[Bug 1396379] Re: installer uses first EFI system partition found even when directed otherwise
I've encountered this bug today (2022-05-20) on Debian 11 and Ubuntu 22.04. Configuration: Samsung SSD 500 GB as /dev/sda - EFI System Partition - MSR - NTFS (C:) - Recovery Toshiba HDD 2 TB as /dev/sdb - 1,9 TB NTFS (D:) - 512 MB (/dev/sdb2 -> /boot/efi) - 2 GB swap (/dev/sdb3) - 64 GB ext4 (/dev/sdb4 -> /) It seems that even after selecting /dev/sdb2 as /boot/efi mount point to avoid tampering with the Windows boot loader's location, the installer mounts /dev/sda1 as the EFI partition. So the bug is still there and, for me, it happens also on Debian. This isn't a big problem for me, I've built the PC myself, I know how to use efibootmgr. What about a non-technical user? Is it really a GRUB bug? Or it's an error of an early step of the installer which happens to be used also by the Ubuntu's installer (should they have some common parts)? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1396379 Title: installer uses first EFI system partition found even when directed otherwise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-efi-amd64-signed/+bug/1396379/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1789454] Re: gsmartcontrol immediately crashes while running smartctl
[Impact] GSmartControl segfaults on start while scanning devices, making the app useless. According to the upstream author, it happens due to using some incomplete data while rendering the icons (the device scan triggers that process). The patch from the upstream commit fixes it, so it would be nice to add it to the stable release. [Test Plan] 1. Have Ubuntu MATE 20.04. 2. Add the official PPA for MATE 1.26 - ppa:ubuntu-mate-dev/fresh-mate. 3. Update the packages that are built from src:mate-desktop and src:mate-settings-daemon to 1.26. These are enough for reproducing. Usually these should be mate-desktop, mate-desktop-common, libmate-desktop-2-17, gir1.2-matedesktop-2.0, mate-settings-daemon, mate-settings-daemon-common. 4. Log out and log in back. 5. Start GSmartControl. [Where problems could occur] In theory, if the logic to protect against using incomplete data happens to be over-protective in some situation, there might be some missing icons or menu items in the UI. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1789454 Title: gsmartcontrol immediately crashes while running smartctl To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gsmartcontrol/+bug/1789454/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can confirm the same bug also for 5.4.0-45 and for 5.4.0-48 and also a workaround. In kernel 5.4.0-45 it is happening only one out of 3-4 times directly on boot. In all the other 2 kernels (5.4.0-47 and 5.4.0-48) it is happening on each cold boot. Workaround: after first cold boot from the login screen I restart the computer. Public bug reported: I have the following configuration: - Xubuntu 20.04 updated to kernel 5.4.0-47 - Lenovo Thinkpad T480 with Intel i5-7300U and Intel HD Graphics 620 - eGPU via Thunderbolt 3: HP Omen Accelelerator + Nvidia GFX1070 - 2 external monitors connected to the eGPU: 1 DisplayPort + 1 DVI Before the upgrade to kernel 5.4.0-47 I could use all 3 monitors (1 internal + 2 external). Since the upgrade to kernel 5.4.0-47 the internal monitor is not usable anymore. It is not displayed by xrandr --query and remains blank with a small background luminescence Expected to happen: to be able to use all 3 available monitors (2 external + 1 internal) What happens: only the external monitors (the one connected directly to eGPU) are available, the internal monitor remains black but with backlight. lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS Release:20.04 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: linux-image-5.4.0-47-generic 5.4.0-47.51 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-47.51-generic 5.4.55 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-47-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.8 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: vlad 1868 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: vlad 1868 F pulseaudio CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: XFCE Date: Thu Sep 17 09:18:19 2020 InstallationDate: Installed on 2020-08-29 (18 days ago) InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 20.04 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20200423) MachineType: LENOVO 20L6S8LU1W ProcFB: 0 i915drmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.4.0-47-generic root=UUID=3792990b-6d8f-4e09-80fa-4fa1a59be11f ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-5.4.0-47-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-5.4.0-47-generic N/A linux-firmware1.187.3 SourcePackage: linux UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 06/02/2020 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: N24ET59W (1.34 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 20L6S8LU1W dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: SDK0J40697 WIN dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: None dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrN24ET59W(1.34):bd06/02/2020:svnLENOVO:pn20L6S8LU1W:pvrThinkPadT480:rvnLENOVO:rn20L6S8LU1W:rvrSDK0J40697WIN:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNone: dmi.product.family: ThinkPad T480 dmi.product.name: 20L6S8LU1W dmi.product.sku: LENOVO_MT_20L6_BU_Think_FM_ThinkPad T480 dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T480 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug focal ** Attachment added: "1) cat /proc/version_signature > version.log + 2) sudo lspci -vnvn > lspci-vnvn.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1895935/+attachment/5411565/+files/logs.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1895935 Title: eGPU ssetup - internal laptop display not usable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1895935/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1576559] Re: Refused to switch profile to headset_head_unit: Not connected
Hi! I had the same problem with JBL TUNE500BT Headphones on Ubuntu 20.04. I did a kernel update to 5.8.9-050809-generic version using ubuntu- mainline-kernel.sh script [1]. I also uninstalled ofono and ofono- phonesim which I installed earlier when trying to fix this problem and reverted any changes I did to the default.pa file. It seems to be working now, but audio quality is awful when using HSP/HFP, which is related to another bug [2]. I don't know if it's a good solution, but maybe it will help someone. [Bug 1862081] Re: Gnome resizes framebuffer when playing fullscreen video over and over again (when using X11 fractional scaling)
Thank you for the fix! After having my mutter updated, I can finally watch the fullscreen videos while having the fractional scaling enabled However, there is one minor issue. Whenever I switch to the fullscreen mode, the scaling factor is changed from 150% to 200%, so all the widgets are unnecessarily large. [Bug 1867668] Re: Visual artifacts in Gnome Shell after upgrading to 20.04
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected third-party-packages ** Description changed: I've updated to Ubuntu 20.04 a couple of weeks ago, and there are some minor (but pretty annoying) issues with Gnome Shell every time I load the system. The background image has some green/violet/black visual artifacts, and the text elements in Gnome Shell incorrectly display some of the symbol. Changing the background image removes the artifacts until the next reboot (but if I select the previous one without rebooting, then I still see the same artifacts, so it's probably cached somewhere). Restarting the shell via Alt+F2 `r` usually removes the artifacts from the background image, but the text issues are still present. The issues are reprodicable with and without extensions, with 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 display scaling factors applied, and they are not user-specific (i.e. I was able to reproduce them after creating a new user from scratch) As far as I can say, only Gnome Shell is affected. [Bug 1867668] [NEW] Visual artifacts in Gnome Shell after upgrading to 20.04
Public bug reported: I've updated to Ubuntu 20.04 a couple of weeks ago, and there are some minor (but pretty annoying) issues with Gnome Shell every time I load the system.
