[Bug 1070391] Re: lxpanel Keyboard Layout Handler inhibits setxkbmap settings
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal) reached end-of-life on May 16, 2014. See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling us which new version it is in. ** Changed in: lxpanel (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1070391 Title: lxpanel Keyboard Layout Handler inhibits setxkbmap settings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxpanel/+bug/1070391/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1070391] Re: lxpanel Keyboard Layout Handler inhibits setxkbmap settings
Ah yes? But it doesn't work any better now... Here on Lubuntu Saucy, I cannot use *any* custom setxkbmap settings! The right part of the UI, Advanced setxkbmap options is inaccessible and cannot be dropped down at all! And as you say, the panel item will override everything set by setxkbmap. For instance, I tried a $ setxkbmap -option compose:caps (to give that ever-useless caps lock key a sensible job) But whilst this worked perfectly back then on Debian, here it fails entirely. And the GUI is borked. Oh well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1070391 Title: lxpanel Keyboard Layout Handler inhibits setxkbmap settings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxpanel/+bug/1070391/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1070391] Re: lxpanel Keyboard Layout Handler inhibits setxkbmap settings
Final Update: Nothing like just checking one last time with a clean install to your HDD; seems to work okay for me now; GB was set on first boot and is persistent across logouts/logins and reboots... Moral of the story: always check with a clean install to an HDD. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1070391 Title: lxpanel Keyboard Layout Handler inhibits setxkbmap settings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxpanel/+bug/1070391/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1070391] Re: lxpanel Keyboard Layout Handler inhibits setxkbmap settings
So the bad behaviour is consistent (from my limited testing on VirtualBox and KVM) in that Lubuntu initially boots and the keyboard layout indicator displays 'US' even though (in my case) the keyboard was functioning as 'GB'...if you logout and log back in, it changes to 'GB'...if you reboot, it reverts to 'US'...not very useful and entirely misleading. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1070391 Title: lxpanel Keyboard Layout Handler inhibits setxkbmap settings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxpanel/+bug/1070391/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1070391] Re: lxpanel Keyboard Layout Handler inhibits setxkbmap settings
Okay...I did 'setkmap=gb' as a kernel parameter and noticed the following: 1) the console displayed keys as if the kbd was gb 2) the keyboard layout indicator in lower right panel still displayed US...3) after changing the indicator to GB by 'setxkbmap gb' and rebooting, the indicator reverted (back) to US but the console showed it was acting as a gb keyboard as in '1)' above... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1070391 Title: lxpanel Keyboard Layout Handler inhibits setxkbmap settings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxpanel/+bug/1070391/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1070391] Re: lxpanel Keyboard Layout Handler inhibits setxkbmap settings
I discovered after all that the kernel parameter 'setkmap=gb' wasn't necessary as I found a 'set lang=en_GB' line in grub.cfg which was (I'm assuming) effecting my english-gb keyboard mapping...
