[Bug 290498] Re: linux-rt restricted to one CPU

2009-05-29 Thread vivichrist
Jaunty does not want to shutdown

this is a whole other bug in the kernel in ubuntu at the mo. one which I
don't get so

followed by the fact that my sound is gone.

I've been having problems with sound reseting and defaulting to 0 volume
and muted after boot with or without the new rt I compiled. is just
another ubuntu bug.

... wait for updates? I had problems with my ati HD4830 fglrx doesn't
compile with dkms (has different scripting or something) or if it does
gives corrupted X. so must use open source Radeon driver and metacity
but thats ok. some of the modules don't get compiled or found or are
very different form 2.6.28. I have a medium understanding of linux.

[Bug 290498] Re: linux-rt restricted to one CPU

2009-05-25 Thread vivichrist
so I would compile for Athlon64 to get optimisations at a guess?
compiling was way to easy compared to my past efforts. most should find
it a cinch given detailed instructions. I got some weird errors
installing the deb because I installed the kernel first then the headers
and then tried reinstalling the kernel but make-kpkg doesn't seem to
make packages capable of re-installation instead one must remove and
install again. without the headers I couldn't get dkms to compile nvidia
180 drivers (duh). as for ubuntustudio team not not doing this stuff.
maybe the kernel doesn't require so much patching now and they just
haven't picked up on that yet ...? then again, I don't know how patched
the kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/ is, but the one I tried from
kernel.org using the same procedure paniced at boot with a sync problem
(Turion cores go out of sync).

[Bug 290498] Re: linux-rt restricted to one CPU

2009-05-24 Thread vivichrist
I went to http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=M;O=D and
grabed the 2.6.29-4 source deb and applied the rt16 patch to it from
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/projects/rt/. then copied across
the /boot/config-2.6.28-12-generic to that kernel source root directory.
did make gconfig and opened that config changed to full pre-emtion and
timing to 1000 like Luke Macneil has done. make-kpkg clean then
CONCURRENCY_LEVEL=2 fakeroot make-kpkg --initrd --append-to-
version=-custom kernel_image kernel_headers installed the resulting
packages headers first. and hey presto. note. CONCURRENCY_LEVEL=2
because my puta has duel core and this required installation of certain
dev packages.

I can'y get nv, nvidia or nouveau to work after resume but there are
some new scripts to test suspend/resume. I nouveau is not capable of
suspend/resume? not sure.

[Bug 290498] Re: linux-rt restricted to one CPU

2008-11-08 Thread vivichrist
I tried used Alessio's PPA and Its more stable but I still only see one
cpu on my hp compaq v5001au laptop. anybody else got custom packages I
could try? I heard someone compiled a vanilla unpatched kernel with
preempt enabled or something and that worked. I don't have enough room
to compile kernels.

[Bug 290498] Re: linux-rt restricted to one CPU

2008-11-08 Thread vivichrist
I think there mite be a memory leak 'cause something takes up more and
more memory until it spills over into swap file and everything slows
down. this takes quite a while to happen but I use only the usual apps
and this doesn't happen with generic kernel. guess I should start a new
bug?

[Bug 279984] Re: compiz interferes with jackd realtime audio playback

2008-10-09 Thread vivichrist
this is using hardy updated from gutsy and feisty. I recently changed
the graphics card from a gforce 7900gs to radeon 1600 pro pci-express
and before that I upgraded to a MA790X-DS4 motherboard, phenom 9550 CPU
from DFI lanparty NF4-ultra Socket 939 CPU. in both cases, before and
after the change in graphics card, this bug happened. but before I
changed motherboard I had a different problem where jackd kept dyeing.
no proposed updates are not enabled since they made my system unstable
(surprise surprise). my laptop (hpcompaqv6001au) has Ibex ... haven't
tested that yet. the previous problem to this one I solved on my laptop
by updating to Ibex. and yes from nvidia to fglrx with no change in the
bug. I have the standard restricted drivers installed (no envy or
compiled).

after I upgraded the motherboard jackdardour worked as expected for
while ...can't remember which update it was. sorry. but it is instantly
reproducible. I'll have a look in the xorg.log.

[Bug 279551] Re: evince crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2008-10-07 Thread vivichrist
I think this must have been caused by something else cause I can't
recreate it. I've been getting some weird long program pauses (grey
outs). I'm not a programmer so I have no clue.

[Bug 279984] [NEW] compiz interferes with jackd realtime audio playback

2008-10-07 Thread vivichrist
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

this happens with both ATI and NVIDIA graphics cards and only started
happening just recently. when I'm recording or playing back multitrack
audio in ardour minimize, maximize, open, close of a window for instance
will cause xruns. my realtime session in jackd has priority of 70-80
so? my system has all the usually tweaks for realtime audio i.e the
linux-rt kernel, /etc/udev/40-permissions... and
/etc/security/limits.comf edits. this was fine what happened?

[Bug 231085] Re: jackd crashes using freebob and firewire devices

2008-09-02 Thread vivichrist
The key here is cannot complete execution of the processing graph this
has been happening to me since I upgraded to Hardy everything is fine
when using alsa but freebob is very unstable and seems to be dependant
on CPU processing amount, if you look at the forums this has been
happening to quite a few people with FP10's lately, and M-Audio
1010lt's. sometime the connection stays but mostly dies after some time
or quite immediately.

[Bug 264201] [NEW] jackd crashed using freebob cannot complete execution of processing graph ... zombified

2008-09-02 Thread vivichrist
Public bug reported:

using the jackd in hardy via my hp compaq v6000au laptop with mini
firewire port I get all this processing graph crap and then jack crashes
but firewire connection remains active and requires reset or a power
OFF/ON. I have a presonus firepod (FP10) which with previous versions of
jackd and freebob worked, maybe not perfectly, but this is a serious
step backwards. there are also reports on the ubuntu forums of this
happening to people with M-Audio cards also. could this be a cable
problem? or a problem with getting realtime priority? I have taken all
the necessary steps to ensure realtime priority.

2008-06-14 Thread vivichrist
I have this exact same problem and this happened because I installed
ubuntu without the nvidia sata raid on and later switched it on in the
bios. this rearranges the drives i.e my hda became hdc?

I think this actually had more to do with perhaps the last kernel
upgrade seem to have two copies of the cx88 modules one in the linux-
kernel-image and the other set in linux-ubuntu-modules, mythtv worked
once and then nout ... the frontend backend and database keep crashing

[Bug 122577] Re: system freeze on resume

2008-03-11 Thread vivichrist
yes have installed hardy and mine is up to date.
I get the odd freeze but from things like putting the lid down and raising the
lid to quickly.
quirks are no longer necessary and I don't require noapic .etc.
It was freezing maybe every 3rd time (i.e boot, suspend, resume, suspend,
resume, suspend, resume, freeze)
yet again no clues in the logs so? behavior seems to change with each
kernel update so maybe this will cure itself.

[Bug 86852] Re: Laptop does not wake up from S3 suspend mode

2008-01-10 Thread vivichrist
On gutsy this problem seems to be linked to the mouse cursor. I recently
changed my settings but ended up with the default X cursor (Artwiz in my
case) and this seems to have fixed the problem. for me any way.
