[Bug 1835340] Re: [HMEM] kmem: clear poison reported via mce or ACPI patrol scrub notifications

2021-05-11 Thread quanxian
** Description changed:

  Description:

During run-time, the kernel can be notified of new/latent errors in two
  different ways:

If an application trips over a latent/unknown error, and if the system has
machine check recovery, then we will be notified via the mce handler, and the
app will be killed. In this case, the kernel should take the chance to go
clear-errors for that page, and re-online it so it can be used again in the
future.
If the 'patrol scrubber' discovers an error on a yet-to-be-accessed location,
it can send an ACPI notification to the nfit driver. In this case, the kernel
should go clear the error if the page is not in use. If it is in use, the
application that has it mapped may need to killed as in case 1 above.
This additional run-time handling of errors will augment (and be
complimentary to) the init-time handling in userspace, and having both will
give us the best possible coverage for media errors.

2021-04-14 Thread quanxian
note: we notice we have new server platform has the installation issue. but not
serious than this one.
I will create another bug to track server platform installation issue.

Idaville, SPR-2S, CPX-4S, CLX-W

Canonical should have gotten all the platforms from Intel.

Please have a try on that platform.

2021-03-25 Thread quanxian
** Description changed:

  Description:
Invalidation Hint (IH) can be provided for page-selective-within-PASID

address/mask range needs to be invalidated or not. For software usages that
update only the leaf PTEs, the first-level and nested mappings in the
paging-structure-caches can be preserved by specifying the Invalidation Hint
field value of 1.

However, currently our SVM code hardcode IH=0. which is less optimal.
For vSVM, we have already added a generic flag
(IOMMU_INV_ADDR_FLAG_LEAF) to indicate passdown cache invalidate API is
for leaf PTE only. So as long as native SVM is fixed, vSVM could set the
  IH w/o code change.

SW needs to obtain statistics of non-leaf paging structure to provide IH
  bit.

[Bug 1914012] [NEW] [ICX] Intel_idle enhancement

2021-02-01 Thread quanxian
Public bug reported:

[Feature Description]
ICX - intel_idle enhancement

commit a472ad2bcea4 (“intel_idle: Customize IceLake server support”)
This patch can be backported to corresponding distribution, which is
independent of the p patches mentioned in this jira ticket. The benefit of
backporting the patch is that:
1. It is an optimization on ICX performance
2. it allows the user to have find-grained control over different C-states
3. distribution such as Redhat has found performance downgrading without this
patch.
4. DCG team has request to have this patch backported because they prefer to
use intel_idle driver (without this patch, the acpi_idle driver will be used on
ICX on centos 7.4/ubuntu 20.04.

[Bug 1878514] Re: [IOMMU] Support guest host PASID non-identity mapping

2021-01-05 Thread quanxian
** Description changed:

  Description

To support live migration of mediated device assignment with SVM/SVA, guest
must have its own PASID namespace.
Our first implementation of SVM uses system wide PASID allocation scheme
which is not live migration friendly.
Proposed by Kevin Tian and Yi Liu from virtualization team, we need to add
extensions to IOMMU guest SVA bind APIs. The work flow is as follows:

Here is a flow if QEMU chooses to do non-identity mapping of G-H PASID.
  1.Guest does sva_bind_mm()
2.Guest calls vcmd, qemu returns guest PASID, allocate host pasid from
host IOMMU driver, QEMU maintains G->H PASID lookup.
3.Guest IOMMU driver programs GPASID entry, then do PASID cache invalidate
4.QEMU traps PASID cache flush, find matching host PASID with mapping
from #2
5.Host IOMMU driver does bind_gpasid(hpasid, gpasid, dev), maintains H->G
PASID lookup in host IOMMU driver
6.Guest programs mdev DWQ with GPASID, trapped in QEMU then VDCM
7.VDCM calls the newly proposed iommu_get_hpasid() API to do G->H lookup
established in #5 (reverse), then program hpasid in HW.

  PRQ:
1.Host IOMMU receives PRQ with hpasid
2.Host IOMMU looks up guest PASID (which is in private data as part of
the gpasid bind), Reports PRQ fault with host PASID with guest PASID as private
data(avoid reverse lookup in QEMU on performance path)
3.QEMU receives PRQ with host PASID, obtain guest PASID from fault
private data

  PR response
1.Guest send page response with guest PASID
2.QEMU does G->H PASID look up
3.QEMU passdown page response with host PASID

  Note:
  - Fast lookup directions
  - QEMU does G->H lookup
  - IOMMU driver does H->G lookup

  - Reverse lookup
  - IOMMU driver does G->H reverse look up only for slow path

[Bug 1908471] [NEW] [TGL] Thermald user space package support

2020-12-16 Thread quanxian
Public bug reported:

[Feature Description]

Thermal issues are important to handle proactively to reduce performance
impact.

The project provides a Linux user mode daemon to system developers,
reducing time to market with controlled thermal management using
P-states, T-states, and the Intel power clamp driver. The Thermal Daemon
uses the existing Linux kernel infrastructure and can be easily
enhanced.

Who It’s For

The project is for system developers who want to enable application
developers and their customers with the responsive and flexible thermal
management, supporting optimal performance in desktop, clamshell, mobile

[Bug 1878522] Re: [IOMMU] Support User IPI with kernel page table isolation (KPTI)

2020-11-16 Thread quanxian
** Description changed:

  Description:
User IPI architecture depends on memory resident tables for IPI routing. This
routing table, aka User Interrupt Target Table (UITT), are managed by the
kernel. Since this UIPI is bond to user tasks, UITT is also allocated per task
if UIPI connection is set up. The natural location of UITT is in task_struct
where its life cycle are managed according to the task life cycle. This is how
the initial implementation in SKX prototype is done.
However, with the aftermath of Meltdown vulnerability, KPTI is introduced.
With KPTI, most kernel memory (task struct included) are no longer mapped into
user process. We must address that by changing the allocation scheme of UITT.
This is no a unique situation, we can leverage existing infrastructure for
LDT and IDT.

[Bug 1878523] Re: [IOMMU] Provide invalidation hint to IOMMU page selective PASID-based IOTLB invalidation

2020-11-16 Thread quanxian
** Also affects: ubuntu
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

  Description:
Invalidation Hint (IH) can be provided for page-selective-within-PASID
invalidations, the Invalidation Hint specifies if the first-level and nested
mappings cached in the paging-structure-caches that controls the specified
address/mask range needs to be invalidated or not.

SW needs to obtain statistics of non-leaf paging structure to provide IH
  bit.

[Bug 1835340] Re: [HMEM] kmem: clear poison reported via mce or ACPI patrol scrub notifications

2020-11-16 Thread quanxian
** Description changed:

  Description:

This additional run-time handling of errors will augment (and be
complimentary to) the init-time handling in userspace, and having both will
give us the best possible coverage for media errors.

pinctrl: intel: Allow to request locked pads

Some firmwares would like to protect pads from being modified by OS

in such circumstances may request pad and may not change its state.

[Bug 1900792] Re: Audio doesn't work on Ubuntu 20.10

2020-10-29 Thread quanxian
1) originally we use speaker-test to test HDMI/DP/Legacy, failed on
Ubuntu 20.10. with 5.9 official kernel, works fine.

2) now we change to another method to test audio, works well.

Summary:
Seems test tools has some issue.
5.9 official kernel support speaker-test, but in 5.8 (ubuntu 20.10), doesn't
support speaker-test well.

new method to test audio:

here are our testing step, hope it will give you some hints.

Update
Kernel: 5.8.0-20-generic
Steps:
1. settings-> Sound -> Output Device
2. Click the Test, then click the audio symbol to check the sound.

CML-S/H, ICL-Y/U:
Legacy/DP/HDMI audio PASS

TGL-H:
Legacy/DP audio PASS

CML-U.V2, TGL-Y/U:
No legacy audio device in "aplay -l"

JSL:
Legacy audio PASS. (No graphic driver)

EHL:
aplay: device_list:274: no soundcards found...(No graphic driver)

[Bug 1889172] [NEW] upgrade ndctl v69

2020-07-28 Thread quanxian
Public bug reported:

Decsription:

ndctl is Utility library for managing the libnvdimm (non-volatile memory
device) sub-system in the Linux kernel.

In order to support Intel Apache Pass, ndctl is essential and is the
base of APP which use Apache Pass.

Source Code: https://github.com/pmem/ndctl

A new ndctl release is available

Highlights include support for 'PAPR' NVDIMMs, a build fix for zero-
length array warnings in GCC10, a new option for ndctl-monitor allowing
for a timeout for epoll, and misc unit test and documentation fixes.
