Hei guys I am new in ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty and I have just installed : GNOME 2.26.1 (Ubuntu 2009-05-06) Kernel .6.28-13-generic (#44-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 2 07:57:31 UTC 2009) in a AMD Athlon 64 , mother board Gigabyte (GA-K8N51GMF-9) with Nvidia 6100 now the crazy question.. Should I install the drivers from the producers pages for all these hardware?? or I can work as it is now?? It is true that I had to manually download the driver. It is still experimental and not released into the repositories yet. It works, and I have been waiting for a year and a half for a driver that works properly. So, I can take the manual install! Just to let you know, i installed the latest 185.18.04 drivers and all the 6100 problem are gone, i wrote a small guide on my site as to what to do http://forum.winmxworld.com/index.php/topic,8107.0.html I hope this will be useful to others, its a mash of many hours searching diffrent place. Is there a fix yet. I to get a black screen with a 2px line on top of the screen when using the 180 drivers with 1280x1024. I have used Ubuntu 7.04, 7.10, 8.04, and 8.10 without a problem, but Jaunty does not like GeForce 6100. Hi all, Installed 8.10 but as you read the NVidia will not work, due to new kernal ? OK upgrade to Ubuntu 9.04 and driver 40 then 51 last night (4.24.09) BUT still no good. Options, go back down to 8.04, wait till a fix comes from someone some day, switch to Red Hat, or Windows xp. Hi, I installing and uninstalling Ubuntu 9.04 but the problem remains the same : the NVIDIA Driver is not working on my machine since Ubuntu 8.10. In the previous versions, everything was fine. Today April 19th 2009, I installed Ubuntu 9.04 RC and the problem remains the same. After installing the NVIDIA Driver for my GeForce 6100, I reboot the machine. When GDM starts, I have a Black Screen with a two pixel line on the top of my LCD Screen. The only solution I have, is to return back to my Hardy 8.04. Is this problem related to Xorg or to the NVIDIA driver ? I can confirm that the problems with 173 and 177 have _not_ been fixed with 180.29 I tried 173 and 177 on 8.10 I tried 173, 177 and 180.29 on 9.04 I havent tried 180.29 on 8.10 though. But I'm more interested in running 9.04 at this stage. Have you tried the 180.29 drivers? We had a laptop at work which either crashed or plainly didnt work with any version of the nvidia driver shipped with Ubuntu 8.10 (64-bit desktop). But downloading the absolutely latest drivers did the trick! The drivers are here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html - Small warning: You might need to manually uninstall the drivers shipped with Ubuntu first. I recommend that you try this. I have nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 from Intrepid updates repository (180.11-0ubuntu1~intrepid1). The issue with one line initial screen still has place (after computer reboot/power on). For what it's worth, the v96 drivers that were recently added to the repositories seems to work, at least for me. While not the latest, it at least doesn't require rebooting the X server after each reboot of the system. Since the latest drivers still don't work, I guess this bug should remain open. Can others confirm that the older driver that was added to the repository seems to work? Yes, it's work for me too, but too slow to use compiz. And I also have some weird artefacts in bottom part of gnome-terminal window even without compiz. I have the same issue with nVidia 6100 and Intrepid nvidia-glx-177. X window starts but on black screen I can see only 2px line at the top. What is the shame Xorg's driver 'nv' also doesn't work correctly with 6100 and my LCD Benq FP72E, allowing only 800x600 resolution for 17 LCD (with native res 1280x1024). What I can do now is just to use 'vesa' driver for X (of course without any 2D/3D hardware acceleration).
