Bugs,
After running sudo apt-get update, restarting my computer, and
connecting to the internet via wireless connection, the issue seems to
be resolved on my machine. When I reported this bug with apport, it
informed me that the issue was already reported here:
I am not seeing a crash -- I think. Right clicking on the icon brings up
some options, which are operational. It is only the simple left click
that is failing.

Ahh, in my case the crash happened after attempting an update using the
right-click options. The update proceeded for about 10 minutes, then
the crash occured with no changes to the number of updates available
after restarting.

Hi guys -
It looks like you experienced two different bugs.
Doug's report of the update-manager window not appearing, fits bug
989588. Like you say, there isn't a crash, the window just doesn't
show.
