Looks like compcache size needs to be set to a particular percentage of
the installed RAM

I've been running the updates to Intrepid Beta for a week, or so,
without problems. Today's updates resulted in the problem reported
here. My first indication that there was a problem was that the window
decorations had changed colour and the menu titles were in a larger font
than usual.
