Yes. [Bug 105394] Re: Upstart needs some key pressed to show Enter Passphrase on boot / cryptsetup problem
Well, I switched it to urandom and it does not wait for keystrokes. That's probably good enough for my swap partition. [Bug 105394] Re: Upstart needs some key pressed to show Enter Passphrase on boot / cryptsetup problem
Kjell Braden, your absolutly right, /dev/random is waiting for usage of the touchpad as it gathers some random information from it. i could use /dev/urandom but i think that /dev/urandom is not secure enough. [Bug 105394] Re: Upstart needs some key pressed to show Enter Passphrase on boot / cryptsetup problem
This could indeed be the problem. Try changing /dev/random to /dev/urandom in /etc/crypttab and check if that fixes the issue. Note that the random numbers from /dev/urandom are not as random as those from /dev/random and so it's not as secure. -- Upstart needs some key pressed to show Enter Passphrase on boot / cryptsetup problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/105394 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 105394] Re: Upstart needs some key pressed to show Enter Passphrase on boot / cryptsetup problem
Could this be the cause? I just noticed this comment... blockquoteIf your system seems to hang while booting, try pressing a few keys. Since we use /dev/random for the swap encryption key, the system may have run out of usable entropy while making the random swap encryption key. Pressing keys will give it some entropy to use./blockquote From https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EncryptedFilesystemHowto5 It seems about right. I can confirm this. It actually has only happened to me in Gutsy. Feisty works normally. Home partition is encrypted with LUKS. [Bug 105394] Re: Upstart needs some key pressed to show Enter Passphrase on boot / cryptsetup problem
I can confirm this bug. It behaves nearly the same way: I have encrypted swap und /home/user. When booting the message Starting early crypto disks is displayed and in most cases I have to press some keys to get the Enter Passphrase dialogue. If I don't do so I'll sometimes have to wait minutes or the dialogue just doesn't show up. This bug is really annoying as you think cryptsetup is completely broken when booting for the first time. Also running on feisty. Besides bressen a letter-key like deskribed before changing the consoles a bit helps for me, too. -- Upstart needs some key pressed to show Enter Passphrase on boot / cryptsetup problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/105394 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
