
/usr/share/tcltk/tk8.5 /usr/share/tcltk/tk8.5/ttk
 /usr/share/amsn
 /home/pet/.amsn

[Bug 323957] Re: aMSN crashes when sending an offline message

2009-05-05 Thread petski
Hi Niclas, thank you for your bugreport.

Can you please upgrade your version of amsn to the latest version
(currently 0.97.2~debian-2ubuntu2) to see if the bug still occurs?

If you would like to, you can also try out the very latest
(development!) version of amsn [1]. This version is far from stable, but
it might give an indication to see wether upstream already fixed this
issue. If that's not the case, you/we can continue to create a bugreport
upstream [2].

[Bug 175017] Re: Dont let drop smile

2009-05-05 Thread petski
I've tried to reproduce this this on 0.97.2~debian-2ubuntu2. It's
obvious that left-click would insert the smile and that right-click will
give you some configuration. I therefor close this bug.

[Bug 342332] Re: vlc crashes with SIGABRT at startup or when Show Playlist is clicked

2009-04-20 Thread petski
One of the Videolan developers, Jean-Baptiste Kempf, created a patch
which resolves this issue. The contents of the patch can be found at
[1]. I've attached a debdiff against Jaunty's current 0.9.9a-2ubuntu1.
Again, all credits to Jean-Baptiste Kempf.

[Bug 349768] Re: Wakeup timer doesn't work on HP Compaq

2009-04-11 Thread petski
At upstream, it's suggested [1] to set the wakeup timer in a relative
way. I've made a small patch for the suspend_test script (find it
attached), so the wakeup timer is set that way. I reran the suspend_test
script and got positive results for at least test one and two.

Help wanted: This bugid still doesn't have a source package. What should
this be? acpi*, linux* or even checkbox?

[Bug 356310] Re: Candidate revision vlc_0.9.9a-1ubuntu1

2009-04-09 Thread petski
Thanks Ahmed!

I've build Ahmed's package in my PPA [1]. I was hoping it would resolve
LP #342332 [2] (not relevant for this bug, but unfortunately it didn't).
For those who are interested, the buildlogs of the build can be found
here: amd64 [3], lpia [4], i386 [5].

For those willing to test the package Ahmed provided, please follow
instructions on how to enable my PPA [6].

[Bug 342332] Re: vlc crashes with SIGABRT at startup

2009-04-09 Thread petski
Someone provided a package for vlc 0.9.9a (See LP #356310). I've tried
to see if the new vlc version would resolve this bug, but unfortunately
it didn't. When I go to Playlist - Show Playlist, the program still
crashes with SIGABRT.

Attached it the dpatch I've used to patch the package provided in LP
#356310. The patch resolves this bug.

[Bug 349768] Re: Wakeup timer doesn't work on HP Compaq

2009-03-29 Thread petski
** Summary changed:

+ Wakeup timer doesn't work on HP Compaq

** Description changed:

  As requested on ubuntu-devel-announce [1] I've performed the
  suspend_test --full test. Unfortunately, the first test fails. In this
  test, the laptop is suspended and a wakeup-timer is set up. The wakeup-
  timer doesn't do what it's supposed to do and my laptop will only come
  back alive when I press the power button.

+ * My laptop is a HP Compaq 6710b
  * In #307090 it's suggested to boot with hpet=disable, which makes no
difference in my case.
  * It looks like http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12013#c33 is
related.
  * See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/SuspendResumeTesting/Feedback |
grep 6710b as well.
