The workaround mentioned in comment #3 may be worth repeating, i.e. open
your ~/.profile file for editing and add this line:
export LC_TIME=en_DK.UTF-8

This bug is still present today. I installed Ubuntu 20.10 in English and
I am located in Belgium. System configured automatically the formats as
“Belgien”, i.e. with German dates & times.
Installing French allows me to select the “Belgique” format which
displays the dates & times in French.

This bug won't be fixed before the 13.04 release, but there is a good
chance that a fix during next development cycle will make it to 13.04
through an SRU.
I have uploaded to my PPA a fresh version of indicator-datetime for
Raring including a fix. Please feel free to install it from

would replace the proposed changes to indicator-datetime. The glib patch is

To me the calendar is shown in the current language also in Raring.
If I remember it correctly, the calendar wasn't instantly shown in the
current language when I tested the fix (in Quantal). After a few
logouts/logins - possibly including language switches - it suddenly
started to work. Please
I have proposed some code changes to indicator-datetime, which I think
fix this bug. There is a 12.10 build including the proposed changes in
my PPA, so to test the fix you can download indicator-datetime from

Fabio,
Thanks for your effort to improve Ubuntu by reporting this issue!
I agree on your description, and that it's a bug, but I would not
