[Bug 771661] Re: Allow .xsession-errors to be a symlink

I can confirm that the version of gdm in lucid-proposed functions as
expected.

Specifically I tested that changing .xsession-errors to a symlink both
does not get overwritten and that the symlink destination gets created
if it does not exist.

2011-04-22 Thread scm
Public bug reported:

This is about the versions currently available for Lucid (10.04)

There should be a conflicts relationship between python-pysnmp-common

[Bug 733603] [NEW] Windows lost when switching from mirrored displays and back

2011-03-11 Thread scm
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Originally reported as part of LP#732867 (relevant bits re-pasted).

This happens on Lucid 10.4.02 with gnome-control-center version
1:2.30.1-0ubuntu1 and compiz 1:0.8.4-0ubuntu15

For what it's worth, I have reproduced this issue on a Lenovo X200 and
have users internally who can reproduce this issue on a Lenovo X201 and
a T410 on several different types and sizes of external monitor (all
attached via display port - DVI converters).

- Windows get lost when display properties change.

Here's how to reproduce:

- Install Lucid Laptop on an X200
- Attach the laptop to a docking station connected by display port - dvr to a
24 monitor
- Configure (system - preferences - monitor) displays to not be mirrored,
show monitors in panel checked, drag the monitor to a different orientation,
and increase the resolution in the monitor to something other than what the
laptop has.
- Open a web browser, put it in the 24 display.
- Open a terminal and a gnome app (I used gnome mine) in the laptop display.
- Detach the laptop (without suspending) to simulate going to a meeting, etc.
Note that you can not reproduce this by simply re-applying the configuration
with mirroring on and off.

At this point the first bug (about windows getting messed up) occurs.
Notice that, while the browser window is moved to the laptop display,
the gnome mines and original terminal disappeared. If I open a new
terminal and run ps, I can see they're still running, but they're not on
any of my visible/accessible displays.

- Re-attach the laptop to the docking station

At this point, the second bug is reproduced. The monitor configuration
has reverted to mirrored displays. When I reset my preferences to what
I want, the original browser window (as well as the preferences window)
moves to the 24 monitor, but my gnome mines are still missing, as well
as the original terminal (the new terminal I opened in the laptop while
detached in order to check for the disappeared window's pids is moved to
the new monitor).

To which I was asked to split into separate issues:

Evan Broder wrote:

By default, GNOME runs with 4 virtual workspaces. For your first bug, I
suspect that the windows you are losing are actually on a different
virtual workspace. Try pressing Ctrl-Alt-Right arrow and see if your
windows are there. Your window manager is responsible for reconfiguring
windows when the monitor layout changes. This is a distinct bug from the
other behavior you described, so it would be helpful if you could split
that issue out to a different bug report. It should be filed against
either the compiz package (if you have visual effects turned on) or the
metacity package (if you have visual effects off).

I had checked all the virtual desktops to no avail, and I just re-
created the bug again, and still have nothing on the desktops. I will
see if I can take some screenshots to demonstrate this appropriately. I
suspect that something is remembering the additional virtual
workspaces that were created when I turned off mirroring. What's odd is
that I can't find it again when I turn mirroring back off.

It is also worth noting that if I log out, and log back in, I get back
to my desired, unmirrored display (or if I reboot and log back in),
though the login screen is still mirrored.

I will attach several screenshots that show the problem.

[Bug 732867] Re: gnome-display-properties monitor layout not saved when using docking station (and display port)

2011-03-11 Thread scm
I reported Bug #733603 for the missing windows issues. I am not entirely
sure it's unrelated still, given that it only happens when detaching,
and not when manually switching between mirrored and unmirrored
displays. There are screenshots there which I can upload here if you
think it would be valuable.

In any case, I have a generated monitors.xml file, attached. This file
does not change while detached.

I went ahead and copied the monitors.xml file during several points
while reproducing the issue, to see if the file contents changed
(basically, they didn't).

$ diff -ddu monitors.xml.back-to-disabled monitors.xml.whiledetached
$

There are changes between the original I made when I set up my display
configuration, and the new one I made when I manually reset the
configuration after reproducing the issue, but those differences are
those that come from me resetting it slightly differently:

$ diff -ddu monitors.xml.back-to-disabled monitors.xml.mirroringdisabled

[Bug 732867] [NEW] gnome-display-properties monitor layout not saved when using docking station (and display port)

2011-03-10 Thread scm
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

This happens on Lucid 10.4.02 with gnome-control-center version
1:2.30.1-0ubuntu1

I am not sure this is specifically gnome-control-center, but I figured
I'd start with that package and we can move as appropriate.

There appears to be two bugs here, but I wanted to keep the initial
report as one issue, in case they're actually related. For what it's
worth, I have reproduced this issue on a Lenovo X200 and have users
internally who can reproduce this issue on a Lenovo X201 and a T410 on
several different types and sizes of external monitor (all attached via
display port - DVI converters).

The two issues are:

- Windows get lost when display properties change.
- The display property preferences aren't saved when undocking / re-docking.

[Bug 634554] Re: please package libfuse2 2.8.3

2010-09-22 Thread scm
Here are steps to reliably reproduce this problem on lucid laptop
(stock) running libfuse2 (2.8.1-1.1ubuntu2):

1. install auditd (e.g. 1.7.13-1ubuntu2)
2. add a custom rules file with any rules other than delete all rules (I've
attached an example) to /etc/audit/audit.rules
3. reboot (it's probably possible to restart auditd + gdm + gvfsd + mounts, but
rebooting is more reliable)
4. access a fuse mounted filesystem (e.g. run 'stat .gvfs' if logged in under
gnome)

** Attachment added: sample custom audit rules file that causes all access to
fuse mounted filesystems to hang

[Bug 623303] Re: If a drive in the fstab is missing at boot, the boot process hangs for user input

2010-09-02 Thread scm

Anything with the 'user' fs option, should probably be ignored/skipped by
mountall to begin with, as those filesystems are generally not wanted at boot
time.

According to fstab(5) (but not mountall) you can pass the 'optional'
option to unknown fstypes, or the 'nobootwait' option to not hold up the
boot waiting for a filesystem. For the case of something in /media, you
probably need 'nobootwait'.

I can confirm this behavior in Lucid (10.04). I would expect mountall to
ignore fstab entries with the user option.

[Bug 571444] Re: Boot hangs and unable to continue when automount disk in fstab is not available (Off or Disconnected)

2010-09-02 Thread scm

I commented in a bug now marked as a duplicate of this one, but I'll re-post
here:

Anything with the 'user' fs option, should probably be ignored/skipped
by mountall to begin with, as those filesystems are generally not wanted
at boot time. I'm not sure how the current design of mountall could
otherwise be more intelligent about what to skip, though there is Bug
#614662 with an enhanced mountall.

[Bug 507326] Re: alien crashes when trying to convert an RPM containing %ghost files

2010-07-01 Thread scm
This bug affects functionality of a self-contained software-package
(alien), contains a patch that works cleanly on the lucid version (8.79)
and seems unlikely to inadvertently affect users as the current behavior
is incorrect. I therefore would like to see this fixed in lucid and have
nominated the bug.
