[Bug 1571506] Re: update-initramfs won't include firmware in /lib/firmware/updates

2020-04-29 Thread Qiang Yu
This is for the convenience of user who uses custom firmware and company
who deploy updated firmware. Without the /lib/firmware/updates
directory, if user want to use custom firmware, he has to replace the
/lib/firmware files or create a directory for each kernel version.

[Bug 1291341] Re: tahr /var/log/syslog missing

2016-07-08 Thread James Qiang
I just installed a fresh 14.04 and had the same problem. After comparing
it with another working host, I found the difference in the /var/log
directory ownership and permission

on working host:

% ls -ld /var/log/
drwxrwxr-x 14 root syslog 4096 Jul  8 06:25 /var/log/

on the problem host:

% ls -ld /var/log/
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Jul  9 01:40 /var/log/

/etc/rsyslog.conf writes file with syslog user and adm group but the
/var/log dir is not writable.

It's working ok after I have fix the ownership/permission problem.

[Bug 1587265] Re: ubuntu not work with tickless kernel boot option

2016-05-31 Thread Kai Qiang Wu(Kennan)
I could not run it, as

test@test-ThinkCentre-M92P:~$ apport-collect 1587265
ERROR: connecting to Launchpad failed: [Errno 110] Connection timed out
You can reset the credentials by removing the file
"/home/test/.cache/apport/launchpad.credentials"

and also I am not sure if that report could collect sensitive info from
my system or not, so I could not upload such log now.

I think the description is clear, so mark it confirmed now,
Let me know if have other ways to collect logs. Thanks

[Bug 1587265] [NEW] ubuntu not work with tickless kernel boot option

2016-05-31 Thread Kai Qiang Wu(Kennan)
Public bug reported:

For redhat, we have such guide like
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7/pdf/Performance_Tuning_Guide/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux-7-Performance_Tuning_Guide-en-US.pdf

and for tickless kernel, (use dynamic tickless ways)

1. config grub with following cmdline

$ cat /etc/default/grub
# If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update
# /boot/grub/grub.cfg.
# For full documentation of the options in this file, see:
#   info -f grub -n 'Simple configuration'

GRUB_DEFAULT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true
GRUB_TIMEOUT=10
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash isolcpus=1-2 nohz_full=1-2"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

I used nohz_full here, and it is CPU 1, 2 here.

2. update-grub after that.
3. Then reboot system

4. execute following
$ sudo perf stat  -C  1  -e irq_vectors:local_timer_entry taskset -c 1 stress
-t 1 -c 1
stress: info: [3869] dispatching hogs: 1 cpu, 0 io, 0 vm, 0 hdd
stress: info: [3869] successful run completed in 1s

 Performance counter stats for 'CPU(s) 1':

   252  irq_vectors:local_timer_entry

   1.001491203 seconds time elapsed

It always 252, (the default 250 HZ), seems tickless kernel option not have any
effect, whether config it or not, both have same results.

[Bug 1579610] [NEW] drm.ko < kernel version 4.5 has a dead lock bug

2016-05-08 Thread Qiang Yu
Public bug reported:

This bug go the code path
drvers/gpu/drm/{drm_prime.c,drm_gem.c}

drm_gem_prime_fd_to_handle()
| mutex_lock(_priv->prime.lock);
| drm_gem_handle_create_tail()
| | dev->driver->gem_open_object() (for amdgpu.ko driver, this is
amdgpu_gem_object_open)
| | drm_gem_handle_delete()
| | | drm_gem_remove_prime_handles()
| | | | mutex_lock(>prime.lock);

This causes the dead lock if gem_open_object() return with error.

Patch fixing this is already in Linux 4.5:

[Bug 1571506] [NEW] update-initramfs won't include firmware in /lib/firmware/updates

2016-04-18 Thread Qiang Yu
Public bug reported:

according to the kernel doc
http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/tree/Documentation/firmware_class/README

Linux kernel will search firmware from
"/lib/firmware/updates/" UTS_RELEASE,
"/lib/firmware/updates",
"/lib/firmware/" UTS_RELEASE,
"/lib/firmware"

But the add module function in initramfs-tools won't search the
"/lib/firmware/updates".

This problem applies to all Ubuntu releases.

[Bug 1536438] [NEW] Need add uaccess tag for /dev/dri/renderD*

2016-01-20 Thread Qiang Yu
Public bug reported:

3.16/3.19 Linux kernel add render node support which will create
/dev/dri/renderD*.
uaccess tag must be added to the /lib/udev/rules.d/70-uaccess.rules to make it
access-able to login user just like /dev/dri/card*.
It has been done on Ubuntu 15.04, but 14.04.3 has not.

14.04.3 70-uaccess.rules
# DRI video devices
SUBSYSTEM=="drm", KERNEL=="card*", TAG+="uaccess"

15.04 70-uaccess.rules
# DRI video devices

[Bug 1272788] Re: php5-fpm upstart job is not compatible with precise upstart

2015-08-11 Thread James Qiang
Hi, Robie

FYI, here is the content in Trusty /etc/init/php5-fpm.conf file,

# Precise upstart does not support reload signal, and thus rejects the
# job. We'd rather start the daemon, instead of forcing users to
# reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php5/+bug/1272788
#
# reload signal USR2

There is another bug report that you participated back in July
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php5/+bug/1242376

I have tested the above solution: adding 'reload signal USR2' in
php5-fpm.override solve the problem.

[Bug 1272788] Re: php5-fpm upstart job is not compatible with precise upstart

2015-08-10 Thread James Qiang
I concurred with Ruben Laban. It is annoying and I didn't expect to
find this behavior from the bug list. After all, Trusty is LTS..

Dimitri's third proposal seems to be perfect to me - no bug for
upgrading from precise. and neither for the trusty user.

* (possibly) ship reload signal stanza in the .override file (precise
upstart will ignore override, trusty upstart will use it)

[Bug 229947] [NEW] Epiphany-browser crashes while closing a tab containing chinese encoding

2008-05-13 Thread Jiqing Qiang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

After upgrading to Hardy, I have now epiphany browser 2.22.1.1. I
noticed that epiphany crashes a lot when I have multiple tabs opened,
and close the active tab. After further inverstigation, I noticed that
this happens only when I open pages containing chinese text encoding.
Attached is the terminal output.

(epiphany-browser:14865): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_hide: assertion
`GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed

(epiphany-browser:14865): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_destroy: assertion
`GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed

A set of above messages appears when I close a tab containing chinese
encodings for the first time. Then after tries by opening and closing
tabs with chinese encoding, segmentation fault occurs.

Also sometimes (haven't figure exactly when it occurs) I get in
terminal:

(epiphany-browser:14915): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref:
assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

I tried the same thing with firefox 3.0 and I don't get any of these
error messages.

If you need more information please let me know, I'll try to help.
