Hey Chase, I'd like to help out developing this driver. What kind of
sources would you recommend me to read?

 Title:
  Recent clickpad patch breaks two-finger-right-click

Status in “xserver-xorg-input-synaptics” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

 Bug description:
I'm using precise x64, latest xserver-xorg-input-synaptics upgrade (to
  version 1.5.99~git20120223-0ubuntu1) breaks two-finger click
  (actually, triple click as well).

Obs.: This recent patch enabled a enhanced click-and-drag using two
  fingers amongst other things.

What I expected to happen: click with multiple fingers on trackpad to
  register a different button

How to reproduce problem: just click while using a multitouch trackpad
(bcm5974 in my case). I've tested with xev

What happened instead: clicking with multiple fingers is sensed as a
  left-button click.

[Bug 941046] Re: Recent clickpad patch breaks two-finger-right-click

2012-03-05 Thread Tim Peeters
With clickpad support it works fine for me (on Lenovo U300s with
Synaptics trackpad). Using the buttons gives left-click, and I can
hold it and drag on the trackpad to select or move windows. Tapping with
two buttons is my right-click, so that works at the same time for me.

Without clickpad support its basically the same except that the button
(push, without releasing) is the same as a tap and I cannot hold the
button to drag a window or make a selection. For that I need to do fast
tap, tap-and-drag which is less convenient for me (but which still works
when I enable clickpad support). So in my case, disabling clickpad
support only removes some functionality.

I don't miss the right-button click on the clickpad, but I must say that
I used a macbook for a year before I got this laptop. If I use windows
on my U300s I get confused because I forget that there is a right-button
on my trackpad.

2012-03-05 Thread Pedro Nariyoshi
In my case, I have a MBP 8.1 (early 2011). The physical buttons are
absent and I never got along well with tap-to-click.

Should we file a new bug on this?

ClickPad support with proper click actions is possible, but requires
heuristics that will need development and tuning. Unfortunately, we have
run out of time for the Precise cycle :(. I hope to get things working
properly soon into the Q cycle.

[Bug 941046] Re: Recent clickpad patch breaks two-finger-right-click

2012-03-03 Thread Alex Murray
@Chase - any chance this may get fixed (and hence reenabled) for
clickpads which don't have a physical right button (such as all the ones
on Apple laptops?) As it is a shame to be so close to having good
support for such devices now only to have it removed. I agree that
maintaining two / three finger clicks for right / middle buttons is more
important than adding 2 finger drag support but it would be great to
eventually have both :)

[Bug 941046] Re: Recent clickpad patch breaks two-finger-right-click

2012-03-02 Thread Chase Douglas
I have decided to disable clickpad support for trackpads that do not
have a physical right button. This will re-enable click action support
for all devices that had click actions enabled by default previously.
Click actions is the X synaptics term for two-finger-right-click.
