I seem to have the same bug, only in a different setup, run xrdp as
server on 12.04 64bit, connect with the default windows 7 remote desktop
client. All the sympthoms are similar.

Title:
Affecting me too: I am running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Server on a 64bit
machine. Unity 3D does not seem to work with VNC, and this may be
affecting others too:

My configuration: I installed
Just to get the 32-bit machine out of the question,
I just tested and have the same problem if I vnc from one of the 64-bit
machines to the other 64-bit machines.
(no pop up message about compiz crashing and compiz still shows up as a
process running)
