[Bug 103311] Re: cardbus wlan adapter halts system 7.04 i386
I got the Edimax adapter replaced with another kind so I could not test it with the newer kernel. Current is a Gigabyte which works flawlessly with 2.6.28-13. [Bug 103311] Re: cardbus wlan adapter halts system 7.04 i386
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test: 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux- image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test. --or-- 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback. ** Tags added: cft-2.6.27 -- cardbus wlan adapter halts system 7.04 i386 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103311 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

There is currently a newer version of the kernel available than the one you originally reported your bug about. Could you please update your kernel and report back as to whether or not this is still an issue for you? [Bug 103311] Re: cardbus wlan adapter halts system 7.04 i386
did it, after x started I pressed ctrl+alt+1 to watch the boot log: running local boot scripts [ubuntu startup sound starts, then cuts in the middle] [few seconds passes] 68.36 BUG Soft lockup in cpu#0 [only switching off helps] Anyway, now I have installed 7.04, and hot-plugging does not halts the system. Hot-plugging only halted the live CD system. However, wlan does not work, the link led lights up instanly as I plug in the adapter, then I try to switch to the wlan network shown in the list using the network tool in the menu bar, then it will show connecting forever. There is only one wlan nearby, which is open. Another interesting fact: When in the network admin panel I disable roaming mode, then disable/enable wlan, about the 5th enabling will halt ubuntu again. -- cardbus wlan adapter halts system 7.04 i386 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103311 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am writing this from Ubuntu. :D Using the tips at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=392415highlight=feisty+ralink I could manage to get wlan working. [Bug 103311] Re: cardbus wlan adapter halts system 7.04 i386
Yes I tried booting up with the device plugged in, it also halted ubuntu. The screen showed the background of the top bar, the bottom bar and the middle area. All filled up with solid color. -- cardbus wlan adapter halts system 7.04 i386 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103311 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 103311] Re: cardbus wlan adapter halts system 7.04 i386
We should be able to get a more informative error message from your system if you boot with the device plugged in and remove the 'quiet' and 'splash' options from grub. You can read how to do this at: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GrubHowto . -- cardbus wlan adapter halts system 7.04 i386 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103311 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Does this only happen when you hotplug the device or does it also happen when you boot up with the device connected?
