I also have this problem. After a bit of reading I found out about the
imac27_122 model, but it doesn't work for me either. The best sound
output I can get (from the comes from mbp55, but then the audio never
plays from the headphones. I own a 27 imac (the model before the retina
display model).
Sorry, it's late here - a quick sentence clarification: The best sound
output I can get (from the internal speaker) comes from the mbp55. With
the mbp55 model, I get no headphone sound, but there is a headphone
setting in alsamixer.

@Paul Dufresne - I wasn't aware that uploading a file meant that it
would be flagged as a patch - there is a checkbox that seems to have
that function, and I assumed the flag would only exist if that
checkbox was checked (which it wasn't).
