[Bug 1505067] Re: [HP Spectre x360 - 13-4001nf] Audio broken, broadwell-U audio controller

2015-10-14 Thread yom
@Christopher
I have just tested the latest upstream kernel (4.3-rc5).
I reverted my GRUB config to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" and
rebooted two times (using the 4.3-rc5 kernel).
I was able to boot into the OS but the latest kernel does not fix the sound
issue.

[Bug 1441852] Re: [HP Spectre x360 - 13-4010ca] Audio broken, broadwell-U audio controller

2015-10-11 Thread yom
@Christopher
I just updated to the F25 version BIOS, reverted back to the initial GRUB
config (with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash") and booted two times:
no improvement, the bug is still here (no sound).

Reconfiguring GRUB to use the sound card in legacy (HDA) mode (with
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor
acpi_osi='!Windows 2013' acpi_osi='!Windows 2012'") still works.

Same as the others, the command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo
dmidecode -s bios-release-date
Returns: /dev/mem: Operation not permitted

Installing libsmbios and using the command: sudo getSystemId
Returns:
Libsmbios version:  2.2.28
Product Name: HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13
Vendor: Hewlett-Packard
BIOS Version:   F.25
System ID: Could not determine System ID.

[Bug 1505067] [NEW] [HP Spectre x360 - 13-4001nf] Audio broken, broadwell-U audio controller

2015-10-11 Thread yom
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu vivid (15.04), Audio driver on HP Spectre x360 doesn't work.

This bug has been reported for the outdated (F12) BIOS version:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1441852
 and it is also valid with the latest BIOS update (F25) and Ubuntu kernel
3.19.0-30.

As a workaround, GRUB can be reconfigured to use the sound card in legacy (HDA)
mode by:
1) Editing /etc/default/grub
2) replacing GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" by
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor
acpi_osi='!Windows 2013' acpi_osi='!Windows 2012'"
3) Rebooting TWO times

Yet, it would be nice to have the sound card working in i2c mode.

[Bug 1441852] Re: Audio broken on HP Spectre x360, broadwell-U audio controller

2015-06-24 Thread yom
Well, it seems some people have managed to get the sound working by editing the
grub config!
See the following message in the HP support forums:
