I needed a magnifying glass to get the info: HP Pavilion Notebook PC ProdID: V7R89LA#ABM Model 14-av005Ia 2) Update done using command: sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04 Same results, black screen. In fact, after the update, it never starts correctly again :S 3) I tried with the four options. Sorry Evren, my only issue is with this 'blank screen' error. HD speed tested with HDPARM and it looks fine. Also did not notice any problem with keyboard, or touchpad. WiFi installation was smooth. Current version of the kernel is 4.4.0-66-generic. Updating did not get things worse. Nor better in the case of the black screen bug. I read your posts on bug #1616830, and let's hope AMD and Canonical work towards a solution together. Public bug reported: Problem description: The laptop starts up fine but the screen is black; even though the screen is black I can hear the drum sound prompting me to log in.
