Steps to reproduce:
1. Attach the second monitor using TwinView
2. Open NVidia XServer Settings
3. Set the second monitor to 'disabled' state and press apply
4. The second monitor is disabled, but your main monitor resolution is set to
something like 500x500
Appeared after the latest update.
