[Bug 265081] [NEW] top shows extremely high %CPU values

I suspect that you're seeing a periodic TGT refresh from Likewise; pam_krb5
doesn't provide infrastructure to refresh tickets automatically for you, but
 winbind/likewise do.

I figured as much. I knew Heimdal provided a similar feature, but I
had too little to do with recent versions of Winbind and Likewise in
general to have noticed this before. Nice though.

I haven't gotten krb5i working yet here either.
I see Jocelyn *is* able to use krb5i. I haven't been able to
downloaded the rebuilt packages from Intrepid Jocelyn provided. Maybe
I have time to try it today, else it will be after my vacation.

[Bug 236830] Re: cifs does not support kerberos authentication

2008-07-24 Thread wzzrd
Hi Steve,

I had downloaded the source tarball from Samba.org at home and I'm not
able to download the source deb from Intrepid at work, so I built Samba
3.2.0 from source and created a deb with checkinstall. Quick dirty.

After pulling in the correct -dev packages, I configured with:

./configure --enable-cups --with-ads --with-cifsmount --with-ldap
--enable-fam --with-cifsspnego --with-dnsupdate --with-automount --with-
winbind --with-krb5

I installed the new version of samba in /usr/local/samba and installed
the kernel from -proposed.

I followed your instructions above (the request-key.conf stuff) and I am
now able to mount a cifs share on my machine. So the kernel patch works,
that's for sure; at least for a Kerberos cache generated during Likewise
login (I use Likewise Open).

What does surprise me a bit is the fact that if I klist, I can see my
TGT and, directly after mount, the host ticket from the fileserver.
After a while though, the latter disappears, even though I still have
the cifs share mounted and accessible. Maybe that has something to do
with Likewise; I'm more used to using pam_krb5, which does not purge
tickets this soon.

Apart from that, I can only mount the cifs share with sec=krb, not with
sec=krb5i. During debugging this, I found that cifs.spnego segfaults
horribly when started on it's own. As said, mounting seems to work
though. I'll try downloading the Intrepid samba source deb at home
tonight, maybe you guys have applied some patches on it?

[Bug 198453] Re: Default ALSA device must use PulseAudio, otherwise ALSA applications may fail

2008-05-06 Thread wzzrd
@bod_: Alsa is a part of the kernel that provides for sound drivers and
direct access to sound hardware. Pulseaudio is a sound server. Two
completely different things.

I can confirm this bug (especially Flash plugin seems to be devoid of
sound when running Rhythmbox, for example). When using the
/etc/asound.conf workaround mentioned above, I can at least use
rhythmbox and have Gnome sound at the same time.

By itself, to me (but I am a layman in this subject), this seems like a
conflict between apps that use Pulse and apps that use Alsa directly.
The Alsa apps either get locked out by Pulse or lock Pulse out. If that
is so, this is not a bug, but simply the way things work and a design
fault on the side of the Ubuntu Hardy architects: it is possible to work
around this, at least partially. For afaik, Fedora has been doing
Pulseaudio for some time now, and I do not remember having trouble with
Pulseaudio there. Devs might want to check out the way Fedora has
tackled this problem. They must have a workaround for apps that want to
use Alsa directly too. Don't know about Skype though. Hardly use it.

not having an external drive mount on connection is a serious step
backwards from the way things were in 7.10.

I see Hardy still has ntfs-3g 1.2216, can anyone tell how far away the
update to 1.2412 linked to the internal fuse is?

[Bug 157803] Re: unable to burn a DVD due to input/output errors

2008-04-15 Thread wzzrd
I really needed to burn some stuff recently, so I installed Win2k on my box. I
tried burning with the DVD I used for my tests in Linux and got more or less
same error as above.
Retrying with a new DVD worked. I'm a bit out of DVD's atm, but the whole
problem *might* have something to do with really bad quality DVD's (is Verbatim
that bad?)

I'm a bit out of DL DVD's atm, so I can't really recreate the error
situation on Linux. Will do at the first possible situation.

2008-03-22 Thread wzzrd
I tried installing Hardy beta, then I tried messing with my BIOS (http
://linux-ata.org/faq.html#combined), I tried combined_mode kernel
parameters, but nothing works. I didn't try recompiling my kernel yet
though... I am reopening this bug, because upgrading to Hardy beta and
2.6.24 does not help.

Sorry for the late response btw.

[Bug 15424] Re: Error while burning DVD-RWs: Input/output error

2007-12-18 Thread wzzrd
Not sure whether it's a dupe either way, but bug 157803 (made against
k3b) seems related. I made links in comments from here to there and
back, hoping someone who knows more about this might find the
information in both bugs useful.

[Bug 157803] Re: i cant burn a dvd in gutsy

2007-12-05 Thread wzzrd
Hi,

i get the exact same error. I also get this in Fedora 8, btw, so it's not
something that got merged in by Ubuntu per se.
If you follow this link here:
http://www.linuxforen.de/forums/showthread.php?t=245380 you'll find someone
with similar errors using Mandriva (it's in German).

It might a problem with the kernel upstream: I don't remember my drive
being called /dev/sr0 before started using the newest kernels. I think
CD writers had similar, SCSI like names in the 2.4.x days, when we used
SCSI-emulation. Maybe there is a problem with SCSI-to-ATA?

[Bug 50412] Re: en_AU translating keyboard label|

2006-06-22 Thread wzzrd
I'm having this too, and I didn't even choose to use en_AU as a
language. Normally, I use en_US, but as I saw I had keyboard label|Shift
instead of just Shift in my menu's, I went searching for a cause. I
found this post, went to check my language settings, and they were set
at en_AU. Pretty weird, since I'm pretty sure I didn't put that there...
