The byte compiled python files surely were corrupted due to the freeze
and hard reboot.

During the upgrade the machine froze and it had to be manually rebooted.
After the reboot sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade was run
though to make sure the packages are upto date.
I tried to sudo apt-get install apport, apport-gtk, python-apport and
they all are the newest versions in the
