I concur that this needs attention. Many PyPI packages have been
dropping manylinux1 wheels in favour of manylinux2010 wheels, which
means that Ubuntu users will experience trouble installing those
packages (or worse, will not receive important security updates to those
packages).

I suspect there's an important environment variable that is not being
propagated by the Panda3D Runtime.
Please print out the environment variables inside the application (using
os.environ) and the environment variables outside of the application for
comparison.

I'm the release maintainer for the Panda3D project, and I'd love to
offer any assistance if required. We currently offer Ubuntu and Debian
repositories at http://archive.panda3d.org, but it'd be cool to have
Panda3D in the official repositories.
Panda3D supports two audio libraries: OpenAL and FM
Same issue on FreeBSD amd64, using firefox 3.6.13 and nvidia drivers.
Especially launchpad.net brings the system to a crawl ('top' reports
Xorg and firefox-bin using up almost all of my two CPUs as I'm writing
this).
