This bug no longer happens in Kubuntu hardy heron. I have installed this version and sound works OK. I faced the same bug (when headphones are plugged in, laptop speakers are NOT turned off) but did not realize it was because of the suspend. Okay. But this bug wasn't in Feisty... So, I simply can't understand why is in Gutsy. This is annoying! By the way, is someone of the Ubuntu team reading these posts? Any solution? I have posted four different bugs in a month and no answer, nor solution given (and I think that a bug is very serious because I'm not able to execute any kde control panel app in administrator mode due to a python error). I apologize, but I still don't know which is the purpose of launchpad. No, I haven't tried this. I'll try next time. Now, I have worked with Gutsy Gibbon for a week and I have tested a lot the suspend/resume feature. At this moment, I can tell that graphics seem OK. I haven't experienced the blank screen again. Whenever I have resumed after a suspend (no matter after minutes or hours) the KDE desktop resumes well (no problem with Nvidia drivers after changed options in /etc/default/acpi-support and /etc/xorg.conf). With regard to sound I keep on experiencing problems. Last friday night I suspend laptop and when I resumed at saturday morning the sound couldn't be heared (but modules were loaded and everything seemed OK). I suspend laptop again and resumed at afternoon: sound couldn't be heared. Then, I suspend again. At night, I resumed laptop to play an xvid movie for my little daughter (I had forgotten the problem with sound). I plugged in the headphones and my daughter could perfectly listen to movie dialogues!!!. I got surprised because when I resumed laptop I think that I couldn't listed to KDE desktop sounds (but I can't remember if it was so). I stopped movie and check sounds and everything was OK. From then till now, sound works OK (I have suspended/resumed laptop three times with no problem) :-¿? I have read (googleing) of some problems with regard to silence the external speaker after a suspend if headphones were plugged in with a similar sound card... but when I suspend headphones are not plugged. I haven't tried the suspend-on-close-lid feature: the last time I tried was a disaster and I have to reboot laptop. I always suspend from kpowersave. Do you think that I have to try again? This is very annoying because everything worked fine with Feisty... More info: today's experience (till now :-) In kpowersave, I have configured the general settings to suspend to RAM when lid close button in button events. 1. This morning: I turned the laptop on an began to work. Then I had to go to another desk, so I closed the lid (like I used to in Feisty). Automatically laptop went into suspend mode as in Feisty. Everything OK. 2. When I arrived to the other desk, I opened the laptop, then it resumed and after almost 30 seconds of tension :-) the screen showed my KDE desktop OK... ¡but the sound didn't work! (even restarting artsd) Modules were loaded, no error message at all, but I couldn't listen to any sound. Well, I kept on working till the moment of returning at my desk. 3. Then, I closed the lid ... ¡and nothing happened! Laptop didn't go into suspend mode. Well, that was annoying, but I right clicked in the kpowersave icon and chose the suspend to RAM option. Then, laptop went into suspend mode and I closed the lid. 4. Now, I am at my desk. I have opened the lid and laptop has resumed. Everything is OK (not like yesterday, for instance): X is OK (KDE desktop OK), everything OK ... ¡¡¡and now sound works perfect!!! :-¿? I can listen to system sounds, music, ... even tried to play a xvid movie with mplayer and everything was OK.
