[Bug 1644636] [NEW] Cannot open your terminal /dev/pts/X - please check

2016-11-24 Thread rautamiekka
Public bug reported:

I'm pretty sure nothing will happen by posting this, but it's not like I
should just leave it ...

That error is still well alive despite the numerous reports.

The package version 4.4.0-6 (GNU version 4.04.00; the current one at the
time of posting this), designated for Zesty, installed just fine on
16.04 LTS through a DEB file from official repo but provided absolutely
nothing related to this issue by how easy it still is to replicate: as
§root§ (doing this as an user with §sudo su§ permissions not tested),
§su§ into another user and try to run §screen§, doesn't matter which
parameters used as long as the parameter doesn't make §screen§ just
reply without executing anything. As §root§ no problems, obviously.

I remember well, on either 12.04 LTS or 14.04 LTS, that I managed to get
a version of §screen§ where this and the §chmod 777§ problem with
§/var/run/screen/§ were fixed by no longer using §/var/run/screen/§, but
some subfolder under §~/.screen/§, disregarding the fact the executing
user was, usually, logged into by §root§.

Don't ask me to help fix this by writing C[++], I can't even write a
Hello World program, although I can often interpret what the existing
line does.

[Bug 1527937] [NEW] Wine 1.6 requires a non-existent package

2015-12-19 Thread rautamiekka
Public bug reported:

§wine1.6-i386§ is required but doesn't exist, preventing Wine
installation, whether it's from Wine PPA or from Ubuntu repos according
to the listings shown by §aptitude§.

However, that package does exist in the repo while browsing:

^ I think you can emulate how it works easiest on Window$ since 7: using

[Bug 1414569] [NEW] Update to 9.22

2015-01-26 Thread rautamiekka
Public bug reported:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/p7zip/+question/261155

I always install 9.22 Beta on Window$ cuz I know it's perfectly stable
and newest I know for sure it is. I commented a link to the above
question with changes from 9.21 that are in the core (and in GUI). There
aren't much in 9.22 Beta for command line versions of 7-Zip, but,
without checking the code, it wouldn't hurt to go for 9.22 instead of
9.21:

[Bug 662312] Re: Cannot handle spaces in compressoptions

2014-06-05 Thread rautamiekka
Be warned that @filbo's method sort of requires §compressext xz§ cuz
otherwise the XZ-compressed files end in gz but still are xz files. Or
at least on 12.04 it does.

As an semi-offtopic, I added §nomail§ to not get that uselessness into
mail files on the computer, and §notifempty§ is also worth the trouble.
The latter is already added to most logrotate configs, and you can find
each file which doesn't have, with §grep -L 'notifempty'
/etc/logrotate.d/*§.

[Bug 1307371] [NEW] PIZA to 12.04 ?

2014-04-14 Thread rautamiekka
Public bug reported:

I have noticed that PIXZ is available in 13.04 Raring at earliest, but
the versions between 12.04 and 14.04 [Quantal, Raring, Saucy] are all
non-LTS, and we'd not install a non-LTS on a long-running Server. XZ is
awesome, but single-threaded operation is quite big no-no, Precise still
has a long road for support ahead, and I'd rather not compile any
package myself on my level, so we'd appreciate releasing PIXZ for
Precise.

FWIW, the packages regarding XZ and PIXZ are rather old in Precise's
repos, same for all Ubuntu versions before 14.04.
