Re: [Bug 206014] Re: MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC on Notebook Notebook LG LE50
Still getting the error with 8.10 installed. noapic gets ride of it. The weird freezing/IO thing has stopped but still having USB issues (ohci works for a few hundred MB before crashing out and eventually coming back as ehci which is an improvement in usability but very slow). Still got slow ATA transfer but I guess these are for another bug report unless related to the timer??? They did a great job! :-) So no IO-APIC error? I still get that error on the liveCD for 8.10 and gentoo but am going to try a reinstall today anyway and see how it goes. With noapic option, the message goes away and things are better but I currenlty still have a ton of trouble with USB flaking out and the system doing _NOTHING_ without some user input (which with realplayer streams has the effect that it goes silent at random then when you jog the mouse a whole load of audio packets that somehow have been buffered somewhere come out at once - similarly with vlc on some files). Strangely running azureus prevents these pauses as if the network IO or azureus' disk IO is providing the stimulus that jogging the mouse supplies. It's just really wierd, happens at random and is really really frustrating. I have trouble getting anything done on this machine and am moving most work onto my ASUS notebook which works 100% fine with all ubuntu (except for the Ricoh card reader and the slow hdparm - but that's another story...) -- MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC on Notebook Notebook LG LE50 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/206014 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 206014] Re: MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC on Notebook Notebook LG LE50
I have this problem on an LG-E300 laptop with Hardy. noapic fixes is but that can lead to other problems (random freezing after boot). I also got it on Fluxbuntu based on Gutsy. Since this is related to IO timers, could it explain any of these other symptoms I'm getting? -USB devices crapping out (large small drives, MTP) just becoming unresponsive after some use, particularly while other USB traffic going on -weird system freezes that only unfreeze when there is input from mouse/keyboard. i.e. having to constantly move the mouse to cause background processing to happen, as if all processes are hanging until there's IO interrupts -slow ATA performance (think this is logged as a separate bug) -acpi glitches (can't soft restart, plugging in power half way through startup causes serious slow down). Trying noapic or acpi=off eliminate some of the above but result in instable system.
