If I try to suspend from the menu, my screen goes blank but the laptop does not power down. I would like to add that this bug occurs during each Ubuntu release cycle. This is the third time running for me (at least), starting with 11.10. Thankfully it has been fixed relatively quickly each release. Hopefully the same happens with 12.10. It's happens to me too, the difference is. This is happening too on my new laptop.
