[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-05-14 Thread vaughn
Still can't use different scales on my monitors. Need to set 125% on my
32" and 150% on my 43", but it freaks out even with the update on the
proposed channel. Still have to set 150% only on the 32", let it jump
both monitors to 200%, then tweak it in nvidia-settings.

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-04-29 Thread vaughn
I have a Dell u3219q 32" and Dell p4317q with this issue. I'm trying to
set 150% on the 32" and 125% on the 43", but it just goes to 200% and or
goes blank. And things reset after every reboot, i.e. scaling goes
wrong, monitor positioning changes, etc.

My workaround is to set fractional scaling on and 200% on both monitors,
then go to the nvidia settings -> xserver display configuration ->
advanced... and set the following:

32"
ViewPortIn 5120x2880
ViewPortOut 3840x2160+0+0
Panning: 5120x2880

43"
ViewPortIn 5760x3240
ViewPortOut 3800x2137+20+11 (or just 3840x2160+0+0 if you don't need underscan)
Panning: 5760x3240

This gets the scaling as near as possible, but it resets after every
reboot even if you save it in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

[Bug 1805173] [NEW] GeographicLib cmake file in wrong place

2018-11-26 Thread Ian Vaughn
Public bug reported:

The geographiclib-dev installer puts the FindGeographicLib.cmake file in:
/usr/share/cmake/geographiclib/FindGeographicLib.cmake

The correct location is:
/usr/share/cmake-3.5/Modules

The first location is not in the cmake path, so it never gets found by
cmake and is more or less completely useless by default. The file
itself seems fine once I add it to the cmake path, so it looks like a
simple install script bug.

This bug was originally discovered with libgeographiclib-dev 1.45-2 in
xenial, but it appears to still be present in package 1.49 in bionic.

[Bug 915165] Re: Cannot specify save directory for some GTK+3 applications - Recent/recursive directories replace user selection.

2014-05-23 Thread Israel Vaughn
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1102042 ***

Not a duplicate of 1102042. If I select a folder under the dropdown
(even twice) it will save to the first folder that it defaulted to, it
is as if it isn't taking the new folder setting under the dropdown!

[Bug 1038373] Re: 8086:0887 Intel Centrino 2230 card doesn't connect, and has extremely high latency when connected

2012-10-08 Thread Israel Vaughn
Actually, it is still here. I noticed something different today,
perhaps the compat-wireless workaround was conflated.

Ping times are fine, when AC (mains) power is plugged in. When I'm on
battery is when the ping times go up to 500+ms.

I'm usually plugged in, so I perhaps thought that the compat-wireless
fixed it.

sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off

actually fixed it. Is this a regression?

[Bug 1038373] Re: 8086:0887 Intel Centrino 2230 card doesn't connect, and has extremely high latency when connected

2012-08-26 Thread Israel Vaughn
AP : Netgear WNDR3800, firmware version 1.0.0.38 (latest).

Connection type : 2.4Ghz 802.11n (I tryed changing to 802.11g and this
didn't fix it).

No other devices have the issue with the AP, including Android, Mac, and
this machine on Windows.

The distance to the AP is 3 feet, with no obstructions. Changing the
distance does not seem to affect the problem.

I don't know if the issue occurs with other APs. I'll be taking this
laptop to school soon, I'll update when I attempt to connect to another
AP.

I don't know if this is a regression, this laptop is a brand new
warranty replacement, so I haven't ever had this model of wireless card
before.

The compat-wireless did provide a provide a WORKAROUND or solution
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LinuxWireless#Compat-
wireless_in_Ubuntu!

[Bug 1038373] [NEW] Intel Centrino 2230 card doesn't connect, and has extremely high latency when connected

2012-08-17 Thread Israel Vaughn
Public bug reported:

Similar to bug :

Saw the following in the logs :

When I first wake the computer, or boot the computer, wireless attempts
to connect about 15-20 times before finally connecting.

Once connected, speed and latency vary randomly, but mostly on the
slow/high side respectively.

When I test my connection speed with a site like speedtest.net, I'll
usually get full speed for about 1/2 a sec , then it goes to zero for
awhile, then comes back on at full speed a second later or so.

With windows, connected to the same router, none of these problems
occur.

I'm using a fresh installation of 12.04.

[Bug 984552] Re: [8086:0085] iwlwifi intermittently losing connectivity

2012-08-13 Thread Israel Vaughn
I am seeing this on my HP Dv4t-5100 with a Centrino Wireless-N 2230
wireless card on 12.04 with all updates current.

Some strange things happen, first, it takes a long time for the wireless
to connect, then ping times to the router vary randomly from up to 1 sec
down to 4 ms or so.

The only thing about the wifi or intel in dmesg or the kern.log is the
following :

Aug 13 17:22:52 Galois kernel: [32696.796323] iwlwifi :02:00.0: restoring

[Bug 964301] [NEW] [USB-Audio - Logitech G35 Headset, playback] Not swapping between headphones and speakers

2012-03-24 Thread Viktor Vaughn
Public bug reported:

When removing/adding headphones to the usb port the sound does not
automatically revert to/back from the speaker output.

I need to go to the sound settings > output > Internal Audio Analogue
Stereo

When plugging headphones back in I need to repeat the process

This also seems to disable the link between my headphone volume control.
If I move the volume up or down after putting the headphones back in the
port it will move the slider in Banshee, but the volume will stay the
same coming through the headphones. To get it to reactivate, I need to
go back into sound settings > output > Logitech G35 Headset Analogue
Stereo > then move the output slider in this window. This then allows me
to use the volume control on my headphones.

If this is not a bug, i.e. you have chosen to control the sound output
by logging into the settings, then perhaps having the outputs in a
dropdown menu in the sound setting so they can be quickly chosen between
would be handy.

to this bug.

[Bug 509180] Re: ecryptfs sometimes seems to add trailing garbage to encrypted files

2011-12-10 Thread Israel Vaughn
Reference #162 for background. I converted to a plain ext4 home and am
getting fewer freezes, but still getting freezes. It is baffling! I'm
going to pull an Office Space on my laptop!

[Bug 509180] Re: ecryptfs sometimes seems to add trailing garbage to encrypted files

2011-12-06 Thread Israel Vaughn
I am seeing similar behavior to #159, except my lockups are so frequent
that I cannot even use my laptop anymore. I'm running 11.10 64-bit with
all the latest updates.

I see tons of

"Either the lower file is not in a valid eCryptfs format, or the key
could not be retrieved. Plaintext passthrough mode is not enabled;
returning -EIO"

messages in the log files (syslog and kern.log).

I noticed that this problem became much much worse after the most recent
update.

I have ~600,000 files in my home directory, I don't know if that is a
contributing factor.

Today my laptop froze, requiring reboot (could not even ssh into it)
about 15 times. The last time it froze the matlab code that I was
writing was completely corrupted (looked at it in a hex editor, totally
mangled) upon reboot.

I'm going to convert to a non-encrypted home and I'll report back
whether the freezes stop (if they don't then it must be something else).

[Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2011-05-25 Thread Israel Vaughn
@ #86

Just installed the 275.09 drivers on Ubuntu 10.04, still has the compiz
freezing issue.

What I did to get around it (because it is just a display issue) was hit
"Alt+F2" and then type (blindly) "metacity --replace" which gave me back
my desktop.

I can't downgrade because I write and compile CUDA code on this machine
for GTX 400 and 500 series and need all the machines to be synced on
CUDA SDK, driver, etc. (I have a 7300 GS as my display card, the other
cards are GPU computing cards).

Nvidia this sucks!

[Bug 571444] Re: Boot hangs and unable to continue when automount disk in fstab is not available (Off or Disconnected)

2010-05-22 Thread Israel Vaughn
This happened to me because for some reason 10.04 does not load the
wireless modules prior to attempting to connect to network shares that
are in fstab. The network (samba) shares are not able to be found and
then the boot just hangs. No shell, nothing, I can only reboot or use
the work around, thanks OP for the workaround!

This is an extremely serious bug for any non-power user, as fstab must
be edited to fix the initial problem, and it basically makes an upgraded
system unusable.

[Bug 536775] Re: post-update path changed during karmic upgrade makes the hook a stale link

2010-04-24 Thread Ron Vaughn
I hit this EXACT same bug tonight. And I just happened to have upgraded
to 9.10, and then was trying to get a new mysysgit (windows client) to
run. So I spent hours thinking it was windows, not that the symlink was
bad. By manually fixing the symlink as described, the gitosis.conf file
would properly update itself, and the issue went away.

2010-04-06 Thread vaughn
I just installed the Flash 10.1 RC on Lucid Lynx 64-bit beta. The bug is
still there on NBA League Pass Broadband. The flickering goes away if
you go to full screen mode, but the embedded window blinks like snow
storm (like once every two seconds). Not good. It's one thing when
you're just casually looking at YouTube, but it's quite aggravating when
you've subscribed to a paid site such as League Pass and can't watch
embedded video. This problem is not present with the same versions of
Firefox and Flash on Windows 7 or Mac Snow Leopard.

[Bug 264203] Re: Clicking in a text entry box selects text instead of moving the cursor.

2010-03-22 Thread vaughn
This happens at random intervals, with Firefox 3.6 in Lucid Lynx 64-bit
on my System 76 Pangolin laptop. I will be filling in a form on a web
page or in a search field such as Google and suddenly everything I type
will erase all of the cell's contents. At that point, the only way to
enter text again is to restart Firefox or compose the text in Gedit
(notepad) and copy and paste the contents into Firefox.

I noticed that earlier in bug's log, someone asked whether the original
filer of the bug was using a touchpad or a mouse. I'm using a touchpad
(though I don't have this problem in any other program but Firefox).

[Bug 394500] Re: [Karmic] softmodem-opened /dev/snd/pcm* cause "pulseaudio: card not found - Null Output / Dummy Output"

2010-03-18 Thread vaughn
This problem persists in Lucid Lynx with my System76 Pangolin Panp4n
laptop. There is some conflict between the package modemmanager and
pulseaudio that causes pulseaudio to lose the sound hardware. It
replaces it with "dummy" and will not produce sound unless I uninstall
modemmanager. As Lucid is supposed to be the bug killer release, this
one would be a nice one to dispose of. I'd like to be able to fax things
on occasion using my modem, and as it is, the modem is unuseable without
sacrificing sound.

[Bug 517571] Re: "Computer hang-up on coping or moving a folder/file"

2010-03-04 Thread Israel Vaughn
More testing...

It only kernel panicked when I copied a large directory from my internal
HDD to my internal HDD.

When I gksudo nautilus it appears to work. I also today added another
user (I should have done this before but didn't have time) and nautilus
appears to work for the other user so there is probably a problem in my
home directory (though I deleted all settings under .nautilus and it did
not fix the problem).

I can reproduce every time in my main account, (not the kernel panic,
but the hand and memory/cpu consumption) by copying more than 100 or so
files, even if the size is not that big.

I would probably return this to unconfirmed or invalid since it only
appears to occur with a specific user.

I'll post again if I find a workaround.

[Bug 517571] Re: "Computer hang-up on coping or moving a folder/file"

2010-03-03 Thread Israel Vaughn
I can confirm this bug.

On attempting to copy via nautilus (from/to USB drives or from/to
network shares) the following occurs :

1. What I believe is the "file operations" dialog box pops up, but it is
tiny and never displays anything

2. After 1-2 seconds nautilus hangs and grays out

3. One of my CPUs is maxed out

4. All available RAM is consumed

5. It never crashes just hangs

6. If a copy is attempted with in my SATA drive (i.e internal SATA HDD
to internal SATA HDD) my system locks up with a kernel panic (keyboard
lights blinking)

I have an MSI p965 Platinum MB, E6600 Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, fresh
install of 9.10.

One thing of note is that I did some partition management before the
fresh install, combining two partitions into one and fully deleting my
Windows partition. /dev/sda2 is my root, /dev/sda3 is swap and
/dev/sda4 is /home. root is ext4 and home is xfs.

I tried adding the "pci=routeirq" option to the grub2

I agree with Prosthetic Head (why does that previous fragment sound like
a spam message?). This should be ranked higher than medium importance.
If this were happening with the Windows 7 release, it'd be front page
news, and we'd all be pointing and and saying why people should switch
to Ubuntu. Fortunately, this is still in beta, so hopefully the
developers will get their teeth into this soon.

and it has yet to sync a single file on either of my computers. I've
tried completely removing and reinstalling to no avail. Anyone else
seeing this?

[Bug 229799] Re: [RV350 9600xt] System crashes 50% of time on boot on 'Rage Theatre setting standard 0x0000

2009-05-11 Thread Israel Vaughn
I am seeing this in Jaunty with various xorg configurations, but only
when I have my TV plugged in through S-Video out instead of a monitor,
or concurrent with the monitor. If it is not plugged in the theatre
module is not loaded. Whenever the theatre module is loaded it crashes
(from the xorg.0.log) at the "(II) RADEON(0): Rage Theatre setting
standard 0x" line.

I am trying the AGPMode settings now.

Please request info if you would like more.

This is with a Radeon 7200 with video in/out.

[Bug 194431] Re: trash applet refers to a different folder than the default one in ubuntu

2009-04-11 Thread vaughn
Hello Again Julien, et. al.,

The trash path in Nautilus is not broken and the Ubuntu Jaunty trash
panel applet works fine. Ubuntu or Gnome must have changed the path
again. This seems to affect both of AWN's trash applets. As mentioned
above though, the nautilus path to trash is show as trash:/// (could the
extra slash be the problem?).

[Bug 194431] Re: trash applet refers to a different folder than the default one in ubuntu

2009-04-03 Thread vaughn
Julien,

When I open the trash in nautilus from the sidebar, it works fine and
contains everything I've thrown away. I can also empty the trash from
nautilus without a problem. By the way, when I open the trash in
nautilus and press Ctrl-L, the address displayed is trash:/// (note the
extra trailing slash that you don't have in your path above).

Thanks,
Vaughn

I can verify that this applet is not working in Jaunty 32-bit or 64-bit.
No errors are thrown. Things that are deleted using the delete key do
not appear in the awn trash applet's trash folder.

[Bug 181559] Re: Sound doesn't work on Toshiba Tecra M8 with PCI ID 8086:284b and subsytem id 1179:ff50

2009-03-04 Thread vaughn
I stumbled across this bug while trying to get sound working on my Tecra
M3 (Intel ICH6, intel-8x0m sound).

I resolved this problem by following a thread on the system76
ubuntuforum that suggested enabling the external amplifier switch under
the volume control. I just double clicked the volume icon in the system
tray, chose the switches tab, and clicked the checkbox next to External
Amplifier under the Preferences dialogue.

Double click the volume icon (system tray). Click the switches tab and
enable External Amplifier.

[Bug 318560] [NEW] Linksys WMP54G bit-rate degrades over time

2009-01-18 Thread Israel Vaughn
Public bug reported:

I have installed a wireless WMP54G v4.1 adapter. Serial number is
MDI40H719803

The following is what happens and is repeatable :

If I boot up my wireless is fast, i.e. around 3-4Mbps. This is tested
on my internal network. Some time goes by and then my speed degrades to
400-700Kbps. It always does this after about 1-2 hours of being
connected. To fix it I reconnect using iwconfig with the following
exact commands :

iwconfig wlan0 essid "FitchResearch"
iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M

after which I again get the fast speeds. Again, after 1-2 hours the
speeds degrade to 400-700Kbps. This happens every single time. I have
switched between wireless channels with no change in behavior.

I have two other computers connected the the wireless network, a Mac and
an XP machine, and neither of them every have any degradation.

My version is 8.04.1

Here is the output from iwconfig :

[Bug 280785] [NEW] No Window Borders when Desktop Effects Enabled

2008-10-09 Thread vaughn
Public bug reported:

This affects Intrepid Ibex Beta. After this morning's update, Ubuntu no
longer draws window borders or allows me to move or resize windows when
Desktop Effects are enabled.

My graphics card is an Intel 915GM. This card has had no problems with
Compiz and has been running desktop effects since Gutsy.

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
