Thanks elguavas! With both the trackpad and trackpoint disabled I can now boot linux-image-5.13.0-20-generic. I can still move the cursor with the trackpad and do mouse clicks with the trackpad (not the buttons). Cold reboot requires exiting bios with the save option as others have mentioned. --
