I have now tried the 4.15.1 kernel a couple of days can say that the issue still remains, except that I do not get the pcie errors anymore. The good news is that I am pretty confident that this is a firmware issue and will try to upgrade the wifi firmware:

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.15
