2009-03-23 Thread onyxrev
Well, I switched it to urandom and it does not wait for keystrokes.
That's probably good enough for my swap partition. It's just odd that
the same crypttab on Intrepid did not do this.

This bug became fixed in Intepid but has resurfaced in Jaunty. LUKS
password prompt now once again waits for sufficient keyboard input
before displaying.

2008-03-08 Thread loko
Kjell Braden,

your absolutly right, /dev/random is waiting for usage of the touchpad
as it gathers some random information from it. i could use /dev/urandom
but i think that /dev/urandom is not secure enough. So i hope there will
be another solution.

[Bug 105394] Re: Upstart needs some key pressed to show Enter Passphrase on boot / cryptsetup problem

2007-12-23 Thread Kjell Braden
This could indeed be the problem. Try changing /dev/random to /dev/urandom in
/etc/crypttab and check if that fixes the issue.
Note that the random numbers from /dev/urandom are not as random as those from
/dev/random and so it's not as secure.

[Bug 105394] Re: Upstart needs some key pressed to show Enter Passphrase on boot / cryptsetup problem

2007-12-22 Thread onyxrev
Could this be the cause? I just noticed this comment...

blockquoteIf your system seems to hang while booting, try pressing a
few keys. Since we use /dev/random for the swap encryption key, the
system may have run out of usable entropy while making the random swap
encryption key. Pressing keys will give it some entropy to
use./blockquote

From https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EncryptedFilesystemHowto5

It seems about right. For me it's several keypresses that are required.

adding LOUD=yes to /etc/default/cryptdisks

Does not seem to add any additional output during the boot/cryptdisks

2007-11-25 Thread onyxrev
I can confirm this. It actually has only happened to me in Gutsy.
Feisty works normally. Home partition is encrypted with LUKS. The
prompt won't appear until I hit a few letter keys... the timing seems
random. It can take up to 15 seconds longer.

The version in Gutsy was 2:1.0.5-2ubuntu2. I just reverted back to my

version is 2:1.0.4+svn26-1ubuntu2.

[Bug 105394] Re: Upstart needs some key pressed to show Enter Passphrase on boot / cryptsetup problem

2007-05-28 Thread Caspar Clemens Mierau
I can confirm this bug. It behaves nearly the same way:

I have encrypted swap und /home/user. When booting the message Starting
early crypto disks is displayed and in most cases I have to press some
keys to get the Enter Passphrase dialogue. If I don't do so I'll
sometimes have to wait minutes or the dialogue just doesn't show up.

This bug is really annoying as you think cryptsetup is completely broken
when booting for the first time.

Also running on feisty. Besides bressen a letter-key like deskribed
before changing the consoles a bit helps for me, too.
