This is not a kernel bug. `lsusb` from usbutils package
(bionic/cosmic/disco) only read name strings from usb.ids [1] files.
Upstream has merged a PR [2] to fallback to kernel sysfs attributes, and
with that the names will be correctly shown.

Wow, lots of different devices have started shipping the same
fingerprint scanner since I first raised this issue.

Changed the title because this is an issue with the kernel and not a
specific machine as confirmed by vmz1net.
