[Bug 966399] Re: Mesa related GPU hangs on Sandybridge and Ivybridge systems

2012-05-21 Thread ramayer
I think this bug was closed incorrectly.

Actual fix for this is here -- in the 3.3.6 kernel:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.3.6-precise/

And Ubuntu packages for 3.2.x here:

http://people.canonical.com/~ogasawara/eugeni/rc6/

If you need 3.2 kernel Ubuntu .deb files with those patches, they're
available here:

http://people.canonical.com/~ogasawara/eugeni/rc6/

For more info:

http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-
gfx/2012-February/015029.html

Testing them and 3.3 that Michael (starkpc) mentioned now really
really hope this works -- Unity-3D hangs really badly without them.

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-16 Thread ramayer
Underclocking and over-cooling my 3570k led to a system (described about
in a me too post) which has been stable for many hours now.

Starting to worry that it might be a hardware issue in the GPU part of
the chip that's triggered by Unity3D.

[Bug 966399] Re: Mesa related GPU hangs on Sandybridge and Ivybridge systems

2012-05-15 Thread ramayer
Using 12.04 LTS 64-bit, on an Ivy Bridge Core i5 3570K I'm getting
frequent (about every 1-2 days) hard hangs of the system.

Mouse is NOT responsive - can not move or click the mouse.

Keyboard is NOT responsive.
Can not Ctrl-F1.
Can not Magic SysRq.

Is this fix in the 64-bit 12.04 LTS release?

Nice IONICE are no help at all when running instances of ubuntu under
a virtual machine (since the virtual machine itself doesn't get it's own
priority lowered during that time).
