I can verify that this applet is not working in Jaunty 32-bit or 64-bit.
No errors are thrown. Things that are deleted using the delete key do
not appear in the awn trash applet's trash folder.

I think I've found a solution. It worked on my Tecra M3.
Double click the volume icon (system tray). Click the switches tab and
enable External Amplifier.
See post 6 at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1012179.

8.10 not autodetecting my sound card
I stumbled across this bug while trying to get sound working on my Tecra
M3 (Intel ICH6, intel-8x0m sound).
I resolved this problem by following a thread on the system76
ubuntuforum that suggested enabling the external amplifier switch under
the volume control. I just double clicked the volume
I can confirm this with Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US;
rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121623 Ubuntu/8.10 (intrepid) Firefox/3.0.5. I'm
running Ubuntu (gnome) 8.10 64-bit.
Executing from the terminal I get only the messages segfault or
aborted when FF crashes.

It does not happen with my wired (on motherboard) ethernet. It is
specific to the WMP54G.

I just upgraded the nvidia driver for my geforce 7600gs to 180.06 and my
artifact problems are gone (along with some weird window drawing errors
I was having). The driver is available from nvidia.com's driver beta
section.

PS to bjb1959: No offense take here. I hadn't tried Cairo Dock and your
post gave me the opportunity to do so. A little information never hurt
anyone, which to me is one of the core values of the open source
community. Now that the driver upgrade has fixed my dock, I'll keep on
trucking with AWN
I'm experiencing this problem with Intrepid and a Canon EOS Digital
Rebel XSi.
