[Bug 1939628] Re: Fan goes full speed on resume from suspend (Lenovo ThinkPad T460)

2022-04-29 Thread Tomas Zalobin
Bug appeared on my Lenovo ThinkPad T460 as well(Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS,
kernel 5.13.0-40-generic).

It was solved after the BIOS update to version 1.45. The update was
offered automatically by Ubuntu Software (in the "Updates" window).

[Bug 1938999] Re: External displays not working on Thinkpad T490 with ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock

2021-08-11 Thread Tomas Petricek
I also installed the 5.13.9 kernel, again with the same unmet
dependency:

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of
linux-headers-5.13.9-051309-generic:
 linux-headers-5.13.9-051309-generic depends on libc6 (>= 2.33); however:
Version of libc6:amd64 on system is 2.31-0ubuntu9.2.

To my surprise, I was able to boot using this kernel.
Package manager complains due to broken packages.
Also, I am unable to gather some of the logs:
cat: /proc/version_signature: No such file or directory
dmesg: read kernel buffer failed: Operation not permitted

Nevertheless, the displays work as they should. I'm attaching the logs I
got.

2021-08-11 Thread Tomas Petricek
There seems to be a dependency problem with linux-

[Bug 1938999] Re: External displays not working on Thinkpad T490 with ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock

2021-08-11 Thread Tomas Petricek
I tested again on kernels 5.8 and 5.11 with nvidia-driver-470. Logs are
attached.

With 5.8 kernel, the external displays eventually come to live, after
connecting the dock and some waiting (~15 s). After first connection, it
seemed to be doing several trials, in the end it worked too.

With 5.11 kernel, the external displays remain black, and computer was
lagging or almost frozen.

I'll see what I can do with 5.13 kernel.

[Bug 1939297] [NEW] External monitors are black (connected through USB-C hub)

2021-08-09 Thread Tomas Jenicek

After upgrading the kernel from 5.8 to 5.11 (5.11.0-25-generic),
external monitors (both HDMI and DP) connected through USB-C hub

them in the Displays settings utility, but they are not receiving any

[Bug 1938999] Re: External displays not working on Thinkpad T490 with ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock

2021-08-09 Thread Tomas Petricek
Thanks for looking into this. I changed the drivers to nouveau to
workaround some previous issues I had with external displays and then I
forgot made this change.

Could you point me to how to test with 5.13/5.14 kernels, please? If
possible I would like to stick to the default drivers/kernel.

For now I switched again to 5.11.0-25 and nvidia drivers v.470 to check
the current state. Without the dock and one external display it is okay,
but I'll be able to test with the dock only later this week. I'll post
updates once done.

[Bug 1938999] [NEW] External displays not working on Thinkpad T490 with ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock

2021-08-05 Thread Tomas Petricek
Public bug reported:

I have two external displays chained via Display port connected to the
ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock.

They are working with kernel 5.8.0-63 but not with the new 5.11.0-25
kernel.

I could reproduce this behavior several times for both kernels, as
follows: I booted up with disconnected dock, logged in, then I connected
it, disconnected it, and connected it again.

With the 5.11.0-25 kernel the external displays go black; the main
screen turns off and on several times. Sometimes the main screen remains
working, but UI is lagging.

I'm attaching the logs. Two separate boots for each variant are marked
'a'/'b'.

[Bug 1923844] [NEW] i915 drm GPU hang - introduced with linux-image-5.8.0-49-generic

2021-04-14 Thread Tomas Zemek
Public bug reported:

This is a regression introduced with the latest kernel (linux-
image-5.8.0-49-generic).

Kubuntu 20.04, since upgrading kernel from version 5.8.0-48.54 to
version 5.8.0-49.55 the system boots properly but the GUI often hangs,
either immediately after user login to GUI or any time after that
(screen stops updating with various artifacts and UI no longer responds)
and computer has to be restarted. Messages like these appear in dmesg:

2020-10-05 Thread Tomas
(sory for the many posts, i'm realizing things as times goes by)
Now that i think of it i don't know what i did when

$ git branch main origin/main

it didn't returned errors so i don't know if i copied or renamed a
branch

git branch (-m | -M) []
is supposed to rename for example

was i supposed to choose one of the options between origin/main ? idk
or was it a path?

[Bug 1897992] Re: No VGA video signal after installing pkg and rebooting

2020-10-02 Thread Tomas
Hi,
As far as i understand the monitor, board vga connector and cables work
perfectly because i use them with no problems at all botting windows 10 and
also lubuntu using vesa driver...
Also the monitor (and it's integrated cable) were brought from another computer
where they worked ok...
i don't understand what I2C bus is and how to test it, i googled a bit but the
matter appears to surpass my knowledge
Thx

[Bug 1875003] Re: softhsm2-common fails during postinst due to missing groupadd command

2020-04-27 Thread Tomas Krizek
If `passwd` package is expected to always be in the runtime environment
and doesn't have to be explicitly listed as a dependency, this issue can
be closed.

The described issue manifested in Open Build Service when `passwd`
wasn't part of the Ubuntu 20.04 buildroot - this has been changed since.

[Bug 1871913] Re: super key does not work with secondary keyboard layout

2020-04-25 Thread Tomas Kral
Super key works only for default input layout. When you go to Settings
-> Region and Language -> Input sources, the super key will work only
for first input layout. When you change position of them the bug with
super key switch to second layouts and vice versa.

Possibly could be related to this issue in upstream:

[Bug 1872956] [NEW] osc segfaults during checkout command in bionic

2020-04-15 Thread Tomas Krizek
Public bug reported:

"osc checkout" command results in a segfault with osc-0.162.1-1 on
ubuntu bionic. This may be related to some ssl errors that has been
fixed upstream since this version.

As of 2020-04-15, this is 100% reproducible with updated system or a clean
docker image with this command:
$ osc checkout home:CZ-NIC:knot-resolver-latest knot-resolver
Ahome:CZ-NIC:knot-resolver-latest
Ahome:CZ-NIC:knot-resolver-latest/knot-resolver
corrupted size vs. prev_size
Aborted (core dumped)

this issue. https://packages.debian.org/buster/osc

[Bug 1858341] [NEW] rbd driver does not list all volumes in pool

2020-01-05 Thread Tomas Hlavacek
Public bug reported:

I have Eoan hypervisor connected to a Ceph (14.2.2) cluster. There is a
problem with listing and using the rbd volumes. Only one volume is
listed by libvirt functions regardless of how many of them are in the
corresponding pool.

I.e. for my pool called "core":

[Bug 1727662]

2019-11-17 Thread Tomas Janousek
I was experiencing the same issue with a ThinkPad 25 (which is almost
the same thing as T470) and I implemented these precautions as a
workaround:

- disable DPMS when docked and external monitors enabled
- never switch VTs with external monitors enabled
- always disable external monitors before suspending or undocking

Posting here just in case someone is still suffering from this and
hasn't figured out a workaround yet.

[Bug 1816308] Re: gnome-shell crashes with SIGSEGV in meta_window_actor_is_destroyed() when changing workspace after several minutes of work in one workspace

Happens to me also when using Skype or Slack video calls and switching
workspaces. I turned off animations and see how it goes, but it's
definitely a bug. It crashes your Gnome session in worst case or freezes
for a few seconds and start flickering the screen.

2019-01-29 Thread Tomas Jonsson
Same for me as well, but running Dell XPS 13 with a Dell WD15 docking station.
The scenarios for me have been:

1, When changing the screen resolution on my laptop, both screens turns
blank and I have to reboot the computer

2, If power saving for the screens kicks in. I have to reboot the
computer.

After downgrading to 4.15.0-43-generic the problem disappears.

The computer is still responding to ping when pinging from another
machine tough.

3) What you expected to happen

Start any libreoffice (verified at least with writer, calc, and impress) from:
- Desktop menu: Office -> LibreOffice Writer/Calc/Impress
- Filetype association: .../anyfile.odf

The libreoffice splash screen is displayed. After the dialog indicates
"100% complete", the dialog closes and the writer opens a blank document
or the selected document.

4) What happened instead

The application crashes immediately after the initial splash screen, and
shows the "Document Recovery" dialog: "Due to an unexpected error
LibreOffice crashed...". Trying to start the application again shows
the "Document Recovery" dialog again, with "LibreOffice will attempt to
recover the state of the files" and showing "Untitled 1" in the list of
documents to be recovered. There is no "Discard" button, and pressing
"OK" results in an endless loop with recovery dialogs. The only way to
get out is to kill the window in the titlebar.

This only happens with libreoffice-gnome + libreoffice-gtk3 or
libreoffice-gtk + libreoffice-gtk2 installed. Removing those packages
and starting e.g. writer again shows the document recovery dialog but
now with a "Discard" button. Pressing that button discards the
"Untitled 1" document and libreoffice starts normally.

I don't think it is related to Bug #1777518 since libreoffice-java-
common is not installed. I've also disabled Java in Options -> Advanced
-> Use a Java runtime environment.

WORKAROUND: Remove libreoffice-gnome + libreoffice-gtk3 or libreoffice-
gtk + libreoffice-gtk2

[Bug 616450] Re: hpfax crashed with TypeError in ()

2018-09-19 Thread Tomas Korbar
Hi,
this bug is caused by more arguments than argument specifiers in formatted
string. Imho adding pid to the formatted string is obsolete because bug
function in hpfax adds pid to the message itself. After removal of pid, call to
bug function works as expected.

[Bug 1503565] Re: vagrant depends on bsdtar which depends on libarchive13

2018-04-20 Thread Tomas Lipensky
As I have posted on https://askubuntu.com/questions/860979/i-tried-to-
install-vagrant-in-ubuntu-but-failed-in-dependence-problem-libarchiv :

i had the same problem. I found solution:

1) Download bsdtar suited for Debian 16.04 (mainly for libarchive13 in
U16.04): https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/amd64/bsdtar/download cd
/tmp wget
http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/liba/libarchive/bsdtar_3.1.2-11ubuntu0.16.04.3_amd64.deb

2) Install it locally: apt install
/tmp/bsdtar_3.1.2-11ubuntu0.16.04.3_amd64.deb

3) than vagrant can be installed: apt install vagrant

This package should be added to Ubuntu 16.04 repository. I don't know
how to create request for that.

[Bug 1765646] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.04 - issue with badtar package installation

2018-04-20 Thread Tomas Lipensky
Public bug reported:

apt install bsdtar fails with dependency issue on 16.04:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have

Solution:

Include in repository the bsdtar package from

(wget
http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/liba/libarchive/bsdtar_3.1.2-11ubuntu0.16.04.3_amd64.deb

which works with libarchive13 in version 3.1.2-11ubuntu0.16.04.3 which is

[Bug 1751047] [NEW] apt-dater-host doesn't correctly recognize available kernels -> please update to current upstream apt-dater-host

2018-02-22 Thread Tomas Pospisek
Public bug reported:

$ ssh ubuntu_xenial_machine
# dpkg -s apt-dater-host | grep Version
Version: 1.0.1-1
# apt-dater-host kernel
ADPROTO: 0.7
KERNELINFO: 1 4.13.0-36-generic

# zgrep KERNELINFO -m 1 -A 4 -B 2 /usr/share/doc/apt-dater-host/ADP-0.7.gz
The result line has the following format:

KERNELINFO: ${Code} ${Release}

The following codes are supported:
0 - The running kernel is the latest distri kernel. No reboot required.
1 - The running kernel is an distri kernel but it's older then the
latest

So apt-dater-host is telling us, that a new kernel is available on this
machine. Let's see:

# uname -r
4.13.0-36-generic

# dpkg-query -W -f='\${Package} \${Version} \${Status;20} \${Maintainer}

So, no, in fact, there is no newer kernel image available. We do have
the latest kernel installed.

Now if we go and debug apt-dater-host, we find out, that the above
command (modulo the '\${Package}' name) is exactly what apt-dater-host
is, to retrieve the list of available kernel images.

Now why does apt-dater-host go wrong in determining whether there's a
new kernel?

It is because it iterates over that list [1] and compares the version
from `uname -r` with the version from the list. The problem here is,
that comparing the current installed kernel version with the version
from the the last line, i.e. :

# dpkg --compare-versions 4.13.0-36 lt 4.13.0.36.55

will yield

# echo $?
0

meaning, yes there indeed *is* a newer kernel available. The problem is
only, that linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04 is *not* a kernel package, but
instead is a kernel *meta* package, that depends on the latest kernel...

Current apt-dater-host versions from upsteam improve the query [2] with
a:

| grep linux-image

Remember, the upstream query does not include the '\${Package}' field,
so what the grep does is to effectively filter out by the '\${Provides}'
field, which in the case of the meta package is empty. Only the "real"
kernel packages do provide a 'linux-image'.

Thus upstream's apt-dater-host works on Ubuntu, while Debian's
apt-dater-host doesn't.

If you update Debian's apt-dater-host then I think it will be pulled
into Ubuntu, and things should be fixed there. So I ask you to please
update the Debian apt-dater-host from upstream.

This is the same bug as https://bugs.debian.org/891092 which was closed
there because among other reasons "this is the wrong platform for Ubuntu
bugs I am closing it here."

Thanks.

I had default the nouveau driver driving the nvidia card. Seems there
were some problems with the Nvidia driver:

However 4.4.0-109-generic fixed this.

Thanks a lot to Ubuntu for their quick fix and to Norbert for letting us
know here.

[Bug 1687623] Re: 4.4.0-77-generic breaks internet on 16.04.2

2017-05-03 Thread Tomas
@Stefan, thank you. I can also confirm that linux-image-extra was not
installed (I used Ubuntu Software Updater to do original upgrade) and
running apt dist-upgrade solved the issue.

[Bug 1687623] Re: 4.4.0-77-generic breaks internet on 16.04.2

2017-05-03 Thread Tomas
I have similar issues with 4.4.0-77-generic, except that after the
update no hardware is recognized at all. Ubuntu doesn't see my monitors,
wired network card, etc. While booting with 4.4.0-75-generic has no such
problems.

[Bug 1680975] [NEW] mistake in munin-node-configure manpage

2017-04-07 Thread Tomas Hamal
Public bug reported:

There is a mistake in munin-node-configure man page:

 --snmpauthpassword
Authentication password. Optional when encryption is also enabled,
in which case defaults to the privacy password
   ("--snmpprivpassword").

--snmpauthpassword does not exist.

It is
 --snmpauthpass

** Affects: munin (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1609700] Re: username is not saved in openconnect connection dialog

2017-02-15 Thread Tomas Angelo
On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS I solved this by installing the latest package from
zesty

http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=network-
manager=names=all=all

http://packages.ubuntu.com/zesty/amd64/network-manager/download

sudo synaptic
Settings -> Repositories

Tab Other Software
Click on Add
deb http://sk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu zesty main

Now refresh packages and type network-manager to search, select (only)
that package and press CTRL+E (for choosing version of package) and
select latest from zesty.

NOTICE: After upgrading network-manager package I recommend to disable
this repository, because probably you do not want to mixture your system
with various different packages that can affect stability of your
system.
